@@ChrissaBug I'm your new biggest fan. Love your work, Your inspiring me to continue my work. I needed this since I'm trying to learn how to paint digitally.
Ok so your color scheme in the beginning of the video inspires me. It’s your hair color plus the orange hat then the purple in the background = instant color palette.
Yayyy!!! I prepared a sketch to color in while watching this tutorial 🤩 I haven’t found a good tutorial to go over this topic. Thank you so much for making this
For fantasy colours skins I usually try to think what colour their blood is, like for a blue skinned character I'd make their lips and blush sort of greenish rather than red (A good way to tell if you're not sure is moving the hue until the skin looks like a real human colour and check if the blush looks normal)
One thing to make note of when using reference is to be aware of the colour temperature and tint of the reference photo. In the portrait she used for the Black skin tone, I noticed the picture had a lot of blue colour temp with a green tint - but these things can easily be adjusted, so it might be a good idea to change the reference photo to match your art's lighting situation! :)
right? their tutorials and vids are super super underrated! they are one of my inspirations to create my own tutorials and art vids, just posted my first 3 and while i have no views and no subs i am excited to make them!
Ahhhh! Great tutorial! So, because UA-cam tends to attract terrible contents, here's a long ass comment of good stuff: Your video quality is good. You've clearly taken time and care into putting it together and it's truly appreciated. I found your break down of the color bands very helpful--it's been years since I've seriously done anything digital seriously (I was last using CS5 lol), so I'm new to CSP and super rusty, so I find this video and your art to be a great motivator for me to get back into it. Thank you for putting in so much effort for your fans and followers, and I hope this comment makes your day. ... AND DEMAND COMMENTERS BE POLITE.
Skin coloring has to be one of the more harder things to grasp, and clearly your time in the art exhibits/museums did not go to waste. thank you so much for your time and this tutorial, it helped me immensely with the heat mapping!
1:31 - 2:00 This simple break down of colors on the face just blew my mind. Like it's so obvious when you finally see it, how did I not figure this out sooner?? THANK YOU SO MUCH. 🙏
thank u so much for clarifying why and which shadows are going to be hard or soft,, i would often watch tutorials for facial shading but never get an explanation for where hard and soft shadows are and what determines them and my paintings would turn out really fuzzy or plainly unpleasant so this is extremely helpful!! :D
These came out beautiful! thanks for including a fantasy skin! Also, this was hands down the Best digital skin tutorial I've ever watched. you explained it in a way that made so much sense! I have struggled with my digital art being to airbrushed for so long and struggling to add shadows and highlights well so thank you so much!
this really helped me out, i had finished lineart and had the flats coloured in - thank you so much for the incredibly helpful and easy to follow guidelines!
I've always experimented with different ways to paint skin for years and every time I think I've settled, I find a new method to try!! Not that I didn't already do this, but I've never tried using hard light for skin. I'm going to have some fun with this!!
Your voice is comfy and pleasant to my ears i dont get annoyed by it even if i watch like over an hr, NO JUDGING ON OTHER ARTISTS ITS JUST MA OPINION OM THIS ARTIST IJUST DISCOVERED. anyway i followed her tips and im impressed by myself i literally suck at shading skin and her explanation made me a pro not totally but boi i improved
the watching makeup vids strategy is so true! i have been watching makeup vids before i was drawing, so that helped me with the "basics" of shading,, also thank you for this video chrissa!!❤❤
this is one of the best tutorials on skin shading on yt not gonna lie, its very in depth considering its only half an hour long as opposed to most tutorials. this really helped me and i hope it helps others as well. thank you so much for putting this video out here!
This is great! I hadn’t thought of the gradients in the face. This helps a LOT. One thing I got to thinking as you did the blue girl, though, is that the blood is something to consider too. So if the character needs to have blood of a different color, say, blue, or green, then their blush should reflect that
I love this! I wanted to learn to render skin, but most tutorials weren’t near my style, and realistic skin rendering with my style is not at all good, I love this! I subscribed
I was struggling with skin colors so much. Hands, arms, necks and ears were fine, but faces always looked kind of fake so I really needed this. Thank you
the fantasy skin tutorial was JUST what i needed omg - i also immediately sent a link to my bestie because this is SO incredibly helpful! thank you so much!
so as it turns out, following this as a tutorial works very well for texture painting a character in blender too. very helpful for making my skin shader look better, Thanks.
I can't tell you how helpful this was! You explained and demonstrated everything so well I was really able to pick up some helpful tips right after the first watch. Immediately motivated to get back into digital :)
i know this has already a year but it is the best tutorial i found, there are plenty good artist but the way you explain it is easy to follow and i finaly understand some uses for the layers, thank you very much :D

thank you so much, this is very helpful, you explain things well. i have been struggling with this for a while, the way people would say "just shade here" without explaining why!! thanks for explaining the heat map.
