Thank you for this! I'm just starting of in Daz3D in the hope to implement the program in the future in my workflow. You had me the moment you said: "there are a lot of people out there who spend 20 minutes on videos that don't teach you anything." I've spent too much time grinding through the ocean of tutorials in the hope to find the gems that really *teach you*.
Informative. As it stands I've been primarily using DAZ as a character creator then exporting those assets to either Maya or Blender for posing an animation. Mainly blender because I prefer real-time rendering and that's basically what blender's eevee does. Interestingly nearly all my characters are originally models from other sources that I used a 3DScanning/retopology software to convert into morphs for the DAZ figures. I saw this is a quick and shortcut alternative to trying to rig the models from scratch myself, that or the original model's rig was absolutely broken. Ultimately my use of DAZ was to bypass weight-painting.
I stopped buying any pose packs after spending virtually the same amount of time adjusting them to fit the body type I was using as creating the pose from scratch. You have to be using the exact model they used without clothing and not using any morphs otherwise you need to adjust a lot to prevent clothing overlapping, body parts sticking into each other, etc.
I don't use Iray at all. I use 3delight for everything and photoshop. Faster and more fun. You are correct about animation. it's painful. Iclone is also great for animation and even doing large scenes.
Very well said :) I would probably add that when it comes to Daz... 11. Limit yourself to a budget of no more than a hundred bucks to pick up an environment, a good model (the ones released by Daz themselves), and a few prop collections, then just focus on learning how to light scenes. I spent way too much money in the early days accumulating all of these assets, focusing on composition, posing, buying premade scenes etc. But all my renders were utter trash until I figured out how to light.
I also spent a little too much, but most of that was during a big sale. I was surprised that I was getting bundles for the price of the basic asset, and I grabbed a gift card at 25% off, saving even more. One thing I have learned to do is to put the assets I want into a wishlist, then I put a note as to what the price is, and when. I would update it often and get to know what a good price on the assets are. A lot of those assets are for a project that I doubt I would get to until next year, so I am using the wishlist as a holding place for the items and slowly adding the assets if they seem to be at a good price. I also joined their platinum club that keeps the prices lower on items, and give out 2 monthly coupons. But I don't jump onto those coupons at the beginning of the month when the coupons come out, waiting for something in my wishlist to go on sale that fits the coupons. I am convinced they drop sales at the beginning of the month hoping people use up the coupons on higher prices.
@@VIKDR1 great strategy! I tend to use the wishlist quite a bit. Anything I'm not desperately needing goes on there and Daz generally have sales after sales so you can usually pick up what you need for cheap if you have a little patience :-)
Thanks for the sound advice, lots of things to look out for. I was hoping you were going to say what Daz does really well, suitable applications. I am a beginner at Daz but well experienced in Photoshop and was hoping to drop Daz models into still shots.
I got into Daz because I wanted to animate, I think its pretty decent nowadays, also Ive got the new 3090, it´s a 🚀 you can render a high quality frame within 6 minutes, much faster if you do it in layers
@@RuniDjurhuus You mean backround and then the models in different renders? If yes, then yeah I have. But I'm not sure how to do it with HDRI's because if you remove walls the lighting and shadows looks wrong in the final product if you get what I mean
Oof, that's my next benchmark. Working with a RTX 2070 SUPER atm, which isn't terrible, but now that im really getting heavy into rendering, it needs to be better :P
@@Allexstrasza yeah I know what you mean, the lighting looks fake when rendering in layers, I never work in layers, so a 25 minute short im working on now will be finished sometime next year
Informative; seems we went through the same learning process. I'd add that DAZ is a great way to get access to Iray. Coming from Renderman 3Delight would be the obvious choice but messing with MDL is fun too. ;-)
Adding to some of this I would also say if you want renders to come out looking good, a photography tutorial will be more helpful then anything else. Learn how they light their subjects and what they do in the post process. Daz's official tutorials are less than useless, especially the ones you buy, they are really just infomercials on other products. I would also say for the store never ever buy full price for anything, get what you can in the free department and find trust worthy third parties you can trust. Don't just look at the picture really look at what comes with the product and what the product can do.
Sounds like a serious investment in time and possibly other resources... On the other hand, it would be more productive than just sitting around watching UA-cam videos. Thanks for the video! (And it may be a good thing I like research.)
Thanks for this series of videos! Being using daz for many years now, but at a very amateur level. Getting the knowledge from an advance user is very appreciated. Keep doing it please!
just getting started using daz studio, having a hard time learning but gotta say im having fun. the assets on the store can be very expensive especially the pro bundles. but the quality speak for itself and yes, im starting to learn because of visual novels, the passion of writing get the better of me to try and make my own. daz studio store is absolutely filled with female clothings and a sexy one at that, i am having an absolute hard time to get a male clothing outfit that include more than just 2 or 3 clothing choices (casual everyday outfits)
@@GameDeveloperTraining I've noticed that a lot of the sexy or suggestive clothes, if paired correctly with other pieces and retexturing them, you can make very normal and casual outfits. i too struggle with that over sexualization of models but i learned how to turn it around with key pieces.
For a minute I thought the lack of a decent manual on how to actually use Daz was just my imagination, because every time I brought it up in forums and the like, people acted like I was asking for the impossible, however you can find good instruction as well as well outlined courses on practically any major software out there. Although it should be noted that there are several software packages out there seemingly aimed at hobbyists and independents like DAZ ( vocaloid I'm looking at you ) that are so slight in instructions on their use and that have such a steep learning curve you have to wonder who their target market actually was to begin with. Number two is also a really major point. Even the best computers today quickly become dated, and Daz is a really resource hungry program unless you are doing the simplest of renders, and assets and with higher polygon counts and 4K Hd are only making it moreso. Unless you a tech chaser always staying up to date with the latest graphics cards and the like you can quickly find out that a new update of Daz has taken you out of the game.
Thank you, I was debating whether to buy AMD radeon pro w5700 or quadro rtx 4000, since I really like Daz and planing on using it a lot I’ll get the quadro.
Thanks for the review. I just learned of Daz3D via Wikipedia. I'm still using a almost 30 year old version of RayDream😅🤨 Seems Blender is the way to go.
The point about pose sets is sadly true. It's rather ironic considering how absurdly conservative they are about nudity on the site. LOL The range of clothing sets have improved quite a bit, especially with Genesis 8. Sure, there's still no shortage of short skimpwear, but they do have a decent selection of other styles too. It's still heavily slated toward womenswear though. Genesis 9 is pushing towards a unisex figure, not that helps much...
Hello! I want to use daz 3d mainly for character creation only, and export them to blender for further edits, will the hardware requirements like nvidia graphics still applies if I won't use it to render? Like, do i still need the gpu to run daz 3d????
this is so true. I wish I new when I started also and even after 6 years in daz I still don't know everything. also on the animation side i bought everything for animation to just become disappointed I use iClone for animation. also i cant even think how many millions of hours i spent on UA-cam just learning daz. also if you want to save the many files in daz on a drive other than C (recommended) what pain that was. Great video
as you said the animation potential of daz is not good, so is it possible to use the assets from daz to make animation with another program? I hope i have explained my question correctly. If i have to say it otherwise, i have invested 3-4 months and not small amount of money into daz and i plan to use it for the renders at least (visual novel/sex games), so if the animations are shit i either have to try to do the best i could using daz for them (toster porn) or find a way to connect the assets to another program or something cause i dont wanna learn a new program from the beginning (if i have to switch completely and do the renders and the animation on new program with new/different assets). The question may sound stupid to someone with more knowledge, but have in mind that before daz the only conection i had to 3d software was using photoshop to remove acne from my pics when i was in high school :D
@@GameDeveloperTraininghello, I know this is a 2y old video but I was wondering something similar. I have no prior experience and only just downloaded Daz Studio and have been binging your videos. Thanks for this extremely useful content btw! So my question is what is the best way to create a game (vn) if you do want to include *those* animations? Is it best to use mostly Daz for the normal renders and then export into a different software like blender to create animations? How would that work if they are in a scene, do you export the whole environment? Or if you start out would it be better to just do the whole process in blender from start to finish? @@daanw6270 I recommend deciding what you want to do before you choose the software. If you plan to have animations in your game, just don't use Daz for anything. Daz productions deliberately make it difficult to use their assets in other more versatile apps such as iClone. Also it's far easier animating a character that is native to the software that you're doing the animations in. Blender, Maya, iClone all have their own custom character creation, and although they take a bit more time and effort to learn, the results will be far better.
@@GameDeveloperTraining Thank you for the quick response! I will consider that carefully then. If I want to support you in the future, what method is best for you? Have a great day!
I was kinda suprised when figuring out, that DAZ actually cannot use CPU as main computing base. So, I have now I9 proccesor with 5.5 GHz clocking, but my renders are slow as hell, because my office-based nvidia :D I mean, it is a bit hackwork as for example ciname 4D can actually determine, what perifery can provide most computing power, but DAZ cannot do it and I did not even found way to force it to do so. So, In next month I am about to buy RTX card, bacause of this free software :D Cheers
And the note about shop is very hadnfull and you guys better listen. It happened to me like three times that I just bought package and then find ou it is just morphs textures pack or it does not contain what you think it should. So before you buy anything, READ DESCRIPTION VERY CAREFULLY!
Hello mate I’m not sure if you answer tech support questions here. I recently got Daz Studio because I want to get into 3D art. Immediately I learned how much the tech support and instructions Daz provides are little to no help at all for a beginner. The website says due to the pandemic it could take up to 4 to 6 weeks for a response to a submitted help ticket. The problem I’m having is I can’t get a preset morph I purchased to show up on the figure it is supposed to be compatible with. I select fe figure then go to shaping and double click the preset. Nothing happens. The figure does not display the morph. I’m trying to figure out a solution to this problem on my own but if you or someone in the comments section can help I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
Shaping is usually applied via a slider. Watch my video on importing content to ensure that the products meta-data has been added to your library and then it should appear. No I don't offer tech support :P
Great video im brand new to this program. verry informative . The one question i have is ...can i export as fbx obj or any other format to zbrush or Blender .Thanks .Peace and Freedom!
My only comment is about point nine, but this could be a more recent thing as there have been some good "everyday" packs in the last few months. Are the bulk of the pose packs more aligned with pin-ups? Yes, but the more mundane poses are becoming easier to find.
Hi, Do have a good link to make a IK chain for legs in DAZ? I understand how to create the chain from pelvis to the feet but how to drop and keep the figure (feet) on the floor when moving the hip... Missing something? Thank you for your channel for sure
@Yash Saindane Well.. what you make character creator is more akin to making something in Photoshop or with pencils and pens it is yours your creation. Anything you make with Daz unless it is completely custom you're going to have to pay for in the future or have licensed each thing you used and if you haven't licensed it cam be a big problem. I'm heavy in on Daz and it's really unfortunate that that's true. I'll probably have to scratch remake a lot of the characters in my game but at least Daz has gottn me to a point where I know what I want and perhaps I can get there on my own with variations obvious enough that it isn't from Dad. I don't know actually... Once you make enough changes. I actually honestly don't know how they can always say this this is from that and that's from this as there is so much possibility for variation...
My old system seems to run Daz and lray just fine. It's got a 1GB Radeon. Little bit pokey in the live view trying to move around so I only use it for the render pane. Takes about an hour or so to render at ultra HD. There are lots of freebies that are good starting points. I usually end up tweaking everything anyway. Like he said, even when you pay good money you can get disappointed.
The real question is: Is there a market for non-sexy stuff? I know I usually just make the stuff myself but am I the exception as opposed to the rule? Is there a lack of non-sexy stuff because no one wants it or because no one makes it, becasue sexy sells? Just a thought.
Yes sex sells that's just stating the bleeding obvious, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a market for other content. People are crying out for day-to-day poses and outfits but Daz productions QA team consider that stuff "Too boring" for the most part. Either way my point is valid that IF you don't want sexy stuff, you're going to waste a lot of time trying to find it.
@@GameDeveloperTraining I really meant that as an honest question! I wasn't being a d-bag! Your point is completely valid! I'm a generalist and have been messing with the idea of making stuff for G8 and G9 for a while. For example I've been mucking with sculpting super high res displacement maps for things like face and lip detail, or hands. I just haven't been able to spend enough time on it to pick a workflow I like. But really if people are starving for non-sexy stuff I have no problem doing that. I just didn't know if enough people actually wanted it or not. Cus like you said it really is mostly sexy/adult stuff (which I also don't have a problem with. lol) But really It was the way you named that section. It sparked a real "Chicken or the egg" thought for me.
@@hardwire666too it is indeed. Many of us who want to create natural, non-sexualised images are always asking for more resources but that in some way triggers people who are creating adult content. They seem to take it as an insult that not everyone wants the same thing as they do, or perhaps they are worried that the people pumping out adult content weekly will stop in favour of the more mundane.
just keep in mind...the RTX 30* series is currently NOT supported. IRAY itself has the functionality already, but the version which DAZ3d is using...is not. Therefore there is currently no need for daz users to upgrade there GPU until it is supported (maybe in the next 3 month but this is a rumour only...)
also a big big file storage drive I am nearly out of room on C drive I am at a loss :C I have tried to move to another drive but a mere amateur like myself I made a mess nothing worked so I might have doubled up on everything :C I am waiting for my son to come home to try & see if he can as he's tech fingers crossed any advice is welcome I have tried watching how to do it but as soon as the lesson begins the magic roundabout music starts playing knowledge of a five year old 😉
I find the UI is a cluttered mess. You need to be a Boyscout with GPS to find your way around. Content is not easy to install and to actually find what you need can be nerv wrecking, time consuming and plain frustrating. The Content management is unnecessarily compartmentalized in dozens of similar confusing Interface components which do not always do the things you are expecting them to do. I consider Poser to be easier to use than Daz Studio. But I don't use either or the other. I use something else. Good Video about DS. It may put off some creative Artists but geeks do love a challenge. Aren't they. Thanks for the honest vid.
Thanks for the video... Can we change the model proportion? Like make him/her a little bit taller... Or make his/her breast a little bit bigger or smaller... Or make his/her head a little bit wider... Etc.
Huh. Honestly, I always thought this was character creation software kind of like Adobe fuse, that's the vibe I got from the marketing. I don't even know what this is now, it just looks like blender but worse.
Im new, trying to learn Daz. If its bad at animations and blender is better, why not just use blender? What is Daz good for? Does blender not do still renders? Am I wasting my time with Daz and should I just learn blender? I want to learn to do animations and still renders. Thanks
Daz is just easier to use for rendering still images. It's interface is tuned specifically to make it easier to use because it only does one thing. It's not designed for creating assets, which Blender is.
im using 4.20 and I still dont know how to open the damn file I have download from internet. Their website suck, their software is the worst 3d software.

You probably didn't import the files correctly or at all into daz library
Great video im brand new to this program. verry informative . The one question i have is ...can i export as fbx obj or any other format to zbrush or Blender .Thanks .Peace and Freedom!
Yes DS has the ability to export as both OBJ and FBX
@@GameDeveloperTraining Thanks
for answering my question.
Thank you
My only comment is about point nine, but this could be a more recent thing as there have been some good "everyday" packs in the last few months. Are the bulk of the pose packs more aligned with pin-ups? Yes, but the more mundane poses are becoming easier to find.
Spot on.
Hi, Do have a good link to make a IK chain for legs in DAZ? I understand how to create the chain from pelvis to the feet but how to drop and keep the figure (feet) on the floor when moving the hip... Missing something?
Thank you for your channel for sure
Thank you very helpful.
my problem is that i want to create something for daz3d and it never really works =( (the impornt)
character creator or daz studio ?
@@hardwire666too it’s all good. It’s really hard to tell the difference online. It’s a divisive topic
@@GameDeveloperTraining The fact that "non-sexy" is divisive is mind blowing.
Don't be like me and run Iray on your cpu for a month before you realize you didn't check your gpu as the preferred device in the render settings.
Ouch
Iam like You. Or at least similar. Had both selected for a week.
just keep in mind...the RTX 30* series is currently NOT supported. IRAY itself has the functionality already, but the version which DAZ3d is using...is not.
Therefore there is currently no need for daz users to upgrade there GPU until it is supported (maybe in the next 3 month but this is a rumour
only...)
RTX may not be supported but the 3080 still has more Cuda cores and thus will still be faster afaik
how do you convert the duf file to an obj file to print figures looks like it can't be printed
😎
also a big big file storage drive I am nearly out of room on C drive I am at a loss :C I have tried to move to another drive but a mere amateur like myself I made a mess nothing worked so I might have doubled up on everything :C I am waiting for my son to come home to try & see if he can as he's tech fingers crossed any advice is welcome I have tried watching how to do it but as soon as the lesson begins the magic roundabout music starts playing knowledge of a five year old 😉
I find the UI is a cluttered mess.
There are some characters i want to use for a comic series , how do i go about buying those characters for ownership, mostly the elves
You would have to Talk to the vendor about that.
I wish I knew that Iray render costs lots of time and I had to pay for new GPU.
I'm sick of it not responding at this point most of the time.
Thanks for the video...
Can we change the model proportion? Like make him/her a little bit taller... Or make his/her breast a little bit bigger or smaller... Or make his/her head a little bit wider... Etc.
Yes. They are called morphs
Huh. Honestly, I always thought this was character creation software kind of like Adobe fuse, that's the vibe I got from the marketing. I don't even know what this is now, it just looks like blender but worse.
It's definitely worse
This doesn’t seem to be helping daz, should I just use blender or maya instead just making them sound like a much better choice over daz.
Depends on your ability level. Daz Studio is an entry level 3D program but ultimately limited. If you can grasp Blender or Maya they are far superior
Good content!!
Glad you think so!
Ok ok... Nevermind!
Need good hardware😁 that 2gb graphic card creaked like and old house 😆😆 open unity on the side took about 10 min. Waiting to see smoke😆😆😆😆😆😆
im using 4.20 and I still dont know how to open the damn file I have download from internet. Their website suck, their software is the worst 3d software.
