You could ask an 8 year old in Europe to name 3 African countries.
Yeah, my son is that age and knows like 30 African countries with its capital cities. And he even didn't have geography at school yet. It's more about that some people are just interested in the world and want to know for themselves.
I believe I at 8 years old would be hard pressed to name 3 African countries. But a few years later I started reading Willbur Smith's books about the "Courtney" family and their adventures in (mostly South) Africa. I've been curious/interested in the continent ever since.

I might name every single African country (I´m from Germany) just from personal interest as a radio amateur. Spoke to every country on the African continent on the radio and love it. What i can tell from my personal experience in sub saharan Africa is that people there are just amazing! That friendliness of the locals just blew my mind.. I wish it gets better there economically and health related. All the best to the continent and i hope to be back there at some point..

From my birthplace, South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zaire, Congo, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Ivory Coast, Niger, Nali, South Sudan, Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Liberia, Chad, The Gambia, Central African Republic, Mauritania, Burundi, Rwanda...apologies to the few countries I overlooked off the top if my head.

I’m an American (that is, a U.S. citizen), and I can point out every single African country on a map and name all the fucking capitals. The only geography that really fucks with me is those South Pacific countries.

I think I used to know most from school (Germany), then I forgot some or more like where exactly they are. But Corona gave me time, I watched alot videos about people not knowing sh*t and so decided to refresh the knowledge. :D Now I am pretty certain when it comes to most countries in the world. (Island States are harder though). I can recommend Seterra, great page/app. Fun to learn. Fun makes it easier. :)

@@Fransis_john my kids as teenagers told me as they got older they remembered what I said when they were in middle school and were always ready to correct anything/anyone that gave that impression. Unfortunately here in the USA it's too easy to get that impression. You hardly ever hear about separate African nations always just "Africa" which unfortunately can easily give this impression. Another thing was we had a map on the wall at home that gave a more accurate reflection of the size of Africa (and other areas of the world). On the traditional mercator maps you get the impression that the continent is much smaller than reality and the UK for example is much bigger! Which doesn't help.
This guys are way to clever. I take my hat out for them.
It's basic school curriculum here in Europe. The vast majority could easily name 5 or even 10 countries in Africa. I was shocked with the US version.

The video is fine, but I believe you could have came up with a wider variety of questions, like: have you ever been to Africa?, If yes, to which country? or Have you ever considered living in Africa, if yes, in which African country would you rather live? What do you know about Africa?? Does your school system talk about Africa? What do they say about the continent? Stuff like that man, you gotta be creative when doing this type of things, specially because you prepare the material before shooting.
Don't get me wrong, but when it comes to this type of stuff, it's all about being creative.
