what a terrible coincidence, my JD baler let me down yesterday evening and i had to call in a friend of mine to finish getting my hay up before it rained. i blowed the end packing out of one of the lift gate cylinders, what a mess, hydraulic fluid everywhere.....pulled it off last night and dropped it off at Block & Chip (our local machine shop) last night at 10 and he had it fixed and ready to go at 8 am this morning (love those guys, they never let you down). will be putting the cylinder back on tonight and waiting for our next break in the weather to cut some more hay down. all the fields are ready to cut but the weather has not been in our favor.....50% rain chances every day for the rest of the month. Gotta love these dog days of summer.

Cole, your videos just get better and better - no joke! I have two (2) questions for you. (1) Why do you stack bales just one high? (2) What are the current market values of one round alfalfa bale and one round grass bale, assuming the buyer picks them up from your location. I have never, ever heard any farm channel ( and I follow a lot of farm channels ) mention a price per bale on the local market.

    • @SonneFarms

Hay again guys!! I agree Cole, bale cart is a bit laborious but its a worthwhile job. We used to round em up into load numbers so we never had a load of running round to catch em, of course though somebody had the job of rounding em up in the first place. I had to chuckle when the fox made his debut. It reminded me of a brit joke to do with Prince Charles and a fox hat, if you are bored look it up. Brian, how many bales has the baler done to date? a fair few I reckon if that roller has worn through. ...could that have contributed to the net wrap issue? A hay hiker eh, now that would be a great fleet addition and a fantastic new camera angle opportunity.
Take care guys and stay safe.

Luxury! Back in the day (the 70’s) I was nine and driving an old army truck, at first we didn’t have a loader, dad just like throw them on from the ground then stop me, stack’em, then load some more, stack’em, repeat until full. A couple of years later, we had a loader and we were contracting up to 50,000 square bales a summer in Australia up to 40°C. Hot, damn hot.

LOL! I laughed at Brian "conceiving the baby bale" because all last year we were trying to count and keep track of how many round bales we had for feed and there was one "baby" bale. It got to be a daily thing for us as we drove by and would come up with daily commentary directed at the baby and the momma bales. We farmer/rancher folk have our own very warped senses of humor right? LOL! That and well, you just have to do something to keep the daily grind FUN! Heres to the momma bales that occasionally grant us the opportunity for some fun during hay season!

Another great video. On a serious note, the John Deere shouldn't be overheating so much. Have you checked the head gasket or maybe clogged injectors? Those are pretty common causes. Of course, if that doesn't work, try filling the radiator with Busch Lite and drinking the coolant instead. It probably wont hurt the radiator and the coolant will taste a lot better than the Busch Lite.

When I haul hay for my friend, we end up going at least 25 miles to deliver the stuff. That gets monotonous. I had horses until this May (2021). We did round bales and I put in 20 foot gates at my farm just so I had room on either side. It paid off but then I decided to sell the horses. Time to go traveling to the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and other cool places ! If we are near by and you need help hauling hay, let me know. *grin*.
