I’m so glad my parents didn’t have the OPTION to terminate ME before I was born! I didn’t have a normal leg. It was missing bones and a foot. But, I managed to grow up with an artificial leg. A new one every year. I’m now 67 and have had an amazing life! A wonderful marriage, children and grandchildren ❤

I have a nephew who is Down's Syndrome. He just started pre-school. His parents were given the option of abortion, only because he had Downs and some bowel issues. They told the doctors that was not an option. He is Heaven's gift to our family. He is adorable and learning and just so cute and funny. Our life is better because he is in it.

I have a down syndrome daughter .. she is now 41yrs old .. she has the congenital heart condition... the doctor's said she was palliative when she was 5 ... I've lost count of the times they have told me she would be dead within weeks... she goes out every Saturday night to the local bar to watch the band ... she dances the whole evening and normally ends up singing at least one song with the artist... she's an absolute character... most people who meet her love her .. her 4 siblings love her to bits, and so do her 7 nieces and nephews ... she will leave a great hole in all our lives when her heart eventually gives up xx

Forgive me, this is my third comment.....this is a topic I have strong convictions about. I had three children, zero ultrasounds. Ultrasounds are themselves unhealthy for babies as it raises their body temperature as one example, and should be reserved for when there are concerns. Pregnancy and childbirth are not illnesses or diseases which require constant intervention. I've known many situations where mothers are told their children have all sorts of health issues, the mother stresses the entire pregnancy rather than enjoying it. Then the baby is born perfectly healthy. I wish everyone would do a little more research on ALL medical procedures, including screenings such as ultrasounds. 🙏

I had IVF and am blessed with twins. It is an emotional roller coaster I don’t wish anyone to go through. I was lucky God made the choice and I didn’t have to freeze any. I would do it over again but I had a wonderful doctor that we trusted. I had multiple medical issues causing infertility. I am blessed and will stand up any day for my decision. But you need to research and with your doctor make the best decision for your family. I always say to my kids until you have walked in their shoes you will never understand it fully. That is any topic or situations.

Wow! Deep subject and thanks for starting the conversation. As the father of four daughters, three (triplets) conceived through IVF this is so tough. We initially had two embryos that were implanted. None took. Our second round resulted in three embryos. We implanted all three and all three took. We never had to make a decision about what to do with any "leftover' embryos thankfully. BUT... I do very distinctly remember a point where the clinic came to us and explained the risk of multiples, especially triplets and more. They told us that now was the time for "selective reduction". It took us a small fraction of a second to say 'no way". I can't imagine which one of my girls would not be here right now. Brings a tear to my eye. Love your videos, thanks again for not being afraid to have the tough conversations.

These are the reasons my hubby and I did NOT do IVF. When living in Quebec, they offered it for FREE. While I had 4 sons, my second hubby never had his own biological child and we lost 10 babies. We had a friend who offered to donate her eggs, but then I learned they fertilized more than they would implant. A person who believes that life begins at conception, I could not give a child away, allow to die or abandon! So we never got the free IVF! Hubby and I are now 56 (me) and 49 are trying to adopt though the Alberta gov.

My husband’s parents left him at his grandparents (who had a farm) at the age of 6 weeks. Even thought his grandparents were wonderful, caring people, growing up as a child was hard for him. He did not know where he truly belonged. His parents refused to allow his grandparents to adopt him, yet they did not want him. Other children’s parents came for parent/teacher conference, but he had none. He recalls, one time his parents came and took him to their home to stay for 2 weeks, then returned him back to his grandparents. His Aunts and Uncles visited the farm with their children (his cousins). He felt out of place and would leave the house with his dog and go fishing by himself at the creek. Once a year, his parents visited with his younger sister. He asked his grandfather why this parents did not want him. That created much sadness throughout his whole life. His grandparents both passed away when he was in his early 20’s. In his case, he wished his parents had let his grandparents adopt him. Media tries to paint a pretty picture about abortion or adoption; however, I know for a fact, a mother who gives away a baby or has an abortion, will have mental health issues in later life.

Our daughter in law had PCOS and was not able to get pregnant. They decided to proceed with IVF which was very expensive and painful for her. They had 11 embryos and the first time had 3 implanted that resulted in our beautiful twin granddaughter and her twin brother. In two years they had 3 more implanted which resulted in another set of twins which my daughter in law lost one at 2 months and the other at 3. This did not deter them from having another 3 implanted. The results of that was their third child our grandson who is now 11. They were left with 2 which they kept frozen but made the decision of what to do which they never told anyone. It was a moral dilemma for them and they were criticized . I have never asked but we are blessed with these three to join our other 4 grandchildren.

I don’t know if this is helpful, but someone once said to me, “Live your life in such a way that when people hear negative things/lies about you, they will automatically and immediately assume that it is not true.” I think that’s how we all feel about you out here. I’m sorry for the few who have deflated your joy. Stay true to your calling and serving these children. Glance at the naysayers and gaze at the noble purpose to which you have been called … making a difference for these families who are so grateful for you. Stay the course. We are cheering you on. 💕

Melissa and Jeremy, just so you know the can and do grow human skin in laboratories for burn victims and VA recipients. They have for years. My grandson was in a house fire and burnt over 97% of his body. Once we got him to shriners hospital in Galveston TX, his Dr's told me that with a small pencil eraser sized amount of skin they could grow a piece of skin that would cover a football field in 30 days. It's amazing what the medical profession can do. And this happened in 2004.

I know three families who were told that their child had Downs syndrome but had a healthy child. My step daughter even had the amniocentesis done and it also came back positive. The doctor's office staff tried to convince her to have an abortion because she was only 21 and could have more children. She refused. Her son is now attending Duquesne University studying law. One of the other ladies also had amnio done and it came back positive. He just graduated from a Catholic High School and is on his way to college.
Both had very prominent foreheads, eye spacing and other features that fell on the downs syndrome scale. How many children were aborted who were "normal".

You really need to watch the film The Island. The premise is human beings are grown to either provide spare parts for their ‘donor’ or to replace them if the ‘donor’ dies. There is also a very underrated film starring Rock Hudson called Seconds. Where a man in his sixty’s receives the ultimate in spare part surgery/cosmetic enhancement and becomes the man played by Rock Hudson. It is one of only about 3 films that gives me nightmares. (None of them are horror films). In this instance it is his sudden screams of realisation at the end as to where the spare parts come from.

I know someone who was a surrogate. Some parents make you sign something that if it's down syndrome, you agree to have it aborted. She refused to surrogate for anyone who chose that path and went with parents who said they'd never abort. It's also hard to get insurance for the pregnancy and birth. One of the insur companies went out of the business and the hospital went after the surrogate for the cost.

I considered IVF as a single women. It became clear to me that I was unlikely to have the option of marriage but I wanted to have children. In the end I decided against it because I felt strongly that a father was so important that I did not want my child to miss that experience, support, guidance and love. It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. I understand that there are a lot of other issues but I can tell you this...I appreciate that I was allowed to make my own mind up. I would not have wanted the government to weigh in on my choice. For those of you who have been blessed with a traditional situation, please have a little compassion for those of us who have not. It is so easy to judge others without any understanding.

    • @wendytravis6427

But the government and citizens have a duty to weigh in on murder and harming innocent babies. That’s what decent folks do. Indefinitely freezing an embryo is horrific. Destroying embryos is horrific. It’s not ok to discard human life just because it’s inconvenient. There is something very nefarious about creating a human life and then purposely killing it. That is twisted. There is nothing more compassionate than standing up for the innocent and voiceless victims.

    • @shanahiggins4413

I can appreciate your views. I count life as precious also. All things in life can be improved upon but taking personal rights away from individuals doesn't even line up with God's design. Since the beginning God gave us free will. He wants us to go through the process of choosing Him over all other things. He wants us to think through everything with His desires in mind. To sacrifice our will for His. Government should not be tell a woman that she can not have children. I believe the solution to IVF and abortion is education and providing options not in thecontrolling the decision making process. The hideous back alley abortions of my youth will become common once again if we are not careful. My guess is that you have been blessed with children. Probably with no effort. And I hope with a husband that loves them as much as you do. If you feel strongly about your stand then find alternatives. I am sure that those who have gone through IVF would be willing to save their embryos if given a solid alternative to disposal.

    • @tamaraYvonne02

@@wendytravis6427You believe they are a human beings though not everyone and that’s the problem. The government shouldn’t be telling people no because on the belief that an embryo that is just cells right now is a person being killed and bringing religion into this when that’s supposed to be separate from government decisions.

  • @deannawhite3059
    @deannawhite3059 29 днів тому +2

I’m not sure why abortion or IVF should be open to community decision making. While parenthood was never anything I wanted or would have been good at, I have friends who have ended their pregnancy (for a wide variety of reasons) and some who have resorted to IVF and some who have had both. They did what was right for them and their families. Parenthood is a role that is way too important to go into half heartedly. Haven’t we all seen parents who could or would not actually parent their offspring? While I certainly have personal views of what should be done with unused embryos, that too should be left to the donors (for lack of better description). I’m confused and frustrated by those who say they want to limit government yet who insist upon having a say in what people do with their own bodies.
As a personal question for the universe, I have to wonder how many of the changes we’re seeing (growing rates of infertility, gender dysphoria, etc.) is at least partially due to the way we have impacted our environment. I’m 68 and my mother’s generation may have been the beginning of taking drugs of convenience (“diet” pills, Valium, etc.). So, not just street recreational drugs (my generation) but prescribed by some doctor for “valid” reasons. Think about the chemicals and just plain garbage that have been and continue to be discarded into our waterways and elsewhere. Isn’t it possible (probable, even) that all of that has an impact on our gene pool? I’m no scientist but it’s hard to believe that what we do to our earth would not impact the human race as well.

As a senior, today is so challenging because people's intentions seem much more directed at being self-serving, and I have to discern many do not work on the same moral compass as myself. Giving others the "benefit of the doubt" causes me more pause, because I have to listen more carefully at my inner voices and respond accordingly.
