  • Hey guys,
    Here is my review of the new Sirui ST-125 Carbon Fibre Tripod + K-10x Ballhead. Honestly, I believe this is the best tripod and ball head that Sirui has ever released. Size, function, weight and aesthetics tick all the boxes. Let me know what you think.

    Subscribed. I love this review! It was very helpful in making a purchase decision. I'm on the West Coast of British Columbia and I spend a lot of time in rainy forests and by the sea. I wanted something that will stand up to the elements, is light enough to pack for hikes and mountain biking, stable, and functional.
    I ordered the ST-125 tripod legs (5 section version) from Canada and the ST-10X from the UK (ST-10X is not available in North America). While I would have enjoyed the added stability of the ST-124 (four section tripod legs), I opted for the more compact retracted height of the ST-125 (420mm vs 480mm). It's a bit unfortunate how the sales markets are bifurcated.
    I also ordered the optional Sirui ST-Z Short Centre Column for macro work.
    If you are looking for the four section version (ST-124) and are in the US, the AM-124 is exactly the same tripod but rebadged for Amazon and often comes in less expensive. As far as I know there is no AM-125 version. I did write Sirui support and they confirmed that "AM-124 and ST-124 are the same tripods".
    As mentioned, it seems the ST-10X is only available in Europe and Australia. The nearest North American equivalent is the A-10R ball head. It's fairly similar to the ST-10X but slightly lighter at 360 grams (and often also comes in a kit with the ST-124). The controls are in a slightly different configuration but has most of the same functionality. Nevertheless I wanted the ST-10X and by piecing it together myself, the kit came in at almost the same price as ordering a combo kit locally (including import tax and duty it was $20 more).

      Hey thanks so much for taking the time to watch! I'm glad you enjoyed it and got something out of it. It's a shame the models are a little different across the world, and that availability is limited for some regions. Glad you could find one!

    Great review! I have the aluminum Manfrotto BeFree and it’s been trusty but there are a few things that it leaves to be desired. I think the Sirui ST-125 will solve. And if I’m being honest, the pure aesthetics of the Sirui are top notch! Thanks for all the info and insight.

      Hi mate, thanks for stopping by. Yes I agree the Sirui is much better built and looks so much nicer as well. The Befree is a very popular tripod, but is getting alittle old in the tooth now ;)

    Very well made review brother! All the details are well explained!
    I’m on the fence between ST-125 and W-2204. I use Sony A7iii and I need an allround tripod for everyday use for both photography and videography. Could you please suggest which one of the two would be more suitable for my needs? Thanks in advance!

      Hi mate! So sorry for late reply. This one slipped the cracks.
      I'd definitely get this over the w2204. Having both I can say the newer model is far better designed and suited for your camera. Not to mention nicer to carry everywhere!

    If I had to chose between the Sirui ST-124 + ST-10X and the Manfrotto BeeFree GT XPro I'd surely take the Manfrotto. The 90° column makes all the difference (IMHO). True I either have to buy Peak Design's Dual Plate or Manfrotto's version of RC2 and Arca Swiss compatible plate or I have to buy an Arca Swiss compatible head for the Manfrotto. However this feature of the Manfrotto is unbeatable (most competitors who offer a similar feature are off centric).
    I think of the two options ST-124 or ST-125 the 124 is to prefer because less segments are better (IMHO). 🤔

    Hello, did you have any problems going through airport security with this tripod in a backpack or carry on? I know the spikes are retractable but still attached to the legs. The tripod seems great but don’t want to run the risk of having to leave it with security (I never check in luggage). Thanks.

    • @etchd_
      @etchd_  Рік тому

      Hi Fernando, apologies for the late reply! No issues at all, really, its no different than a hiking pole and people take those everywhere :) I never transport it on carry-on so haven't had an issue. Anything in checked luggage like that will be fine, but in your case i can never speak in 100% confidence for how the TSA officers feel that day!

    thank you excellent review. Looking at this tripod for my Nikon D750, with 24-70 or 80-200 lenses. This tripod is marketed at mirrorless cameras. Would it it be best to go for another option. Wanting light carbon travel tripod, with small closed size.

    • @etchd_
      @etchd_  2 роки тому

      Hi mate, glad you like the review. I actually have a D750 as well with a 24-70 2.8 band it works just fine. I dont know about your 80-200mm lens, but it should be fine. They are rated at quite high weights anyways :)

  • @rvkphilately
    @rvkphilately 2 роки тому +1

    Do you honestly find those tiny spikes useful? They are so small i bet they will hardly make a difference if you shoot seascapes with strong waves constantly smashing against your tripod.

    • @etchd_
      @etchd_  2 роки тому

      Hi mate, haha you're probably right! To be honest I've not really ever used the spikes. I use a tripod less and less these days except for timelapse and occasional night shot that it doesn't really matter! I guess you can't have the perfect product

    Hi Matt.. thank you for the informative video. I know I'm a bit late on the boat, but I'm considering this tripod for my GFX camera. I mostly do landscape photography, so a lot of times near the beach. Do you think this tripod will do the job (considering the weight of a medium format)?

      @etchd_  Рік тому

      Hi mate, so sorry for the late reply! Glad you got something out of it!
      I would say you are fine with this unless there was significant swell hitting it and you were using a super heavy lens. The weight rating is quite high but nothing beats pure size in the end. I think generally you should be ok!

      Hi Helen! ha, this tripod is fantastic. Unfortunately, it seems in the states, you dont get to have the newer model heads. One of my other friends who lives over your way actually messaged me yesterday about the exact same issue. Which is a shame as the head is very unique and a main selling point. You might need to look at ordering from Asia?
