Molten salt would probably react with any moisture in the mold and blow it up. Not to mention it is pretty hard to make a heatproof mold as shown in previous videos. Nice idea though! 🙂
@@justinlipkin there was someone who actually cast salt. however as for blowing up, I do not believe the chemical mixture of salt allows for the sodium to retain that much of its reactivity. salt, at least the kind you're thinking of, is not pure sodium, so the reactivity between sodium and moisture has been negated by that alone. if you think about it, this makes sense, because even when it is molten, the salt still is in essence salt, not pure sodium, meaning it would not react to the moisture regardless of it being molten or not.

Word of warning: Take care with those filings. I once swept a pile of brass filings off a countertop without thinking, and got them in my hand. Which means every time I put pressure on them, they'd stab me a little. It was kind of cool, because they started out more or less invisible (the color matched my skin closely enough that you couldn't see it), but as they oxidized inside my body they became progressively darker. Eventually they worked their way out as my skin aged and sloughed off (natural process, but sounds horrific any way you describe it). Also, I learned that brass is not strongly effected by an MRI magnet. Came up when I broke my leg in an unrelated incident while the filings were still in my hand.
If you want a really nice weathered look. Fill a plastic container with rocks of any size that fits in the container and shake the rocks for about 5 mins. I do it on my knives and it looks really cool.
quick tip for lathe filming, if you are able to adjust your camera fliming frame rate to sync up with the lathe rotations you can get a really sweat piece of film showing progress if the lathe process by making the piece your filming appear still
you could use Stainless Steel (harder to work) then you can spend over 8 hours sanding it from 180 grit upto 2000 grit then polish it up and you will have a mirror finish
I used a die grinder first to get the inside threads out, then small hand files that I generally use for 1/8-1/16th" mild steel sheet for welding projects to finely round it all out. I also used a carbon steel nut, my skin does not like brass very much.
The polished brass is pretty, looks a lot like gold, but brass tarnishes rapidly, it won't stay shiny unless you polish it almost every day. Going with some kind of 'grunge' finish is the only practical thing to do. Keep in mind sharp edges can catch on clothing, which can be a real pain.

Hey Patrick, I'm still waiting for that Jawbreaker ring video!
Patrick please make your beaten up nut ring available on your store
Where did yall get the nuts
Can you make a mold for a ring and then cast
1. Molten glass
2. Molten salt
3. Molten aluminum?

Nice copy and paste
Water if it's vodka since all the ethanol will evaporate
