I'm shocked that Joseph only has 1.7k subscribers. But when you think about it 1.7k is a lot of people. I kind of feel like I'm in an exclusive club of people who get to enjoy these videos when Joseph releases them just for us.
I’m truly humbled. I do feel like I have a tight community here who values meaningful content pertaining to fragrance and shows true passion and curiosity! I’m glad you are enjoying what I do here. It means a lot. ✨🙏
Like your reviews on BN and actually wearing a decant sample of Yatigan today. Have tried it before (6yrs ago or more) but this newer one has better opening. Longevity is not more than 3-4 hours max in my arid climate. Still I do like the fragrance. Nowhere near the animalic it has been described to have with my newer decant. Subscribed!
Thank you so much for subscribing! Long live Yatagan!! 🙏
I learned so much from this video Joseph, thanks so much for sharing. I'm super interested in getting my nose of the un homme, yatagan and le 3meme
That’s great! I hope you enjoy these classics ☺️🙏
Busy week just catching up on missed videos. This was great JJ much appreciated 🙏
Thank you my friend! 🙏☺️
I really appreciate these comparison videos, and this time of some of my favorite scents.
Thank you so much!!
A couple of years ago I tried the vintage version of Yatagan and I was quite impressed. Now I have a modern 2018 bottle and have to say that the vintage one is much better - yes, more animalistic but also way more articulated and sharp. Comparing to the vintage one, the modern version is more vague, soft and even sweet - a kind of a lavender soap with some soft bitter herbs laying on cheap soy bean chocolate.
I blind bought Caron Pour Homme, a vintage bottle from the early 80s. At first I was misled by the sweetness of the scent , but shortly after oh dear ❤ fell in love . Lavender , vanilla and a weird cocoa vibe . Wish it projected more , it’s decent for $45 bucks 5-6h can’t complain !
Brilliant! So glad that in the end you were smitten 😊
A white button down and a proper heather tweed golf hat would suit you well for your videos. Thanks for the knowledge and shared insight.
You’re welcome, and thank you so much! I like the idea of that ensemble 🙏
This was a great cross-section JJ. Le 3e Homme still probably my fav of the line currently, but I'm well down a good 60 mL of the original from layering it so much. Haven't tried Yatagan yet, but I will say that I'm more than a little surprised and impressed that Caron still sells it. This summer was the summer of Pour un Homme de Caron Sport for me. One of the few minty, salty gourmand-ish freshies out there.
Thank you so much! Pour Un Homme de Caron Sport is really a departure and a great creation. Sadly, it apparently didn't have wide enough appeal to keep it production. I love that salty ambergris-esque dry down.
JJ!!! Yay!!! Love your video!!!! So Amazing!!! 🙏❤️🙏❤️🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏
Thank you friend! 🙏♥️☺️
Thanks for such reasonable opinions on reformulation. I have all three and agree with your points. People forget that it’s a business and most of the complainers never buy at retail. Why should their opinions be considered?
The topic is worth exploring further! Thanks for stopping by...
YATAGAN!!!!! Anytime, anywhere!!!! Love it!
You know it!!
I love Caron Parfums
... Yuzu Man still havent tried... but I will, when inflation passes. Thanks for the great video.
You're welcome, and thank you for your support!
Super explanation on the changes of time in a bottle and 💯 % correct love how you simply break down the juice in lay mans term 🙏👍✌️
Thanks so much for the feedback. It means a lot! My mission is to hopefully make vintage and classic fragrance exploration seem less intimidating and to help others navigate through all the information (and misinformation!) that they might encounter. This hobby should be more fun rather than anxiety-inducing! 👍🙏☺️
It's great you mention current options for perfumers making new stuff that doesn't need to "sell" lol... Rogue and Papillon would be two I love in that arena... Namely Chypre Siam and Salome respectively... They're incredible and seemingly from another time, even though they aren't...! Having said that I do have a handful of fragrances that are REALLY vintage (my oldest bottle of JOY Parfum is from 1948)... Who knows if they're better... I likely won't even open (THAT one)... But one that I feel very strongly differs from the current version is Chanel Pour Monsieur... I can only assume it's the oakmoss restrictions that have... Well... CHANGED (I'm being so kind!) the current formulation... Vintage bottles (pre 2000) are leagues better and still smell gorgeous... Would love to watch a comparison of that one from you!! 🎉
Thanks for taking the time to leave such thoughtful comments! I’d do a comparison if I had a sample of the current/recent version. I have an early 90s version (labeled “Cologne” for the US market) and it’s spectacular!
I got my vintage black cap Caron Pour un Homme. It has restored my faith in buying vintage! Now I’m curious about the modern formulation as well. Especially if it is apparently the same (so they say) as the original formulation.
I also got a Royal Bain de Caron! I hardly had a chance to smell it, but so far may remind me of a less sweet Joop Le Bain
Yes, the more recent Pour Un Homme is just less musky. Ahh Royal Bain! Lovely ☺️
3eme is my favorite fragrance. The current (well ~5 years ago) iteration is top notch.
Stellar. In my top 5 all-time favorites.
I have all of these in their modern iterations and Yatagan is my favorite❤
Yatagan is really special 🌟
Brilliant comparison
Thank you very much! 👍
I genuinely believe a sizable portion of vintage collectors simply enjoy the scent of aged fragrances and don't realize it. My collection is around 80% vintage and I always notice how some notes seems muted and others stronger. It's like good wine and is an integral part of the hobby. I'm very curious to see how some of my modern Guerlain will age since their reformulations can be so close to the originals. Another one I noticed a massive change is my bottle of Lonestar Memories. Straight out the box it smelled very rough and a bit screechy, like the notes didn't mesh together well. After spraying it a couple times and letting some air in the bottle it seems to have massively changed and is now much more smooth and rounded.
I firmly believe this has maturation and degradation plays a significant part in it. For many fragrances though, the degradation does make an impact on the integrity of the composition.
I've always been too scared to try Yatagan, now that i've heard your thoughts on it, i'm even more scared 😝
3eme for the win!
Oh no, I LOVE it! Let’s see if we can you a sample…
nice review, it's true that houses look at profit and reformulate perfumes based on fashions, but it's also true that they reformulate to reduce costs, that is, first I'll sell you a good product then start reducing the quality.. Regarding Yatagan you have compared the almost late 90 version with the current one, the 90 version was already very attenuated, IFRA had already hit, try Yat 76/88 then tell me. Pour un Homme was certainly "reinforced" in the first 80's, to keep up with the superpowers of the time, then it returned "as before" The 3 man. It was excellent in 1985 and also in the first 90, the current one is certainly lighter.. In my opinion, the one who lost the most among all is Yatagan
Greetings
Thanks for your comment and input! 🙏
which yatagan is more manly?? also which has more longevity and projection between the new and vintage? thnx
Both are equally manly and have the same longevity and projection.
thnx man... i can get a 120ml 2015 batch and 50ml vintage for about the same price. but can afford only one. which do u recommend pls help. does the newer version still have good animalics dirty vibe? thnx alot
@@rexloss7199 the newer still does, yes.
thanx so do i just buy the new for the better deal? will i be missing out much with the new formulation? sorry to badger but want some expert's confirmation.
@@rexloss7199 If its a matter of value and having more to use, definitely just get the 120ml! It's great :)
How does the projection and longevity of the old pour un homme compare to the new one?
No difference!
Thanks JJ ! Caron , great house & video🤘🏼 HIT THE LIKE 👍🏼
Thank you, pal!
I also have the vintage/modern combo for all three of these. I agree with your conclusion. Caron really does an exemplary job with its formulations. Can't say the same for all houses of course.
Absolutely. There are some houses that have pretty much laid their oldies to waste, and might as well discontinue them at this point.
This is interesting! I have a bottle of Arome 3 by D’ORSAY and it smells like a better version on Caron’s Pour Un Homme. Unfortunately my wife hates it so I wear it when I go to bed. Yatagan smells like a pharmacy in Chinatown. I’ve taken Chinese medicine for over 10 years which I am used to. I do have a vintage aftershave which is really nice. I find the EDT too overpowering. Great informative video JJ! Really interesting.
Thanks, Chris!
Great review. For someone that loves Pour Un Homme, would you say I'd like Le 3eme ?
Thanks! Would you appreciate the notes of clove and carnation?
@@JJColb I'm going to be honest and say I don't know what cloves smell like.
@@usefulknowledge6074 visit your market and see if you can smell them!
@@JJColb Blind-bought it and it arrived today. I like it a lot. I thought it would remind me of pour un homme but it didn't. Now, only yatagan left to complete my caron collection.
@@usefulknowledge6074 that’s great!
12:30 Caron Miyake ?
Hmm??
@@JJColb The bottle looks familiar
@@tanz5389 Ahhh right…perhaps the original version of the L 3e Homme bottle inspired Miyake…
@@JJColb Ha !
Great video JJ keeps this topic vintage and new reformulation 👌🔥🔥
I will keep the discussion going for sure! 👍
