Notice something? This video contains all the commercials from the original 1981 2-hour Gilligan movie broadcast and is just over 17 minutes long. That shows just how much ad time has increased on tv. A modern 2 hour tv broadcast has around 40 minutes of commercials. Or, to use another example. A standard 1-hour episode of tv from the 60's or 70's had between 8-12 minutes of commercials (An episode of the original Star Trek, for example, is 50-52 minutes long without commercials), while a standard 1-hour episode today has between 18-22 minutes of commercials (an episode of The Walking Dead, for example, is between 38-42 minutes without commercials).
( 3:32 ) The Replay gum commercial with the all of the super free spirited 80s dancing/boogie-ing is fun for me because it has people in it from a couple of my favorite 80s musical flicks and TV shows! The long, dark haired gal (3:46) is Karen Kopins from the iconic (LOL) 1985 Dance/musical film "Fast Forward". That movie is so bad it's TOO good! Fun fact: She also co-starred in the classic 1985 comedy "Once Bitten" with a young Jim Carrey! Next (3:42 ) the curly haired girl Erica Gimpel played "Coco" in the early 80s TV show "Fame" (I LOVED her in that show --so pretty) Lastly, ( 3:49) the Black dude, Greg Brugge danced in the 1985 movie musical "A Chorus Line" as the dancer "Richie". I cannot say how much I loved that movie as a kid ---I've watched it a million times tbh. Mr. Brugge was so talented he had a great career as a choreographer (he did the "Bad"choreography for MJ) but sadly he passed away in the 90s.
I didn't realize news reporter Carole Simpson ever worked for NBC. She would leave the following year for ABC, where she was a long time anchor for their weekend news. She retired from ABC in 2006.
When I was little I thought “lime-on”was an actual fruit until I was in first grade and the teacher asked a question having to do with fruit and I said “lime-on” and was informed there was no such thing lol
Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island-was the first of a couple of tv movies where they tried to go with the concept of turning the island into a resort, for a possible "Love Boat" type series Sprite-kind of looked like a Coors commercial Kool-Aid Apple-that kind had a weird aftertaste Cool Whip/Jello-they actually served this dessert at those"cafeteria"-type restaurants The Texas Rangers-yet another pilot that was never picked up for series Lysol-with Gordon Jump and Vernee Watson Bitter Harvest-that's one way to get rid of tainted milk Positively Black-sounds like a Chappelle's Show skit lol
WNBC! Nice to see them from here. Lots of great stuff you don't see anymore on TV as far as commercials go. Plus an old governor ad. Looks like it didn't go well for the mayor of Paterson!
@@80sCommercialVault It still seems pricey for those shoes. I remember I had a pair of shoes that looked like those but were a knock-off brand. My mom certainly wouldn’t have paid that much for shoes. lol
When I die, I hope I get trapped in an endless loop of 80s commercials.
Oh, my...What an idea....
I liked SANKA coffee, even as a kid. It is so fun to return to the time of these ads... Thanks for the really good trip.
Commercials back then were a lot better
Replay Gum looked like the same packaging as Freshen Up Gum, the gum that had the juice in the middle. I used to love that stuff.
The Harlem Globetrotters visited Gilligan's Island... Well, I guess you do learn something everyday...
I loved the old timey newspaper tables at Wendy’s as a kid.
'80s TV keeps singing at me without stop and it's kind of freaking me out. Can you imagine if almost all ads were still songs?

About the first five minutes of Vol. 595 were also from the Gilligan's Island movie.
Erica Gimpel who played Coco in the Fame TV series in the Replay commercial.

We miss you Dave!
Didn't realize it was Scatman Crothers who did Jazz's voice in Transformers: the Movie. Now there is no doubt!
He was also the voice of Hong Kong Phooey and actually voiced one of the Harlem Globetrotters on the Hanna-Barbera cartoon series.
Memories,!
Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island-was the first of a couple of tv movies where they tried to go with the concept of turning the island into a resort, for a possible "Love Boat" type series
Sprite-kind of looked like a Coors commercial
Kool-Aid Apple-that kind had a weird aftertaste
Cool Whip/Jello-they actually served this dessert at those"cafeteria"-type restaurants
The Texas Rangers-yet another pilot that was never picked up for series
Lysol-with Gordon Jump and Vernee Watson
Bitter Harvest-that's one way to get rid of tainted milk
Positively Black-sounds like a Chappelle's Show skit lol
The Lysol commercial also featured Beverly Archer, who played Iola on Mama's Family.
Long Live the 50s 60s 70s 80s
Commercials were so cheerful back then.
Now we get bombarded with depressing commercials for psoriasis pills or irritable bowel syndrome 😒
Yep. The quality of commercials took a nosedive in 1997, when it became legal to advertise prescription pharmaceuticals on TV.
Teal Chastain ain’t that a damn shame.
That's Will's mom on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air at 10:50.

Canada Dry, Star Treks Michael Dorn..
Yeah, saw that! My mom is a trekkie so he looked familiar.
$20 for shoes in 1981 is crazy expensive!!!
That's less than $60 today when adjusted for inflation.

0:55 - I think this whole 27 second animated intro cost more than the robot costumes seen at 1:43...
I miss Dave Thomas.
14:37 - ain’t NO reason!!
The Ivory girls eyebrows kinda creeped me out...
Apple flavored Kool-Aid? Was apple juice not cool back then? Lol
LMAO
It was cheap. Period.
08:51 - holy crap! Is that lousy boyfriend none other than Danny Wells?? - Bartender from ‘The Jeffersons’
I turned 6y/o on this day!
must have all been non west coast regional commercials. never saw any of these,
