Somewhere in the video I state that bronchitis is a URI - what I meant to say was that it is most likely secondary to a URI. Bronchitis itself is a lower respiratory tract infection. Sorry for the mistake!
Except every time I go they can actually see with the X-ray that I've actually has fluid in my lungs so it may be in some cases needed I get the steroid shot and the steroids and those usually the only thing that clears up bronchitis when I get it and medically I haven't gotten it a long time until just recently that's because I tested positive for a certain virus but luckily I'm already getting better I think the steroids actually work
Thanks for this video mate, I am myself suffering from bronchitis and have been given steroids and I feel while short term it instantly fixed it, it has increased the frequency of my wheezing instances.
I have acute bronchitis - and have been immobilized for a couple of days. When I coughed in front of the doc at the ER - doubled up and not getting my breath - she was VISIBLY surprised that I wasn’t a smoker. Immediate steroid shot in the butt, 500 Levaquin, oral steroids, inhaled steroids, anti mucus, and ozempic. 6 hours later I’m feeling a little better, breathing rate has come down. Chest is still Beyond sore and feels raw from coughing, shoulders and chest muscles are painful - but goodness, thank you for giving me everything to knock this on the head. Edited to add: this was on vacation from the US in Spain.
Leave out the toast. Bread isn't necessarily a good thing when you're trying to clear your sinus or throat of mucus. It will only thicken mucus like dairy. Garlic and Honey--Yes.
My husband and I were on holiday in Antigua, 2 weeks ago and we both caught chest infections. A Dr came out and said I had bronchitis and I was prescribed both antibiotics and steroids. I know both of these may not be necessary but I have never felt so ill so quickly and I had wheezing and rhonchi sounds so I was glad to take the meds in case it got even worse! Thanks for the video 😊
Just fyi. I have bronchitis, and they gave me oral prednisone and amoxicillin. About 20 minutes of taking the prednisone, the burning sensation and pain from my lungs feeling like they where being ripped apart with every cough, greatly subsided. Though from the previous night, tylenol achieved the same effect for the most part. The prednisone seemed to be more effective, in reducing the inflammation of my air ways. For much less painful cough. Just a thought. Tylenol is pretty good anti inflammatory, I'd say try that first. Not a doctor btw, so take that with a grain of salt.
Andrew thank you for this post. As a new grad I am not always aware of the specific medications to use. Could you give examples of the specific medications to use?
Thank you for the video . My journey with Bronchitis has been a tough one since 2010 .In 2012 ,X-ray was done and had no lung infection ...got some medication ... but after a year,it came back but wasn't that serious.Infection ,since then has been on and off and been taking cetrizine to calm sneezing and severe chest whizzing and coughing. This oral practice has been working well but of late(2020 April) ...chest pain ,coughing and sneezing have been my 8 hr daily lifestyle. Whizzing soo common every 2 or 3 hours and sometimes persistent throughout the day. Today a doctor recommended an Inhaler(Salbutamol) which is worked fine BUT am worried if there are tough related side effects. I really need a permanent solution for this !!!!My Airways are super reactive ....same case to my nostril system ...It always begins with a rhythmical unending cough for like 2 minutes...then boom ...difficulty in breathing ! Sneezing accompanying this or clogged nose. NB: I do not smoke but rarely drink.
I just quit smoking after 14 years. its been about a month and I dont have a cough at all but when i do cough or feel like bringing a noogie up it comes up with tar and about once a day with blood. I got blood test done and Chest Xrays and everything came up clear, no signs of infection or bronchitis but they still gave me steriods. Should i take them?
Great video, first time I see a discussion of inhaled steroid treatments for bronchitis. It makes a lot of sense to! Do you - or anyone else reading along - have a recommendation for the type of mouth inhaler, given that the problem is in the upper airways (not lungs). Spray or the crushed powder? I cannot use a nose inhaler as it causes nosebleed within 2 days (yes, I use it correctly).
What kind of damage am I looking at if I were to take the prednisone my doctor prescribe for me about five days ago? I am 59 years old coughing so severely a week ago I stopped breathing, momentarily never had a cold like this before... but anyway my doctor prescribe prednisone where I take six tablets the first time and then one less each day after that for about a week or less I think. Along with a God awful sounding antibiotic, as I am allergic to penicillin, I looked that one up and it sounded like the scariest thing on the planet so I didn’t want to take that either. First day with mucus D had my fingers crossed it would help, maybe it did a little bit but still feel awful... still haven’t taken the prednisone 5MG or the Levofloxacin 500MG. My chest hurts I just wanted to go away how bad could the prednisone really be for a week?
"Majority of patients with acute bronchitis will have a cough for two to three weeks after the infection has cleared." How do you know when the infection has cleared? I'm coughing up small amounts of yellow sputum six weeks after onset, with possible low grade fever that comes and goes, so I assume this means the infection hasn't cleared. Might 5 days of Prednisone at least be worth a try?
I dont have no cough , but I do have breathing problems , fatigue , and tiredness all the time , and My lungs always hurt from my back , and they prescribed me steroids and inhaler should I be taking it or no ?? I'm worried
3 or 4 Inhaled steroid treatments cleared up my bronchitis... it brought immediate relief. The subsequent cough treated over the counter for 2 to 3 days.
My bronchitis cleared up completely 10 days on orithromicyne and steroid pack, but returned 2 weeks after stopping meds. Maybe I should have been on meds longer?? Persistent croupy cough with mucus ruining my life. Must be bacterial if it responds to antibiotic as it did, no???
Last 2 months am getting white mucus and sob and my in ct findings bronchial and peribronchial thickening in both lungs showed is this acute bronchitis?
I've had a cough for about 8 days with phlegm no fever went to the doctor he gave me two shots in the buttocks one for cough and one antibiotic I believe and he gave me Bromfed and also received a z-pack I read a lot online that you should wait it out before taking antibiotics but I did take two pills today do you think everything will be okay
Rest, drinking ALOT, inhaled steroid, keep your vitamins up. I find rest and hydration the main things. I was told it would be quicker to get rid of with a steroid inhaler. Mine does drag on and on.
Anna Kohler Great that I could help. I had stopped taking Prednisolone on my own as I thought that it was making me gain weight. (Not true) But then I started getting colds frequently, so I analyzed my situation, and realized that I had stopped taking Prednisolone 4 months ago. So two weeks ago, I saw my doctor and went back on 7.5 mgs per day and my flu is now gone. So the lessons for me is ‘ Do not stop taking it without consulting my Doctor ’. I am stronger now and in a better mood. Thank you so much for your encouragement. I deeply appreciate it.
thanks for the video. I'm sick now with acute bronchitis and sinus infection. my doctor have me taking z-pack, Azithromycin, Fluticasone Propionate, Ventolin, 800 ibuprofen, and Cetirizine. had bad cough Since Monday...4th day now..started meds yesterday, So two days in on meds...I feel horrible, cough is horrible. my doctor told me if I don't feel better to let her know...I will definitely be calling in the morning.
De de / me too and this Rx is like nothing And my cough is so bad it continues all night long. I am so depressed and tired from hacking and coughing all night long day after day for now at least a week
Suzy Sanders I'm just now starting to feel a little better...the cough is still here : ( ...I wouldn't wish this on nobody. I never knew how bad this could be until now. hope you feel better soon. I really do understand.
That’s nuts I’ve had this glue cough-cold sinus infection for over a week with cough progressing to chest and then began having worse cough (wet) with white then yellow then lt. Green mucous. I’m on 2nd day of prednisone and I see no changes at all and continue to have this continuously. It’s worse at night and I have had no sleep at night at all. I am worn out and depressed. Isn’t there anything that can stop this?there must be something else for this. Last time I had it( maybe 2 years ago, dr gave me something different y and it started working right away- please respond. I’m drinking lots of water and broth
Did you get over this and how? I've had the same thing for 7 weeks. Slowly getting better and don't want to take antibiotics. Hope to hear from you soon.
@@Blakebeans514 yes I did. It was 9 weeks for me. I didn't take any antibiotics, just vitamin c, d and zinc. I also took a garlic supplement, olive leaf and NAC. I ate only very healthy foods. Hope you feel better soon.♥️
In my case - you would not have been the right doctor for me- the oral steroids was the answer and there was no side affect that I can think of- that said- overall - your argument against the immediate use of oral steroids was unconvincing - it boiled down to a “side effect” avoidance argument. Generally - that’s a patient choice issue - what you have failed to explain is which type of steroid works faster and is most efficient - that’s what you offer the patient - leave the side effects as a patient choice issue -

Fresh crushed garlic mixed with honey on buttered toast twice a day will knock it down to half!
Thank you...this has been recommended to me by friends ! Cetrizine nolonger working for me.
will go for this

This didn’t work for me 😢 I had to take the steroids I could NOT breathe.
Thank you so much for this! It helps to hear a professional say this. You answered my question

You should also take into account if the patient has Adrenal Insufficiency. Then low dose prednisolone may be advised
