This has gotta be one of the most underrated songs ever and might be one of the greatest songs ever written in terms of chord progression with all the different parts in the song. Add to this the emotion of all the legendary band members who recorded this song and what you get is a song that’s as close as can get to perfection
This song always brought tears to my eyes but even more so since John's passing. Seeing these pics & video clips just makes me sad of what was and what could have been. John, thank you for your music, your insight, your creativity. It will all live on for eternity and in our forever in our hearts. We miss you & truly hope you are in a better place. Rest in peace, dear John. 🕯 🎸🕯
Probably the best possible song for this occasion...beautiful...feels like Classic Asia could have all their great songs with extended neoprog neopop-rock versions...what an amazing album that would be...fantastic song for one and only John Wetton! This shows what ASIA stands for: AUTHENTIC, SUPERB, INNOVATIVE, AWESOME Absolutely stunning, please more of this :) ASIA FOREVER, JOHN WETTON FOREVER!
Considering that the piece was reconstructed from I have no idea how many pieces, the result is nothing short of incredible. I love your Frankenstein. Thank you; very deeply.
Great tribute to J.W. Awesome footage from 1982/83 tour video & photos. Would kill to see an Asia full concert video from this era. Really nice job done.
As usual on this days, if in 1983 they released both versions, well, we could have a Sort of suite, or conceptual album... My diagnostic is the same: a great album for an awesome band Kind regards from México
Very first time I hear this version and feels like the first time ever for the song itself. I have goosebumps, I love and deeply miss all that stuff, I miss Asia, I miss those days, I miss myself as naïve as I was in my teenage years. Asia forever. John, Geoff, Steve, Carl. ❤
I love the band Asia. I remember talking to a friend at my high school about different bands and I mentioned how much I loved Wetton’s voice from the band Asia. His reply that man can sing we both were in total agreement. I always loved the band their music thanks for the great memories Asia. I still have their music on all my favorite music playlists and still love their music to this day.
I have to say I think I like this version better then the released version. More passion. More instrumentals. More feeling. I love what you did. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Loved JW and miss his music, style, voice. 💝
Part 1 reminds me a lot of the one in Fantasia. My favorite version of the song. Part 2 is quite close to the one, we all know and love from Alpha. Put together this makes for an interesting contrast. This would have made for an awesome 12". A shame, it never happened. Thx for your work!
The fact they used footage from MTV’s “Asia in Asia” mini-doc about the band is ironic “TSHLYE” is my favorite Asia song. I think they made the right call, selecting the LP version over this arrangement, but the beauty of the song is still evident RIP John
I always find myself coming back to this song. It holds a special place in my heart, especially when paired with the MTv music video. John Wetton did a great job describing the horror of divorce and the pain inflicted upon everyone involved in it, especially the children (and in my case: the children's children).
I have heard this arrangement on live concerts and i have to tell you, i prefer this arrangement over the one we got on the Alpha Lp. And this particular version, is the closest we have to what would have been if the band recorded this version instead of the shortened but, apart from the fact that some parts got cut, the most ideas from this, went into the officialy recorded version so, this one, wasn't scrapped completely. However, this arrangement builds up the emotions really well and goes to an epic climax in the end and this is the main reason i prefer this extended version because, there is time and space for the emotions to emerge, they build-up greatly. Thanks for everyone in Asia who brought us some of the greatest and most beautiful music ever written, i wanna thank them from the bottom of my heart and of course, we dearly miss John Wetton but, we are grateful for his gifts all those years.
Wow, great job. This song and the talent is so underappreciated. I only ever heard this song on Rock 105, a shortlived classic rock format in El Paso, Texas. I've been all over the U.S. and have never heard the song anywhere else. It doesn't have the over-commercialized sound most music on the radio has, but people still need to hear this type of music in the mix. When they don't, watch their stress levels rise as they are not musically- and emotionally-grounded in their lives.
After listening to this a couple of times, I had this idea I want to share with you. I'm a fan of John Wetton and Greg Lake and followed their career since their debut with KC, ELP, ASIA and their solo projects. Very often people, including my self, have confused them cause of their voice and baseman role. Over the years with King Crimson and later wit Asia, they have both performed the same songs at different time, such as 21st Century Schizoid Man, I Talk to the Wind, In the Court of the Crimson King (King Crimson). The Sheriff, Bitches Crystal (ELP). Cutting It Fine, Daylight, Eye To Eye, Heat Of The Moment, Here Comes The Feeling, Only Time Will Tell, Open Your Eyes, Sole Survivor, The Heat Goes On The Smile Has Left Your Eyes, Time Again and Wildest Dreams (Asia). So, there's a lot of very good material to make a tribute to these two great front man who never got to play together (for obvious reasons) but whose paths crossed at important periods of their respective lives with at least 3 supergroups. It's a suggestion, what do you think?
Always one of my favourite Asia songs - very good to see that. I do think however that John's voice matured and deepened in the 2000's giving it even more ''whooomph'' factor on some of the later live performances, but even so, a simply superb song. Thanks for all the hard work.
Fantastic job, Rick. Thank you for putting this together. The result is great, and reveals that it must have been quite a task. What a great tribute to John.
The work you put into this deserves a great big thank you. Awesome to see some of the rare footage. My favorite song by one of my favorite bands. Thank you.
It continues to amaze me how many variations to a song & video improve over the time. The sound of this version cold be heard on the 83 demos (at least the basics). They added the images later. In the sound, don’t know but maybe an update to the keyboard sound by Geoffrey. One thing is sure, every new version supersedes the later one. This is a cult song from Asia. You can actually see how things were back in 83.
First of all, thanks a lot for sharing this! I knew the arrangement from the live version on Live In Moscow but I never knew it dated back to the original line-up. I have one question. There is some footage of the original line-up playing which I've never seen before. The clips of Steve and Carl at 2:45 and the performance clips at 4:36 and 4:43 are new to me. Could you please tell me what this is from and where the complete clip can be found? I have never seen any live footage of the original line-up apart from the clips used in the Road To Budokan doc. Thanks again!

I like this version a lot. Feels more raw and energetic. It’s a shame they scrapped the extended track. But nonetheless, still amazing.
