Hey Richard. Thanks for the update video. As always there is something new to see on your wonderful layout. I love the old Pullman cars, gorgeous work on those! Looking forward to your next effort. Cheers Andrew
Great update. Big fan of the engineers train and that work you put in to restore the damage is very impressive. The rail tour and your research around it really inspires me to put that amount of effort into my research. The green on that hall class looks great. I got the Hornby Pullman coaches myself only due to the period I’m modelling and I will admit the bachmann mk1’s look even better. Awesome running shots at the end to cap it off. All the best, Clint at Leila Central.
Excellent video Richard. Great to see the progress you have made. One suggestion for your ballast rake; you could do with Shark plough brake van for it. Pleased to see the Sealions in the rake as well. Well done for rescuing the damaged wagon kits too.
It all looks amazing...the attention to detail and your knowledge is unbelievable...I’m excited to see where else you can take this as you pretty much have perfection right there 👍🏼
What a fantastic layout I am new to modle railways and am in the process of building mine I look forwards to your videos as they provide me with the knowledge and confidence I need and I am really enjoying the hobby
If you got those sea lions on ebay, I'm glad to see they went to a great home as I was pondering their purchase but the repairs were a but beyond my capability. Great buy.
Constant enjoyment watching your videos. I doubt I will ever get even close to this level of brilliant but that's neither here nor there, the pleasure is still the same!
Of all the changes over the years, including the new (and brilliant) re-model, this was the most "shocking." Some cars and stuff not expecting to see. Fantastic stuff.
Hi Richard Great to see some new stock and a steam loco too, lovely coaches on the rail tour. I like the look of the new Bachmann 24/1, preorder I think. Cheers 👍
4920 worked on Paignton and Dartmouth Railway for years, then moved to South Devon railway where she has been stuck on an abandoned siding for years. I believe she may have recently been moved from the siding. Fingers crossed for a restoration.
Some great additions those sealion wagons might of even been in my watch list lol. Having a mainline steamer is something I've given thought to aswell, I do like the halls & castle classes very fitting for a Devon layout. Weathering is looking smart. Toning down always leaves a cracking end result I find. Great stuff I'll see you tomorrow at GETS.
I love your layout and your approach to your hobby, always enjoy your youtube offerings! I am just now starting a new layout which is to be my Winter project, and I am contemplating some youtube footage of the progress, inspired by what I have seen you posting!!
FYI. The Hall loco and a rake similar to yours is currently homed at the south Devon railway. Unfortunately not running and I believe awaiting restoration. It's a lovely loco thinking of getting one myself.
Superb. Chicken curry flavour with large chips and curry sauce was my go to. Love the running shots as ever, looks like Bachmann are holding top trumps again, some amazing things to come. You could say Pukka...... or not. 😁
Nice running session Richard, interesting as well, I like your steam loco, I find them interesting, especially with sound. Enjoy your weekend and take care. Regards Gary
Nice one Richard. I used to commute on the WR at this time and I think you have caught the time and aura of this era really very well. I think the network then had more interest too with the myriad of classes. OK today we have loads of liveries, but there is a limit to how many 66s I want to see - usually none. Noticed you had one of the Bullhead points, I'm really hoping that they bring out the medium versions early next year. With the limited space I have the large radius points in a siding will gobble up way too much space.
Hello Richard, The MetCam Pullmans coaches ex East Coast Mainline, in 1988 were operated by Pullman Rail based at the Severn Valley Railway. MetCam coaches used where Nos 335/347 to 353 (99335 to 99353 on TOPS) , The Habrian Bar Pullman Second, Two Mark 1 BCK coaches Nos 21249 & 21245 (numbered 355 & 356) TWO BR First Opens 3112 & 3108 and Mark 1 Sleeper Car 2127. In the early 1980's the MetCam coaches where operated by the Steam Locomotives Owners Association (SLOA|). Most of the MetCam coaches are now operated by West Coast Railways of Careforth or Vintage Trains of Tyseley. Hope this of help. Information comes from the 1988 edition of Platform 5 Coaching Stock book.
I had an idea for your reverse siding to make it more fitting. You could always ballast beyond the buffer beam and tie the ballast into one side or the other as if once upon a time the reverse siding was part of the main line. Occasionally railroads will repurpose trackage rather than rip them out completely.
Evening Richard. OMG a kettle on Everard Junction 😀 What a brilliant choice to enhance what is already a top class layout in construction 👍🏻 Been on your journey from day one just about and never not enjoyed a video update. Poor Charlie from Chadwick TMD has the same dilemma as you pulling to peace’s his old layout for a new one like you’ve done 🙈 Great update cheers Stevie 😎
I just couldn’t stop playing the scene from the canal over, and over, and over again - that was just so magical sir. 👍🏻. Cheers for now. ........... Graham
EverardJunction No problems Richard and yes, the reflections were just perfect and really added to that already fabulous scene. Cheers for now. ......... Graham
Lovely update Rich. Its coming along great! Not that I'd expect any different. For me the only issue I have with the Bachmann EPB, is that you can't change the headcode box to show White Blinds instead of Red. So it always looks odd heading backout of a terminus.
I have to compliment your ability to create realism. Comparing the visual effect of your track ballasting and grasses leaves other modellers way behind.
Whats this a GWR Green Kettle was that my influence on the visit bringing my King, looks good nice to have a rail tour running on the layout. Thanks for the shout out for the Bachmann visit, hope you enjoyed coming along. Andy
Hi richard, just to let you now that DUMBLETON HALL is waiting repair at SOUTH DEVON RAILWAY saw it this year, looks a bit rusty apart from that not to bad hope to see it bach on the track one day....Brian
Glad to see you finally get some steam on the layout 👍 I've got another reason to watch your videos now. Lucky my bank account is empty otherwise I'd have bought a set of those coaches and then have to work out what to do with them. They're not exactly suited to a layout "somewhere in South Lancashire" Cheers
Hi Richard Good to see the 2EPB. I've got 4 of these: 2 in BR blue (with the correct numbers!) and 2 in blue & grey. Love 'em. Couldn't afford the sound-enabled versions though as Bachmann prices are a little bit mad these days (I paid full price for 3 of them and slightly less for the 4th - you mentioning £60 makes me want to cry with envy lol). You might struggle with 3rd rail if you're running on code 75 andf using peco 3rd rail kit (the loco shoes will rub slightly). The answer appears to be to cut the off the "pole" (bit that goes down into the ballast) of the plastic holders (sorry for lack of correct terminology) that hold the rail up, don't use the washer-like spacers which the peco kit comes with and make the hole that the pole goes into larger. It works, but is a major pain in the backside. I tried other things like a rail from some N gauge track, but was still too high. If you find a different (better) way of doing this then please share :). Lastly: Great video - many thanks for taking the time to share your creation.
C&l finescale do a much nicer 3rd rail chair and equipment range imo, the peck stuff is rather overscale really. Including the protection boards. The scale four society also do a good representation of the pots, but you need to be a member to buy those iirc (some items they sell you don't need to be a member). However, shoebeam rubbing and collision can be a problem due to various manufacturers setting the shoe gear too low, or too wide etc with a lot of variable between. A pair of 2HAPs converted to 4CAP would be right for the era as the compartment stock by this point was being made peak only due to the incident of a woman being murdered in the 80s, a colour band was also applied to make it clearer where it was compartments. A 456 would look good though, bratchell do a kit that is ready painted and with a little extra work look nice.
@@bionicgeekgrrl Thanks for the C&l finescale suggestion. I'll look into it to see if I can lay hands on a kit. Got to be better than modding peco kits!
This must be the absolute epitome of modelling! I have no idea how you do it - your powers of observation and the ability to construct it all in model form are truly amazing. Look forward immensely to the next episode. And I do like the idea of introducing the third rail to the branch line. Presumably locates the layout somewhere to the east of Reading?
I love how so many views really stand-up to close scrutiny with the camera. When you're detailing an area, do you actually use the camera to see how a particular shot will look or do you just tend to shoot the best looking areas? The close coupling on the parcels rake is really effective too, makes a massive difference. That must be one of the most obvious alterations that distinguishes a model railway from a train set. You're lucky, not needing tight curves anywhere. Some great layouts end up with tighter curves in the hidden sections, preventing the use of close couplings. Is the Pukka Pies van your own livery, or an off-the-shelf product? Looking better every episode !! All the Best, Dougie.
Great video again as always Richard. Ive got a few old phitis i found in a box at my dads house of a few old Diesels if you would like them to get ideas for weathering trains.
Hi Richard. Are pleased with your coach lighting? I ordered same from Hattons but the individual lights are either dim, bright or off. I returned the same to Hattons but the replacements are similar with poor irregular lighting.
Hi Richard thanks for another fine video followed your videos from a long time please keep them coming please let me know what you use to remove your weathering I have a Bachman Royal signal loco which was heavenly weathered when I bought it on eBay and would like to remove some but not all kind regards Martin Coalbridge Junction
You are a brilliant modeller Richard. Can I question one thing? I am a bit of a narrow boat nut. I have never seen one with a concave curved bow. They all seem to have a convex curve, which given the battering they take would be much stronger.
Do you plan on getting an APT for your layout. I thought they were around during the time period of your layout. Also I think it would be an awesome addition just because of how neat of a train it is.
Would you be weathering the coaches on the branch line? I remember this rolling stock in real life on Southern Region Suburban Services, , and they did begin to look more weathered with dirty with age
Would love a basics series. That allows people like me to watch when doing things like wiring of points lights signals. How to cut track do can add a point or replace track. Maybe then go into things like trucking what it is how to lay(as how it should look to be realistic.) and so ok basic things like the peco booklets use to show but for modern era wirh video
Regarding the steam "kettle" loco and Pullmans being promotional vehicles, would they have been cleaned more often than other cars that were in service at the time, hence need lighter weathering applied?
Yes I'd like to know that too as I have gone down the bullhead route, but not actually had a chance to use them yet. Think about it, at £27 a pop plus a servo motor that turns into £50-60! I have about 9 on my layout but now need Peco to deliver on the medium points for the sidings/sheds.
What you’ve done for the intro is portrayed a train spotter’s / steam enthusiast’s worst nightmare in OO gauge! :D
UA-cam algorithm brought me here. I have watched exactly 0 model train videos, too. And I'm glad it did - this is fantastic!
Hey Richard. Thanks for the update video. As always there is something new to see on your wonderful layout. I love the old Pullman cars, gorgeous work on those! Looking forward to your next effort. Cheers Andrew

It just goes from strength to strength Richard. Sometimes I wonder if the real thing is a copy of the model 😄 Keep up the excellet work. Cheers, Bob
24 minutes 15 seconds well spent! Excellent video.

Lovely "kettle" Richard. WHOOOOOOOOSH!!!!
Hi Richard, great to see a heritage steam locomotive added to your layout. Cheers Greg
Is that intro a reference to that guy who tried to take a picture of The Flying Scotsman only have a class 91 photobomb it
I think it must be yes.
that video crushed my soul
I think its happened to most of us at some point. Couldn't resist replicating that moment in model form.
Is it just me or were at least 2 of the Mk1s derailed?
I have to compliment your ability to create realism. Comparing the visual effect of your track ballasting and grasses leaves other modellers way behind.

@@EverardJunction really liked the rake, nice combination and variation in running stock. Would be nice to see a low light running session
It’s really nice to meat you
