  • These commercials aired on CBS on May 8th, 1987
    1. Carl's Jr. (With Founder Carl Karcher at the end)
    2. Allerest
    3. Lens Crafters
    4. McDonald's
    5. Gorton's Microwave Crunchy
    6. Skipper's
    7. Greensweep
    8. ZZZZ Best Carpet Cleaning (Why do you need FOUR Z's?)
    9. Promo for "Dallas" and "Falcon Crest"
    10. "Jeopardy!" Promotional Considerations
    11. Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs (With Jodie Sweetin)
    12. Kraft Real Mayonnaise
    13. "Jeopardy!" Commercial Bumper
    14. 1987 Toyota Celica (I love the Phil Collins knockoff/"Miami Vice" style cinematography)
    15. Arco PayPoint Sweepstakes
    16. "Jeopardy!" Promotional Considerations/End Credits
    17. KXTV News 10 Promo
    18. Promo for "Hot Pursuit" (Hmm, I've never seen this. The logo looks like it belongs to a radical racing game for the NES)
    19. Hunt's Snackpack
    20. CBS Special Presentation Bumper
    21. "Garfield Goes Hollywood" Commercial Bumper (Brought to you by McDonald's. I'm sorry about the picture of Ronald McDonald here and the inevitable nightmares it will cause)
    22. McDonald's
    23. Mighty Dog
    24. Friskies (11:31 Cats and Dogs, living together...MASS HYSTERIA!)
    25. McDonald's
    26. Promo for "Peewee's Playhouse"
    27. KXTV Station ID
    28. Be Smart! Don't Start! PSA (With The Jets)
    29. Friskies (It's like they were advertising directly to pets in the hopes they'd all be watching the Garfield special)
    30. "Garfield Goes Hollywood" Commercial Bumper (Brought to you by Friskies)
    31. "Garfield Goes Hollywood" End Credits
    32. Fancy Feast
    33. "Garfield Goes Hollywood" Commercial Bumper (I think this might have been played in error? I've never seen a bumper like this played AFTER the show was over)
    34. CBS Station ID
    35. KXTV News 10 Promo
    36. Kentucky Fried Chicken (With Foghorn Leghorn)
    37. Star Tours At Disneyland (Amazing! I actually went on this ride before I saw "Star Wars". Like my comments about Captain EO from the last volume, I wish Disney/Lucasfilm would release the original ride film on Blu Ray or something since it's no longer in the parks. Also, nerd side commentary for a second...the two TIE fighters seen at 15:10 use the Darth Vader's Advanced TIE fighter model from the original movie, which was never seen again after that. A very strange choice on ILM's part)

"It's like they were advertising directly to pets in the hopes they'd all be watching the Garfield special"
This reminds me of the gag in Scrooged with Bill Murray, where the network boss wants to put door mice in the TV production of A Christmas Carol in order to attract cats who may be in the room when people are watching.

yusakug well maybe it’s not that out there- I would imagine a good part of the special’s demographic would be cat owners?

One of my favorite parts of that movie. Of course crazy Robert Mitchum doesn't realize that the dogs and cats watching TV don't actually buy anything.

I'm sort of amazed that Carl's Jr has used the table numbers all this time.
Oh Skipper's...I really miss that place! It was everywhere here in Oregon, then suddenly it's nowhere.
That McDonald's "Great Year" commercial...wow. Reminds me of the "First Day" commercial!
I'm reading the description for "Garfield Goes Hollywood," and I can't seem to recall it. I think it's because we watched a lot of independent TV stations at this point.
I didn't get to ride Star Tours until 1993. Well, I was jealous of all the people that did before me!

The champion on this episode of Jeopardy! would have returned on May 25th as the first ever Seniors tournament for J! ran from 5/11-5/22/1987. J! archive has the 5/25/1987 game in its archive, and TIm Casey was the champ on this 5/8/1987 episode

I had these! I had these commercials, but stupid me just HAD to tape over them once upon a time ago. However, I didn't have the KFC or Star Tours commercials. I don't remember what they were in my market.

A George Lucas and Disney crossover all the way back in 1987? Weird how history repeats it's self

Doesn't beat the most prophetic moment in history - An episode of The Muppet Show where they had the cast of Star Wars guest starring, and the episode ending with Mark Hamil and the Muppets singing "When You Wish Upon a Star". Considering that both Star Wars and Muppets would be owned by Disney in the future, it was like the writers of the show somehow knew.

I'm enjoying looking at these old commercials, while I'm on vacation from work, looking back at my life when it's so simple. I'm on a 80s commercial vault marathon. One question: Is that John Moschitta Jr. (a.k.a. Blurr from the Transformers) talking on the Hot Pursuit commercial,?

  • @darktetsuya
    @darktetsuya 6 років тому +1

sounds like the announcer for 'hot pursuit' was trying to do his best john moshita jr. with the fast talking (or he was just talking normally and they sped it up in post) that does kinda seem like a logo you might see on a retro remake-style racing game if it were released today, yknow with uber 80s-inspired visuals and a chill synthwave soundtrack?
also betting ZZZZ best carpeting was 'gaming the system' in the yellow/white pages being the last listing if you ever looked at the end!

00:01 - I remember crime scenes would use those number tents to mark shell casings, etc, and lmao when I was hanging out by one with a body under a sheet that had been shot up (I found the body and had to stick around to talk to a detective)and this cholo was walking by and was like ‘daaaamn... that fool ordered a grip of Carl’s Jr.!”
    Good times

Re: Star Tours, they already updated the ride in 2011 and have subsequently added planets from TFA and TLJ. Star Tours appears to be staying in Tomorrowland, even after the Star Wars Land opens.
