Just wanted to tell you THANK YOU. You just saved my family's backside. We are literally in the middle of a hurricane and we lost water. Called every well guy for 50 miles and no one could come out on this down pour of a Saturday evening. Followed you steps to the T and BAM!!! We have water. So again thank you.
Thank you!!! I watched your video. I cleaned the connectors on the pressure switch with an emery board, tightened the screws, put the cap on. Turned on the power. I got water!!!! Yay!!! Thank you!!!
Thank so much for this video. Water pump suddenly stopped working four days ago. I thought of calling a again the company that fixed it. Then I found your video. I was a contact problem I did not even file the contacts just open and close then switched back control panel and pump is running like new. The feeling of satisfaction from being able to solve a problem was so great. "You made my day.".
Thank you Bill, for your excellent instructional video. Took it step by step, turned off my hot water heater, and well pump, use a volt meter, etc.etc...Contact points were the problem! Hardest part of the job was taking off the side panel of my well house...Saved me a ton of money!!!
I wouldn't have believed it if it didn't happen to me. Tank ran out of water and pump would not work. After watching this video I checked the switch and a small hard-shell bug had gotten wedged between the electrical contacts. Pulled it out and everything is back to normal. Thanks!
Thank you! I just fixed my loss of water. I didn’t file the contacts though. Instead I cleaned them with rubbing alcohol and q-tips. Worked like a charm.
Just wanted to take a minute to thank you, as you just saved me $30 on a new pressure switch. A couple points, when I tested mine with my multimeter I wasn't getting continuity across one side and that was the side that needed cleaning. Of course if you're in there, might as well do both, right? But I had already cleaned both and still no juice. So testing it guided me to which one to work on more. Also, I didn't have a file slim enough to fit in there so I wrapped some sandpaper around the tip of flat head used that to clean up the points. Hope this helps someone else down the road.
A GIGANTIC THANK YOU all the way here in the Philippines at my other house! The high humidity and salt air here at the beach was the culprit on the contacts. A simple nail file fixed this problem!!!
Hey brother, thanks for making this video. You just saved me money by finding something between one of the contacts that kept the pump from turning on. Kudos!
I have the exact same pressure switch, and it wouldn't turn on after 2 weeks without power. I cleaned the contact surfaces lightly with some sandpaper and presto, it works now. Must have been corrosion on the 4 contacts. Thank you.
This video has been by far the most helpful out of anything Ive found. My points were sparking as it turned out extremely dirty. I took my chainsaw file and my pump has never been happier. God bless!
You should use a contact burnisher which is a very thin piece of metal with a file-like surface to clean the points. A regular file will either destroy the contact points or cause them to wear out faster.
Thanks! I figured my switch stopped working due to dirty contacts but wasn't sure exactly where they were. A few swiped with a nail file in the right spot and we're back up and running!
Ty very much very detailed and straight to the point with accurate information and I just fixed a connector and tighten everything up and filed the points and she's back on again ty again
How would you go about cleaning the water side of the switch? We have a higher than normal sulfur content in our water and it forms hard deposits that HAVE clogged the jet itself in the pump and the capilary tube and most likely the pressure switch itself.
Hi William, nice video. My 1 1/2 horse pump is two years old. Replaced pressure tank 1 month ago along with new pressure switch and gauge. Tank pressure is set at 40/60 psi. When pressure cuts in the pressure switch clicks twice. It just started doing that. What adjustment should I make to fix this? Thank You!
I had a new one install and stated staying on after 2 weeks every now and again. It didn't do it so much in the winter but now in spring it's sticking on until I prize the contacts open.
Ants. I had a million dead ants all inside the pressure switch box and crusted up between the contacts. Was easy to diagnose and fix thanks to this video. Then someone said, the ants aren't really that bad of a problem. It's the uncles that you really have to watch out for. BOOM! Thank you. I'll show myself out.
I wish he had actually did a troubleshooting video in which he troubleshooted more than just dirty contacts, I came here to troubleshoot my pressure switch to see how to properly adjust it to the proper settings. But I guess I will have to look elsewhere.
This is a big problem that saved me a bunch of money. It's called a pressure switch because when it loses pressure in the line it turns on the pump a simple on off switch. If you want more or less pressure you need to check a variety of things. You can increase or decrease pump size to change velocity. You adjust pressure to waterlines and flow through the holding tank for that matter. I hope this helps. My water quit on me one day my dad taught me how to fix this problem. Now men like this man are doing the same. One day if you continue on well water you will have this issue. Its way more affordable than buying a new switch and offers a feeling of accomplishment
Pressure gauge question. I have 40/60 pressure switch. I watched the pressure gauge go from 55psi to 38psi while sitting on floor of basement for an hour. At 38psi the pump started and stopped at 55psi. Again the pressure started to drop. No water was used and we have no leaks of any kind. What do you think?
Honestly watched this video right when I got home when I went a day without water, wife was upset, didn't want to spend the big bucks, I watched this video and after five minutes bam I have water again, I'll be getting laid tonight thanks to this guy and after a shower obviously 😂
Is there a way to fix the little spring that push the electrical contacts ? I saw the little pin that is holding the spring just came loose and ejected the little pin. I put everything back and the pump functioned well but after one cycle the spring and pin ejected again so no more contact when reaching low pressure. Any ideas or time for a new switch?
Thank you (911) Mother hen needs h20 for her chicks... Is there a way to do any adjustments without a working gauge on the pump or pressure tank. I bought the house and the pump was as is. The pump runs so far 20 min. and it never shut off. The pressure switch states that its calibrated at 30-50. I set the pressure , bladder tank at 28 psi with a pump. I don't know if the pressure switch is at the 30-50 factory settings. Is there a way to back out the screws and start over counting the turns. Or in a pinch get the pump to get water to the house. The pressure tank is empty and the pump just runs with out any water to house or well/trol pressure tank. Any help is appreciated.
This problem is beyond the scope of this video. Address this problem promptly before the pump gets damaged. Consider hiring a local well contractor to solve the problem.
I've been hearing this thing clicking on and off in my closet for months. I knew it has something to do with the well water, but didn't know what was making that sound. I finally know what's going on in there...
Make sure you have the proper air reserve in your pressure tank. Consult the pressure take manufacturer for further information. May want to hire professional come to you. It may save you a lot of money with a damaged pump.
Switch comes on for a few minutes with great pressure output then switches off what advice do you have for solving or diagnosing this problem. The pressure switch is new.
Can this also cause the pump to not turn off? I went to change my hot water tank lines and ball valve and I can’t get the water to turn off. I turned the power off to the pump and closed the valve. So I’m guessing the valve is bad and won’t close all the way, or maybe this? Idk. Im trying to figure it out. Haha.
It is possible. The switch may have a clog in the liquid end. Anything beyond this you may want to hire a professional to repair it for you before you damage your pump.
My pressure switch is 20/40. It used to turn on the pump at 20 psi and turn it off at 40 psi. Now it’s turning it on at 30 psi instead and turning it off at 40 psi. Any idea what’s causing it to turn on the pump sooner than it should?
Hello sir I have a same pressure switch but there is problem of cut off and cut in in one second what is the issue I don't understand please tell me and also give solution so I can save money thanks
How do can I move the Pressure Switch from a pump like that to a water pressure pump? Now I have a pressure switch just on my well shall pump and I want to instal new Pressure tank in my house wich come with pre-installed pressure switch how do I rewiring pressure switch from the pump to pressure switch on my new pressure tank
Mine is constantly coming on with no water running every 3-4 minutes all the time every day? Do you know why. And only for a minute then shuts off??? Please help
Yes I did. I pulled it up and found out that the top of the pump was cracked. I thought it was a check velve but I was wrong. I Went to tractor supply bought a new pump 370$ and replaced the old one. Now it holds pressure 👍😃
But what if it sticks on and won't turn the pump off? This has happened 3 times now to me in the past week, and the switch is only a few months old. I'm baffled! I have to take cover off and use corner of plastic cover to pry the contacts apart (while the pressure gauge is reading some 75 lbs of tank pressure) and then the thing will work right against (40/60 psi) for a few days then I'll find it stuck on yet again. Ordering a new switch, because this is dangerous! :-|
My pressure switch has a arm on it . A d type. Once replace its now jumping on and off. The gauge when it turns on says the pressure shoots up over 60 there fore shutting down then when it pins down to 30 or lower it kicks in it does it on off very quick what am I doing wrong! Also I don't have the tank hooked thus far . Cause the guy I hired stepped on pvc pipe and busted it all the way to the tank
Don’t file your contacts, just buy a new $20-$40 switch and replace the gauge while ur at it so you don’t get a false reading. Filed contacts last for a few days, you take too much material off and it doesn’t make proper contact and the pump doesn’t turn on. It can harm the pump. Hello Sir, I have a water pump that does not shut off. The pressure builds to the normal value but the pump does not shut off, however the pressure does not rise beyond the usual normal cut-out pressure. The supply water tanks water level was very low recently and when they were filled again then I noticed that the water pump does not shut off. A new pressure switch was installed about two years ago. Any tips on what could be the problem? Thanks.
I have same problem. Water is there, tank is full of water and bladder has the 35psi air , switch getting plenty of water and at high enough pressure. Pump motor keeps running. Even went 7 turns out (ccw) on nut #2...no change. (nut 2 should lower cut-off pressure, according to the writing inside cover) new motor, 2nd new switch. (Switch not problem?)
Can any one help me. Because I have a problem about booster pump controlling through hydrovar VFC. That pump is running continuously. Their is no water leakage in the line, NRV is also good, pressure tank is also ok. It's cutt-off pressure is 2.5 bar.
My pump is not coming on, But the problem is not the pressure switch Contacts. the issue with my P.Switch is the contacts are in the open position, in other words They are not being activated when I turn On a water valve. So I am think maybe the Spring needs adjusting or some kind of pressure issue.
no crappy intro, no annoying banter, not overly explained, short, simple, straight to the point. i wish every video was like this. 11 out of 10!
Definately I'm with you all the way on that
This video is 8 years old and just saved my butt today in 2024. Thank you for the sharing of knowledge.

This guy is super !!!!! Thanks for all of your help. Was able to remove the carbon off the connector and she fired up. Once againTHANKS.
Thank you. My submersible pump wasn't working this morning. I watched your video and got it to start working again.

Thank you. You helped me get water going on a Sunday! I’ll replace pressure switch tomorrow but filing got me a shower today!
Thank you. Just watched your video and cleaned points. Now sorted my pressure switch.
Thanks again 😊👍 a few years back it was a bug between the contract. And the was a wow! Moment for me 😅
Thanks for the video! Got my pressure switch working again. Save a costly maintenance bill!
Glad to help.
Thank you for this. Just saved our family this evening
Thank you. Saved me a lot of time and anguish. Bug's had made nest in cap. 1 loose connection. Up and running again.
Just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Upon checking there was a dead lizard between contacts lol

Sounds like the air bladder in the tank is leaking or completely empty, or backflow problems out to the well from the tank.
@@MontclairsLair back flow would mean bad " foot" or check valve or lose connection at pump?

You could thread a male and maybe a washer through a sheet of plywood to hold your pressure switch for those kinds of videos.

A lizard or Frogs? They climb into pressure switches?
I've had a stink bug found twice between our contact points
There are several ways to run a pump without a pressure switch. A Flow switch, Mas Control, etc.
Is it wire to 220V or 110V??
220 for the well pump
My little Spring Broke in the Switch
Hello sir I have a same pressure switch but there is problem of cut off and cut in in one second what is the issue I don't understand please tell me and also give solution so I can save money thanks
That problem is beyond the scope of this video. Hire a professional well drilling contractor to solve your problem.
Nice
Can this type of pressure switch be used on an air compressor?
yes
No.
i have a harbor freight shallow well pump i have check all seals and it will only pump the water to the pump but wont pull inside pump
That's because it's a harbor freight pump. Take it back. Get a real pump. Follow the instructions.
Thank you!!!
what if max pressure reached but pump stays running? Tap cover of switch and it shuts off as it should?
Reduce max pressure setting to a pressure your pump can achieve. Or get a new switch.

Yeah I have a pressure switch that you can run manually but will not shut off and will not come on when pressure drops what's the issue
Tony Freeman I don't know. Hire a qualified well contractor.

My pump is not coming on, But the problem is not the pressure switch Contacts.
the issue with my P.Switch is the contacts are in the open position, in other words They
are not being activated when I turn On a water valve. So I am think maybe the Spring needs
adjusting or some kind of pressure issue.
