James you are awesome. I was fortunate enough to attend one of your workshops at the Southern California Ukulele festival several years ago. I took a pic of you with Victoria Vox. I am especially fond of somgsyou play with your Beautiful wife. You are so fun to watch together. Love ukulele jazz.
Why are the audience members so unimpressed? Some are painstakingly clapping. Huh? What's going on? That is an amazing performance. And get that one guy a lozenge for crying out loud!
It's a classroom setting I take it; there might have been some ambivalence about applauding what is essentially a lesson. Personally, I ask my students not to clap when I am teaching them something through demonstration. They do not clap for their meal in the cafeteria, or when the custodian cleans up their messes, or when they do well in a math lesson, etc. I want what I do to be viewed in the same way.
what a lovely performance. I feel like i just went to Paris haha i'm really happy I came across this on youtube >< sometimes the recommendations are good lol Thank you sir for your playing!
Thank you so much for keeping with traditional ukulele playing style while you went arrange this. Apart from the entire song, the ending was spot on with not only jazz, but Hawaiian music. You are blessed, brah. Mahalo for teaching not just ukulele jamming, but ukulele tradition. Much appreciated. - Makaio
***** The idea of God has been attributed for thousands of years. But as things become more explainable, the need for god disappears. For example, Newton, as brilliant as he was couldn't explain certain celestial mechanics, and so he attributed what he couldn't explain to the presence of a god. Yet, later the presence of other celestial bodies, and their effect on the "gravity collective" of our part of space eliminated "gods" role in that. And, that has happened an infinite amount of times. God is a great idea, but an idea created by man to give meaning to it all, and to explain what our minds lack the understanding of. And I say that with all due respect in your beliefs.
S Walton with all respect to you as well, I have a relationship with Jesus Christ. You and your words, or any unbelievers words will never take me away from Him. He is our Lord and Saviour. Point. Blank. Period. "The fool hath said in his heart there is no God." Psalm 14:1
loved that jazz shuffle at the end "reefer smokin" music" back alley bar..i.n New Orleans ...breaking on the porch with reefera and uKs...Louis Armstrong style...just got a Kala Tenor.
Michael Melnyk Umm... no it's not. Aside from the fact that the bass notes don't match what he's doing with his fingers on the lowest string on the ukulele, there's no way for ukulele strings to produce notes that low.
Michael Melnyk No, it's not. There's a bass player on this. Watch between 2:32 and 2:36. The bass doesn't match James' hand movements at all. And yeah, Luigi was right, it's impossible for something that small to produce bass tones that deep.
Movies from New York Elementary you might know my music teacher misses deer cuz you're friends with her and I saw you in a performance and Junior Park it was nice I love your songs❤️
Tuning seems to be 2 steps higher than normal (i.e. as if you had a capo on the 2nd fret); once you start from there, it's much easier to figure out the chords etc.
Anybody wanting tabs should check out this tune in his new book Duets for One......and while I'm here anybody know why his ukulele is tuned up a whole step?
I'm trying to write out note for note. In the seventies the musicians I've learned from were 30 years older, now they are 30 years younger than me, got to get used this.
As a young musician I'm interested... What's your preferred perspective? Seeing older folks who you looked up to or seeing younger artists doing different things and learning from them?
@Tebin believe it or not, James is actually playing the bass part with his toes. Hes been playing this way for many years. What an impressive talent this man is!
The maestro demonstrates his usual brilliance. Amazing James!
"you'll almost believe there are two people playing" *proceeds to have upright bass accompaniment*
Thanks for including the talk in the beginning. That was very informative. He's such a phenomenal player.
