  • Scareglow is a vintage Masters of the Universe toy I never thought I would get in my collection, a grail item. Thanks to a very kind donation I was sent the remains of one that although missing and arm and damaged looked like it could be made into something very displayable.

I recently got a deal on Scareglow from ebay. When he arrived i found his legs had been repaired with the hook and o-ring method but, with what ive learned watching these videos, I had no problem replacing them with a proper leg band. Thank you Toy Polloi!

I'm proud to have bought this amazing figure when I was a kid and it first came out. I still have it in complete conditions. Speaking of "rare" MOTU figures I also have a complete Ninjor and a complete King Randor. I have a total of 24 figures, all purchased when I was a kid and they still have all the armors and weapons.

Wonderful job and video as always Dave. It looks absolutely Fantastic. I wish my childhood scareglow looked half as good. In actuality if I took the time to do what you have just done. It would probably be close. I have all the original parts except for the staff. Although the cape is a tattered mess, and the figure is in pieces. You have proven once again that a little time and love for these figures can do wonders. Painting the replacement arm was the kicker. I would not have thought to do that. Again it looks amazing, and as always thank you for what you do.

Amazing. Your work always blows me away and inspires me. Cape looks awesome. I have an original Scareglow figure that is missing its cape. My parents let my little brother play with my toys when I wasn't home, back in the day. One day I was looking through my old toys every vehicle was missing parts or was broken in places. Same with the figures, missing parts. I used to be so careful playing with my toys(very unusual I think) My brother was not, apparently. I dont think I have the chops to be able to recreate a cape though. Very nice work indeed. Merry Christmas to you and every collector who is watching by the way:)

That looks AMAZING! Considering it's nearly 40 years old AND glow-in-the-dark, I'd've just presumed any color differences were age-related. Not a shabby job on a Wabi Sabi project. The origins line Scare-Glow cape is a rubbery material. I like yours better, might take a stab at it. Well it is more of a cloak than a cape just in the construction alone. Was thinking what is the definition of cloak, one search later, it is more of a weather barrier to cold, wind, and rain.🙂
Decent solution for that missing arm, too true that it is quite hard to run into spare Scareglow parts for a reasonable cost heh. Excellent painting work, not an easy pattern to replicate.

Nicely done, sir! Have you tried retro-brighting toys that are molded in colors other than white? I tried it with a Winston Zedemore figure a while back. The light teal parts had turned dark over time but after retro-brighting them they turned back to the original lighter teal. I wonder if that would work for glow in the dark pieces as well? Scareglow seems like he would be a good candidate to try it with.

Toy-knit fleece would have been such a better material for Scareglow's original cape. I am fortunate enough to have a complete Scareglow, and his cape is that same stuff that the Vintage Prince Adam vest is made of, and it feels nasty.

@@toypolloi I actually have a alternate Havoc staff with my scare glow which is glow in the dark. I can dig it out and get you a picture if you want. I'm trying to remember the name of the toy line I may have to check with a buddy of mine they were kind of a Masters of the Universe knock off and one of the characters of that line has a Havoc staff that glows in the dark the top of the staff is a chubby bat with big wings and it was the staff I had with my scarecrows since I was like extremely young I didn't know it didn't go to that scare glow figure till about 2 years ago when I found out it was part of another toy line all together I always assumed it was the Havoc staff for scare glow;). My scare glow cape turn to powder at some point in the 90s I've had the figures since I was maybe seven or eight I thought it was from a contest because I've never seen them in stores originally thought it was from a contest or a mail away. I got mine in a box of Masters of the Universe figures from a thrift store when I was really young I'm 46 years old so do the math. Most of my Masters of the Universe toys came from thrift stores growing up. Always considered myself lucky to have the figure;). Damn if I could remember the name of that toy line right now they had the different little colored rubber gargoyles and one of the characters had big bat wings that came off his back the hero looks like He-Man with black hair and the figure of him is designed very similar to He-Man the hero and the villain each have a glow in the dark sword and the two swords fit together to make a different sword trying to remember the name of the toy line I think it had a cartoon.
