I wouldn't have even started the job without doing the oil and filter change, if i was the company supplying the turbo i would want all documentation to prove it's had an oil and filter change done at the same time, that oil could and most likely was the reason the original turbo failed then the owner went and bought a second hand replacement and just swapped it out and never bothered to drop the oil, not dropping the oil and filter at the same time your doing a rurbo replacement is bad practice, ive told customers before that when i change the turbo i will be doing an oil and filter change at the same time, if you decline it being done at the same time you won't get any warranty from me you can deal straight with the company it has been purchased from simple, for the price of the oil and filter to what you have had to spend on the turbo is a no brainer but not for them to say well fit the turbo now and next month i will get a service done, sorry but damage will probably already been done in that month.
Great video guys love watching your content. I’m only a hobby mechanic myself, my mate was a Vauxhall master tech and replaced my turbo with me on my transporter t5. He done as you said primed the turbo with a syringe, As he said you get the most wear from initial start up due to oil starvation as it works it way round the system, But I see you mention that you will recommend a service to the customer for his van! I wouldn’t want that old ass oil going through my new investment 💯 would have done oil & filter change especially as you said hasn’t been done for a while and was thick.
For some reason i thought the location to this video was Arundel but the castle walls dont look right in comparrison to google earth. It was good to see John working rather than asleep under the vehicle. Hope you both have a great week ahead
Well it's always a pleasure to watch you guys!! Just the step by step guide of how you go about changing various parts and how the parts work etc. But your always good !! Thank You ❤ It 👍
Ive had 4 turbo diesel cars and not once had to replace or repair the turbo charger oil changes are super critical on a diesel especially a turbo diesel and i also let mine cool down after high revs running. 😅
Great vid as always. The exhaust side of the turbo is actually a turbine rather than an impeller though. Turbines are driven by a gas or fluid, impellers spin to pump a gas or fluid.

when fitting new turbo they will only warranty it if you have changed oil n filter and a new oil feed pipe .. the way you checked the oil feed and return pipes would only show a fault if the pipe was fully blocked not partially blocked

@@daveharrison3635 totally agree with you, he even mentioned that the oil was black and sticky yet he still left it that way it's not like it would have made the job any longer just drop the oil while removing the old turbo then when sticking new turbo on put sump plug back in and remove and replace filter while under van.
If the customer didn't want it nothing he could do not like he was going to do it for free 😂😂😂 and he did Say he was going to advise the customer to get an oli change

Turbski , injector leak. Had a focus with a injector leak. Backed up to the dpf. Took it to a main dealer who regenerationed it an blew the turbo then said it wasn't there fault.
That turbo on Ford, Citroën, Fiat vans are much harder to remove than this one I believe. The turbo on those are on the bolk head underneath. This Mercedes one is much easier luckily.
I never understand why people buy second hand turbos, if your trying to save money buy a new turbo core and fit that in the old turbo and the funny thing is the cores are normally cheaper than a second hand turbo

Nice to see mercedes still using reclaimed chinese steel rusty as always and bean counters skimpy on the panel sealants and primers yay i see these vans and think wow a 80s lancia. Thats why they are always dirty you wash em and you can see them rusting before your very eyes 😂

Oil & filter change needed ASAP on the Sprinter.
Booked 😁
Oh no not a service
Always fit a new or reconditioned turbo, a used one needs to be checked for play in the shaft before installing. Nice job guys. 😃

Finding the cause of the problems, the root. Is the best content
My 1st guess was turbo ….but was lack of servicing or pipe broke that caused the turbo to fail ?
Definitely lack of servicing
No sump off ? Tut tut tut
My Mates van had same issue as this got a new turbo fitted and the issue is fixed
Great job fellas.
Thank you!
Did you check the dpf differential pressures On the diagnostics?
If you unscrew the oil filler pipe from the rocker cover, the oil filler cap can be fitted straight to the rocker cover

I've never fitted a new turbo and run old oil through it I've always changed the oil before starting
Dirty oil probably killed the turbo to begin with....

Shout not run a new turbo on bad oil I’m surprised you did that
Service scheduled, not to worry as we will also be flushing it 😏
Looks like it may also be blowing around the rear most exhaust manifold studs.
@marvelous lara good work again as all ways second had is never good way to go with things like this.

@ ha haa yeah pretty much , I’m older so have all the old phrases for these problems lol
is it possible the owner did not prime the scrap yard turbo causing the issues ?
Could also be that- or just poor oil maintenance
Can someone recommend what college i can go to for level 2 and 3 motor mechanics.?
You didn’t change the oil ????

I remember my bi turbo vw crafter needed new turbos that cost me nearly 2k at vw but it effing flew afterwards 😅

Ivor Searle seems still too expensive. Do they do anything else apart from engines
I would refuse to fit a turbo without changing oil and filter one way to void warranty of turbo 30 years at Mercedes and still going 👍
The van will not be used until the oil and filter is done. Already booked in 😁
lara why are you so Marvelous
Didnt change the oil?
Scheduled already mate 😁🙏🏾
The reconditioned turbo must be loving that sludgy old ass oil....
It’s drinking it 😂 All jokes aside, the owner won’t be using it until it’s serviced, which is next month

Have you got another van that you might be thinking of selling/giving away? 😆

Why o why didn’t you change the oil? That oil isn’t lubricating the turbo properly and will wear out the turbo shaft in a jiffy!😢
