- Update: this location is now under claim and is no longer legal to collect.
In this adventure we travel to a secret location after several failed attempts at mine tailings near Eureka, Utah. What we find there literally blew me away! I had no idea we could find them that big so close to home...

If this is publicly accessible land, providing GPS coordinates would be nice for others who may wish to find their own. That could also help grow your channel. I'm one of those who enjoys getting tips and locations to find my own; instead of watching others do it or store/site purchasing anothers finds. Main reason I started checking out rockhounding videos here. This spot looks worth a visit.
I have been getting better at providing GPS coordinates for my videos, but this location in particular was shown to me by another who specifically asked me not to reveal the location. I am simply being respectful in this instance, but when it comes to places that i find myself or from publicly known areas I will be more than happy to share the location!
@@theruggedrockhound Roger that. Heard and understood. I noticed your Idaho Smokey Quartz excursion you gave a location and will be checking it out in April. Thank you!
@@Xepheraxepher Good luck! If nothing else, it is a beautiful area!
How fun to see pyrite being found in rock 🪨/wild.😊
Yep, it used to be pyrite, but then started to rust away, and in the process turned into a completely different mineral!
I found some limonite from pyrite recently and want to clean it up… some I can chip off but some of the material is like cement on it. Is there a chemical or acid I could put on it that wouldn’t eat or damage the limonite?
Not that I am aware of, but I have thought about trying a small sand blaster or something.
What do you do with all of the rocks, crystals and minerals you find? Do you make jewelry? Art? That would be cool to see. Looks like fun adventures always! Thanks for sharing 😊
I do have lots of ideas in mind! Right now I just collect and store them, but eventually I do plan to make things with them and sell them when I have more time
If you’re looking at mines you should look at the mine promoted by Robert kiyosaki as being great. Well
Him and marion Katusa that does mining deals and funding supposedly found a gold seam and made it into a public trade company now, but it’s supposed to be by eureka
Dang! Where was this?
Lake Mountain (mountain on the west side of Utah lake). The exact location I was asked, by the person who showed me the location, to not give out. If I had found it myself, I would be more than happy to give the location. There may be more deposits like this on lake mountain, so I would recommend exploring! There is also the known Pelican Point area to look for limonite crystals on this same mountain.
@@theruggedrockhound I've been to the Pelican point spot before but I thought this was Eureka?
We started in eureka but then left when we didn't find much.
Love the record scratch haha
Thanks! Took me a while to find the record scratch that I liked...
I am sure you know this but HCl acid can clean off calcite, but maybe be careful with the other minerals, always safe to test a crappy piece to see how it works.
Thanks! that is what I was thinking too
Which part of eureka? I thought all of the abandoned mines there were on private property
Unfortunately, you are right and most are private so we went further south past silver city to some small prospects that are mostly forgotten. Anything that was a large operation is private now.
@@theruggedrockhound I was honestly kind of fishing to see if you were on our mine site lol. I’m the chief fire assayer at the only active mine there 😂
@@TheStoned_Dwarf No worries! I try to do my best to research any area I visit so that I am not trespassing or claim jumping.
Yall just over taking each others finds like I'll keep this one over here
Haha it is like that sometimes
I've found a lot of limonite pseudoscience here in NM, but none as killer as those!
Thanks! I used to live in NM in las cruces, and I used to go find wulfenite crystals and fluorite crystals from the abandoned mines around the Organ mountains.
@@theruggedrockhound I live in Las Cruces and that's what I do.
@@glennhales617 Oh nice!
Please never reveal this spot!! Thanks :) we should dig in Utah sometime
Don't worry! I promised not to and I keep my promises!
@@theruggedrockhound you should make an instagram account to start cataloging your amazing finds! You always kill it, im sure the account would gain a large following
@@maxwellnovetzke5190 Good idea! I haven't really branched out into other social media platforms, and the Facebook account I have needs to be revised and changed. I will have to look into it!
