In this video I show how to connect multiple devices to a High Definition TV (HDTV) using a "component switch". A component switch allows you to connect multiple devices to one TV. You select the device simply by pressing a button. Make sure your TV is set to it's "component setting" when selecting the device. Because my only component device is an Xbox, I was able to plug the red/blue directly to the TV and the green to an old composite switch box that also has my VCR plugged in. I have a mess of cables that would confuse an outsider but that I understand perfectly.

I got my component switch at WalMart. You can also get the inputs there as well. BestBuy and RadioShack would also have similar components. Thanks for watching!
Can you connect Apple TV to this? Apple TV just has an HDMI connection. (Sorry if this is a dumb question...I know TVs have HDMI connections but I didn't see any on this device you shared so I wasn't sure if you could switch from Wii to DVD on this to Apple TV?) or would the only HDMI cable be needed for the Apple TV and that's it so not having it on this switch box wouldn't matter?

Yes!!! I've searched for this and now I finally found it! I currently have 5 gaming consoles: Xbox one, two Xbox 360 consoles (one regular and one modded), original Xbox console, Wii console, a ps2 , and eventually a PS3 console . ...ok so eventually I'll have 7 consoles! Also, the stereo RCA jacks for audio are NOT "composite audio." Next, you mentioned that using the yellow/white/red cables for the DVD player would be worse than using red/green/blue ones, which is also false. The colors on the ends have nothing to do with it, it's about the shielding on the cables. You really need to learn your stuff...
I'm borrowing my Xbox from a friend so I didn't get the scart adapter. I was just trying to show an easy way to connect multiple items to one TV that only have one component set. I could have made a few videos to show all of the options, but I felt like it would have made the video more confusing. Also, I have other items connected to my TV, so in my case the component switch made sense. Thanks though for the comment and for watching!

Can a ( Y ) adaptor split one video input to 2 video inputs in my car ? one for back camera and the other for dvd player ? Actually i have a lcd screen installed in my car seprately with my car dvd player. I want to connect my reverse camera direct to lcd which has only 1 video output.
My dvd player does not have reverse cam input or any video input (has only output). So i have connected an seprate lcd with it. Now i want to cennect a reverse camera with it, but the lcd does not have a second video input ? How can i creat a second video input ? Please help. Thanks.
Amy DaRocker you should go and ask on a forum youll get a faster and better answer there. I dont think a y extention would work but i dont know how you could manage to do it although im sure there is a solution

I'm not sure if you can purchase this exact one, but there are similar ones in stores and online. They basically all do the same thing.
What a waste of a component switch why not just use a hdmi cable for the xbox and plug the composite rca plugs from ur DVD player to the combined compisite/component input?
If you have the older xbox without hdmi then why not plug the component cable from the xbox to the component input and the composite to the scart adapter you get with the xbox and plug it in to the scart input?
Thought it was a waste of money in your case and u said u saves money because you're a student, just sayin :P

I think the Y shaped adapter should work. As long as you don't have both on at the same time, the signal should get through to you TV.

Question. I have a Samsung TV, DVD Player with surround sound and a Cable Box. Got HDMI ports. HDMI 1 is connected to the cable box. So, basically, I need to connect the DVD Player to HDMI 2. But when I use both device, my DVD player wont recognize either HDMI 1 or 2. Keeps on giving me NO ARC Found. Please advise. Thanks

Hello, I am not a very tech savvy and I have a question. My mother is Hearing impaired so I recently purchased her headphones to use while she watches TV. Then after I purchased the headphones I purchased Netflix on our Wii but for some reason the headphones do not work for the Wii? Any help would be greatly appreciated! The headphones cables are red and white if that helps.

What I meant by "worse" was that the Component wires (red, blue, green) would provide a better signal than just using the yellow plug for video.
May I ask why you watched the video in the first place?
I've been having trouble hooking up my DVD player, Direct TV, PS3 and VCR. They all only have just the yellow, white, and red plugs, I plugged them all in and it isn't working :/
We followed your instructions and connected the component switch just like the one you showed in your video. Everything worked fine, except the colors are all off, and we can't get them adjusted. We have strong presence of blue and green tints, very light on the red. The U-verse menu that is typically blue is now brown. The Netflex that was red is now blue. Any suggestions to why we cannot get the colors adjusted? Walt

How to you hook all that to a surround sound unit? I have a switch box, but the sound only comes out of the tv. My actual cable goes through the surround sound. Can't figure how to get the sound from everything else.
somehow I'm missing the part about what/how to connect the component switch to the TV itself. I just bought a new TV, have all my cables in my old component switch box all ready but have no idea how to connect it to new tv - not sure how I accomplished it the first time actually! please help! every time I try to search for more vids yours is the first one on the list and I can't seem to find anyone else whose vid even mentions anything about component switch hookup... :(
This is all so confusing. We have a direct tv box (no hdmi ), dvd/vcr combo (No hdmi), surround sound which has HDMi, When hooking all these up, we would like to have surround sound with anything that plays. Today we got our new Samsung model # UN55JU6700F Tv. Sound from both direct tv box and DVD comes on at the same time. I mean you can hear them both at the same time. What are we doing wrong ?

Rich I hate to ask how much? I have a 3splite RCA wire's but have more devices. I'm having a problem with the Bose DVD CD player it's not wireless and someone broke the door tuner and speakers work fine. Best buy recommended a regular DVD CD player to put on top since Bose don't make it anymore, problem DVD player is not showing on Vizio smart TV and Bose DVD keeps saying no disk! I have Chrome Cast in one HDMI port and the TV at this time in direct TV box I'm trying to eliminate DirecTV and use sling TV. Oh the other is I have to use converter box with antenna because Vizio smart TV doesn't have a tuner! I'm pretty complicated right? So DVD player to DVD player and yes I tried aux no sound.And converter box to TV and DVD player and Chrome Cast should be okay just in HDMI port. I like you have very limited income have everything but new antenna have digital but newer style of rabbit ears and my broadcast stations are about 55mls out. Hope you can help Thanks Deb

Yes, as long as the Roku and the DVD both have RCA cables (red, white, yellow, etc.).

Awww Uverse. I just started experimenting with different wires that I bought at the store and tried them in different ports until I got the xbox to work. Still working on the DVD/VCR combo and other devices. Keep trying!

Hi, thanks for the video. My problem isn't a lack of AV inputs etc. My question is - what's the best way to connect 2 devices such as Sky box as well as a Talk Talk You View box to 1 TV - both devices need areal connection, so I'm thinking they will have to share the 1 areal but have a 'Y' shaped adapter which enables me to share the areal and then some kind of boosting device. Do you have any thoughts on this? Am I miles off?
