thank you. I appreciate your genuine dad vibes.
This guy is the most wholesome surrogate dad I’ve ever dreamed of lol
Love this comment. :)
This video is exceptional - your tips were all completely on target. If you need to replace a screen this is the one to watch !!
Love the comment! Thanks for watching!
I saw this video a couple of times and ALL my questions/concerns were addressed. I installed the screen without issues. THANK YOU!
Glad it helped!
Thank you for this video. I was nervous having to replace my screen on a sliding door, but your video helped me get it done like a pro. Thank you!!!!!
Glad it helped
Very insightful! Now I did it myself rather than dragging a whole door to Ace!!
And it's a great skill to have! Screens need to be repaired all the time.
I’m looking after my parents’ place while they’re on vacation and their cats decided that it would be fun to completely shred the lower half of the screen door, so this might be a real lifesaver.
You may want to consider using the pet strong screen material. :)
Great video! Thank you. What helped me get the screen nice and flat is this: I did a long side to start, just as in this video. Then, giving lots of slack on the spline, I tacked down the opposite long side in a few spots with the spline to ensure a nice and flat screen. Then I came around the first short side. Then the second long side, popping out the tack points as I approached them. Then the final short side. Voila, new screen door.
Great tip! Thanks for watching.
I love the hometown friendliness of Ace. Always someone there to help.
Thanks Kris!
@@AceHardware Got screen replaced and installed a grille on the outside to prevent enthusiastic barn cats from reminding me that it is feeding time.
@@AceHardware how much does ace charge to do this if I take my sliding door in?
@@valkh83 they have gotten pricey last couple years.usually do my own but I was heading out for work and had them do it...with wheels was almost 100bucks. They do a good job though. So, if your not a handy person. Then they are a good source. Get you an old screen and just practice and repracticr
Very helpful video, saved a few bucks doing it myself!!
Glad it was helpful! It's a great skill to have, screens need to be replaced all the time it seems.
thank you . Great instructions.. off to Ace I go to get supplies to do this
Thank you very much! This was very helpful. Saved me time and money!! God bless
be sure that the spline goes all the way down. It can trick you and make you think its down when its only half way down, one reason to keep the screen loose and not tight, since it will tighten on its own as it goes down into the channel.
good tip!
Thank you. You make it look so easy but I’m sure it’s not. I’ll try and follow your instructions and do my very best. 😊
You can always bring you window frame into your local Ace and they offer a screen replace service.
I can't believe you did this on a folding table.
Great video explanation of screen replacement. Thank you
Amazing video. Ace is the best.
Super helpful video. Just did mine. Came out really good. Thanks for making this video.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks Lou. I did is myself with your help. I usually am no good at handyman stuff. Thanks!! I did myself and it only was $30 total.
Way to go Tom!
very easy to understand. thanks!
Very good explain thanks sir
Nice. It helped a ton.
Helpful. You should mention the two tools needed. Taping the screen down prior to start is a help.
Thanks for the feedback James!
Worked great, great instructions! Getting the screen door out was tricky though -- mine had a screw on the side of the door to adjust the wheel height, which allowed me to get it out

Thanks Dude! And Thanks Ace !
very helpful thank you
Thank you and wish me luck !
Best of luck!
You forgot to show the most important step of the process - how to take the screen door off from the frame.. that was most frustrating part for me
Yes
That you just lift up from the bottom pushing wheels upward and pull out. Some thin painters sticks help on this if doing alone
Easiest part
Have a dog run through it, works everytime.

Very good.
Thanks for the great information! Will tackle this in a couple of months once things warm up just before spring. Lou, I kind of feel like you must be from the Ohio/Indiana/Illinois area? I recognize your accent as being common in those locations. Always love stopping by my local Ace as opposed to the so-called "big box retailers". Thanks again.
Hi Justin,
You know your Midwest accents! Lou owns 2 Ace Hardware in Illinois. Thanks for watching!
The bottom part of the door. Is it the kicker?
Thanks a lot, man! I was struggling to press in the spline then came here and found out there are different spline diameters... How can I determine the correct diameter for the spline?
Hi Raymond,
If you have a piece of the old one you can match it up. Or use a tape measure and determine the width of the groove. You can always bring your spline into an Ace and they can provide the match! Hope this helps. :)
Having just done a replacement screen on my door, I'm surprised he didn't say to use clamps to hold the screen in place. It's nearly impossible to get the right level of tautness on the screen, especially for anything larger than a small window screen. Get yourself some clamps and the job will be much easier.
Thanks for sharing that tip!
Are you using the groove side to install Sir?
Put a piece of cardboard on the screen when cutting off the excess.
The spline tool should be wider so it can't slip off side of spline.
Take example with that size, how much do they charge in Ace Hardware?
Hi There, Price can vary by location. Here's a link to the store locator to find your local Ace: www.acehardware.com/store-locator
I have my door patio to be fix, the screen was rip off because of too old, what size of door spline you use?
Hi There,
Typically it's possible to use the same spline. If that's not the case, I suggest bringing the patio door in because the spline can vary by door. Your local Ace may also provide the service to rescreen it for you for a small fee.
Getting the spline out was a pain! It was so dry that it came out in crumbles. That alone took an hour.
Oh no! Hopefully the rest of the process was easier. We do have some Ace Hardware's that do screen repair as a store service. You can look up your local Ace and check store details to see if they offer this service.
There's no more time for cryin'
It's infuriating watching you press that in so easily. I'm using the spline that came with the door and it is a pain to get back in.
This guy looks like alternate universe Dan Patrick where shit didn’t work out.
