best pedal out there. I use one as my main dirt into a Marshall super bass. perfect post-rock tones with just the right amount of chug. beautiful mids when actually used haha
it really is! imho its the best preamp pedal out there. bare bones but my favorite none the less. if youre into the vh140 tone then this is the end game preamp pedal for it. it IS the gain channel crammed into a pedal.
BearAmps What sort of post-rock tones do you get out of it? Cuz i'm mad intrigued now.
Cool, I never heard this pedal before! I have an Amptweaker Tight Metal and it gets pretty close to the VH140C too.
I talked to james brown about it and the tightmetal was literally based off the ampeg vh140 AND 5150.

@@disembodiedstudios I think I'll have to get the VHD! I'm in the UK, and the VH-140C never comes up for sale. I've looked into the Crate amps that supposedly have the same preamp but all that ever comes up is the combos.
@@FieryBiscuits i own the crate xlp rack pre as well (same as the other "vh140" crate amps ie gx line etc, and while its pretty close to the vh140 its not quite there, the vhd is exact, i could dial it in a bit more to be exact. Highly recommended!
The VH-140C's real gift was not it's low end. It was it's ability to have cutting mids with a huge bottom end. If you mid scoop a VH-140C, it kills the sound in a mix.
I expected the pedal to be a little brighter and it was. The chorus board on the VH-140C muddied up it's sound. When I had my VH, I bypassed the chorus internally to counter that.
fctotal not when youre playing by yourself at home. i crank mids when playing with the band. but its fun to scoop it to get that exact dying fetus tone at home
I can see that. When I first got it back in the 90's, I used to scoop the mids lol. Sounded thick and mean.
As time went on, I pushed the mids up and got that really good saturation. There's a real sweet spot on the mids where the distortion comes alive. Where that spot is depends on where you gain & low end are set as well as what cabinet you're using. Before I sold my head, I was using an ENGL cab for it in the studio and the amp was monstrous through it.
I own three VH heads and yeah, it sounds thick and nasty scooped but this amp shines with some mids added in. Wish more people realized how much more this amp is capable of tone wise. And your are RIGHT about the chorus board. I never noticed when in combo form, but when I started using the heads running one cab dry speaker outs and the other cab chorus speaker outs, there is a definite tone difference between the two. The distortion on the dry speaker outs sounds MUCH better. That's why I run my effects through the chorus speaker outs. Let that side carry the wet signals and the dry speaker outs let that pure VH crunch shine!

These amps are getting so damn hard to find. 500+ dollars. The pedal sounds close enough that I think im going to pull the trigger on it. Thank you for the great comparison,I own the ss70,and heard that the vh140c was the one to have
Dont remind me lol, i sold my vh140 AND peavey vtm120 to buy a bogner ubershall twin jet which in the end it turned out im really not into 😢.
The vh140 was always my favorite amp, im still a bit crushed. Owned an ampeg ss150 as well which i also sold.
On the other hand the snk vhd is spot on, it can be tweaked to sound EXACT. and honestly its even better because you can run it into a good tube poweramp and its even BETTER than the vh140.
But the real amp is just so legendary and rare now, i just wish i had it in my collection still.
Though after getting my engl fireball100 that has taken the top spot as my all time fav amp, ive often compared it to the vh140, has a VERY similar tone. SUPER articulate, tight and precise but also magically SUPER thick and grindy.
I see the FB100 as a modernized tube vh140.
Its fucking awesome, so i dont feel TOO bad lol

I think you should've tweaked around the knobs on both the amp and the pedal for us to hear what happens. Great demo!
Yeah i should have shown a few different tones. Ill probably do another proper demo since i love the vhd so much
Another demo coming after all? Maybe try boosting it with a Tube Screamer or an SD-1.
Its about time i get to it eh lol.
Only problem is i dont have the real thing anymore but i can/will do a proper vhd video at some point

My VH-140C will not go into a channel at all. I was curious because of the title if you think I could "plug this into the power amp section" and have a working VH-140C. I paid $50. It's a 2x12 Combo.
Nicholas Faupel so you have a vh140 combo amp but you dont get any sound? go from the fx SEND of the vh140 and put it into the fx RETURN of a different amp or into a rack poweramp.
theDISEMBODIED Where do I plug the guitar in at? And I'm not sure why I would want this? So I'm just running another amp through those speakers? it's a fuckin lead boat anchor.
Nicholas Faupel plug guitar into main/normal input of vh140. then from the vh140 fx SEND --> fx RETURN of a different amp (this 2nd amp has to be hooked up to a cab)

the pedal sounds like a boosted vh140c. if you put a good boost in front of the vh id bet it would sound even better. good emulation though.
not an emulation, it's a 100% reproduction of the preamp! Running at 9v-12v instead of 15v like in the amp due to pedal PS limitations.
just using john from dying fetuses settings lol. dont worry. i dont go around scooping my mids when im playing live
What the knob setting on amp and on pedal ? I have tight metal and have a difficulty to reproducted the sound
can you please give me the amp settings info? John's of course, that album had a perfect tone, and don't use mids, metal is supposed to be loud and obnoxious, modern bands sounds like shit

ANSELM0 hey, i dont quite remember what the exact settings were but most likely something like .... Bass full, mids noon, treble 3 o clock. Or something close
