that face tracking article really shouldn't be broadly reported until we know they're not talking out their ass, its just a 3D model, not even a prototype.
I don't necessarily think it shouldn't be reported on. Even things that are bad or are suspicious should be reported on in order to put eyes on behavior that is not okay. However, we must remain skeptical and critic if they do anything stupid or out of line.
The Apple Vision Pro is not $3000...It's $3,500 and will actually be closer to $4,000 after taxes. That's absolutely absurd, even for their first go at it.
Apple can't go much cheaper. They have an entire device ecosystem that they rely on to stay in business. If they started giving MacOS functionality to Vision pro and refined the form factor it would single handedly destroy them.
definitely imo is to make it seem like a luxury item so the probably underpowered 1000 ish version will seem cheap in comparison at the very least it is them trying to broaden the industry to mainstream use
Removing scoreboard is absurdly stupid, I don't see the point at all. Whole reason I bought and continued to play games was due to achievements. I made it a mission that every game I played I 100%
I primarily use my Q3 to watch movies and videos. I’ve tried a Vision Pro and whilst it is amazing, I couldn’t justify spending an extra 3k for it. The Q3 is superb for films.
12:30 ... apart from that, the overall downloads have increased in 2024. Looking only at the christmas day and putting out the bold headline " -27% for Meta App " is kinda picky and even misleading.
Heres to hoping that face tracking can become more accessible. I have the quest pro, but metas drivers are highly unstable (let alone for the quest pro) Looking forward to the Asus headset, we'll see how it does (or if it comes out lol)
Thanks for reporting on the potential Asus ROG VR headset. QLED and eye/face tracking is what I'm looking for in a new headset (especially as a replacement to my Quest Pro). I'm really excited to see what Asus comes up with. I hate the peeling of the controllers and I'm starting to get back into Beat Saber and I don't find the Quest Pro controllers as responsive as my Quest 3 or Index but I fully enjoy the beautiful QLED displays with local dimming and rich colors and the upgraded audio that almost no one talks about. The bass can go much deeper than either Quest 2 or 3 and even though the Valve Index is probably the best all around for audio, I still prefer the deeper bass of the Quest Pro, makes listening to music and movies in VRChat much nicer and I don't feel like I'm missing out.
So, my question about the Asus headset is, if they are shipping with the Meta OS is, will we be able to access the apps that we have already bought via the quest store? For me this is the only MAJOR pull that would draw me to buy a different headset.
Big yes, that's the thing they're trying to do, be the android of VR , but with android XR coming idk what's gonna happen Maybe ios and android situation? But both having original and third party manufacturers?
@@FXV56 android XR will likely overtake MHOS, but that's still years away. MHOS is current and refined enough to be utilized and devices are already being built with it in mind. Samsungs headset will be the first to use AndroidXR as a potential mainstream device, which means bugs to sort through and refinement will still be needed.
@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 A lot of VR users hope that happens but knowing Google I just don't see it being a reality. They're gonna want instant success from a community that has been burned many times and as a result is cautious around new products and platforms. When that success doesn't happen, they may want to pull the plug like a lot of their other projects. The only way I can see it taking off is if they push VR into social and work platforms and make it something innovative, fun or both. The fact that Mark Zukerburg asked in a humble manner to Google for Playstore access and them refusing means Google is only thinking in dollar signs. While that is true for just about all major companies, Mark has shown many times a personal interest into VR losing billions of dollars on it. Google will make this VR/MR/XR product with a lot of competitive features, stop updating it after sales die down and then finally cancel support. EDIT: I've seen some comments saying the Google XR OS could come to non Meta Standalone headsets that are already on the market and that would be fucking huge, IF Google finds a fair way to make some money from it and support it long term.
achievements are such a big part of gaming for me. I'd already moved my vr gaming from quest 2's OS to steam but I will literally never buy another game/product from meta. I'm probably overreating because im in a generally angry mood right now but I see almost no reason to buy from them now. There should be so much more uproar about this, they're removing features that we as consumers have bought and paid for
I think they removed the achievements app because they don't want you to see how little your friends are playing Quest games by not seeing many achievements.
I wonder if I could figure out a way of making a 3d print and fit some eye and face tracking onto a headset myself. Its already possible to print and assemble dirt cheap super high quality body trackers, maybe face tracking is possible too. To bad I am shit at coding and wouldnt be able to make software for it.
There is actually already DIY projects that do this that are entirely open source. Eyetrack VR for example is one that I'm personally planning on doing a project video on in the near future :)
Knowing that people are still experiencing VR on Fresnel lenses mortifies me greatly. I can't even say the 3S is worth an upgrade from the 2. The amount of times I've actually needed passthrough or have seen it integrated into a game that I played is probably 1% of my experience.
Fresnel was completely fine for VR for over a decade. The Quest 3S will be fine, as will its users be. If you're already on a Pancake based system, stop worrying about how others are enjoying VR. You are not superior
Scoreboard systems can be problematic due to cheaters. Granted cheaters _are_ the extreme minority of players, but they do tend to also be the most prominent due to being listed near or at the top of high score lists. I don't know if that's why they removed it. Even if it was the case it doesn't seem justified.
The Reason the downloads of Meta Horizon app are falling is probably because after a bit of playing stand alone game MANY people start playin PCVR tit hence the new Steam VR numbers, everyone I know has a quest is pretty Blown away when they see how much better games look and run through PC streaming, also the number of VR Mods for flat PC games has been steadily increasing and they are SO much FUN
I just got the Apple Vision Pro yesterday. Finally convinced myself to try it for pcvr (sim racing) no controllers. And I have to say the visuals are great. The quest 3 would give me some eye strain after a few races and avp doesn’t. Have to have a really good home network for it to work Using alvr, I have no complaints other than the price tag. Was going to get pimax but we all know that nightmare train 😅
It was a strategic move by Mark before the new headsets are released so then he can now say that these are better than the Apple Vision Pro. The first statement was to keep the Q3 sales up, but now he has to retract the statement and say it’s better at something so that he can then come out with a new headset and go look we’ve beat them
Using a apple vision pro and mq3 is kind of like using a Rolex and a smart watch. The Rolex, apple vision pro looks nicer inside and out but the smart watch, mq3 has more to offer. I remember back when I was in high school I was hella into wrist watches. Had all the fancy ones worth hundreds. Absolutely loved how amazing they looked. Eventually I got my first smart watch, the gear s3 frontier and was completely amazed by all the features it had. Especially the ability to use tap pay! After using the gear s3 frontier for a few months I decided to wear my normal watch and It felt so bland. All it did was tell time. I felt stripped of all the capabilities my Gear s 3 frontier had to offer.
I don't want eye tracking, it's a bit black mirror for my taste and eventually will be used to ensure you've watched every single moment of their adverts, before allowing you any further.
Meta needs to let Apple boost their sales and somehow make a Meta games playable on AVP. (crossover, metal, GPTK, whiskey, etc) and allow their controllers. I have the surreal link controllers for AVP and it might replace my Meta Quest 3 for PCVR if it weren't for lack of all the standalone VR/MR games store Meta has.
Lenovo reminds me more of gaming than Asus. I don't really play standalone games, so the Meta achievements don't matter to me. I do love my Steam achievements though.
