- Froggie Went A-Courting or King Kong Kitchie Kitchie Ki Me O is a traditional folk song. This is the clawhammer banjo version. I have a Two Finger Thumb Lead Banjo version and a Guitar version posted as well.
Froggie Went A Courting is an old traditional folk song. Known as, King Kong Kitchie Kitchie Ki Me O on the Harry Smith Anthology album.
King Kong Kitchie Kitchie Ki Me O (Froggie Went A Courting)-Lyrics:
[G] Froggie went a courting and he did [D] ride
[G] King kong kitchie kitchie [D] ki-me-o
[G] With a sword and a pistol by his [D] side
[G] King kong kitchie kitchie [D] ki-me-o [G]
[G] Ki-mo-ke-mo ki-mo-ke
[C] Way down yonder in a hollow [D] tree
[G] An owl and a bat and a bumble [D] bee
[G] King kong kitchie kitchie [D] ki-me-o [G]
He rode ’til he came to miss mousie’s door
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
And there he knelt upon the floor
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
Ki-mo-ke-mo ki-mo-ke
Way down yonder in a hollow tree
An owl and a bat and a bumble bee
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
He took miss mouse upon his knee
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
And he said little mouse will you marry me
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
Ki-mo-ke-mo ki-mo-ke
Way down yonder in a hollow tree
An owl and a bat and a bumble bee
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
Miss mouse had suitors three or four
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
And there they came right in the door
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
Ki-mo-ke-mo ki-mo-ke
Way down yonder in a hollow tree
An owl and a bat and a bumble bee
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
They grabbed mr. frog and began to fight
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
In the hollowed tree it was a terrible night
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
Ki-mo-ke-mo ki-mo-ke
Way down yonder in a hollow tree
An owl and a bat and a bumble bee
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
Mr. frog brought the suitors to the floor
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
With the sword and the pistol he showed all four
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
Ki-mo-ke-mo ki-mo-ke
Way down yonder in a hollow tree
An owl and a bat and a bumble bee
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
They went to the park on the very next day
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
And left on their honeymoon right away
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
Ki-mo-ke-mo ki-mo-ke
Way down yonder in a hollow tree
An owl and a bat and a bumble bee
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
Now they live far off in a hollow tree
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
Where they now have wealth and children three
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
Ki-mo-ke-mo ki-mo-ke
Way down yonder in a hollow tree
An owl and a bat and a bumble bee
King kong kitchie kitchie ki-me-o
I'm digging the beard. Loving the music!
Thanks Michele! A fun song to play!
Very catchy song, I really like this one.
Thank you! So much fun to sing!
This is so good 😭😭😭
So good Dan
Thank you so much!
Fun folk tune! That's a pretty groovy banjo you got there! Along with the gruesome courtship, I'm not sure how I feel about inter-species relationships that produce children... so I decided "Froggie" and "Miss Mouse" are their names. cheers!
Thank you! I`m glad you like it!
Very nice one Dan.👍
Thank you so very much!
What a catchy lovely song I discovered with D.Watson and that works so well on banjo !!! You nailed it Dan !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I prefer the clawhammer version .... even before listening to the two fingers version !!!!!! :)
Thanks Elisa! A fun song to sing along with any instrument or just accapella!
Just love those frog songs and this one is quite lovely, not so familiar this side of the pond though. You definitely do it justice with your singing and wonderful banjo playing
Thanks Dany! Its such a cute song and so much fun to sing!
ha ha...I have been waiting for this one, Dan. As a kid I had this on a 78rpm record with a little picture book that had the stories of all the songs. Thank you so much for doing this!
That musta been the Chubby Parker version you heard! That 78rpm record is probably worth 100,000,000 million dollars today! Thanks very much Tom!
@@DanDDirges should have held on to it...ha ha
Great intro! Nice banjo work! My favorite version of FROGGIE.
Thanks Stephen! Its a bit of a tongue twister just like, Willie The Weeper and Old Lady and the Devil but fun to sing!
This is such a refreshing and charming rendition, Dan !!
That`s very nice to say so! Thanks so much Ralf!
Sorry I keep showing up late! Just love to hear you play and sing this one, Dan...and sounds so good on that clawhammer! I would never be able to remember that kingkong part!
Thanks Nancy! I know you could do it! I thought it was impossible to do it to at first but our brains are so good at learning.
Nice job
Thank you!
I love this version too, Dan!
Thank you so much Cristina!

Fantastic rendition!! Enjoyed very much! I covered this song a few years ago, but I did the version where Froggy dies at the end. I never heard of that King Kong title. Very interesting! Cheers :))
