Presidential Address, April 8 Fire at Montpelier

  • On the evening of Monday, April 8, 2024, a fire emergency occurred at the Archaeology Lab at James Madison’s Montpelier in Orange County, VA. Montpelier is the lifelong home of James Madison, Father of the Constitution, Architect of the Bill of Rights, and the fourth President of the United States.
    Five fire departments and 30 firefighters from across Orange County, including Orange, Gordonsville, Barboursville, Rapidan, and Lake of the Woods, responded, with at least three firefighters sustaining injuries.
