    You’re definitely not alone in your nostalgia for love live. I got into the franchise through the OG game as well and it really was fun while it lasted. The community was somewhere where I found a place that I could be myself and express my “weirder/nerdy” interests because we were all into this silly idol franchise. As an introvert that meant a lot me. Some of my closest friends I met through the Love Live community. It’s crazy to think how a franchise that had that much of an impact on my life so quickly self destructed.
    Though still a niche, Love Live was EVERYWHERE in anime and idol spaces at one point. You couldn’t escape it. People forget how big the fandom was, especially in Japan. Now it feels like a fading memory. To be a part of the fandom when it was at its peak popularity vs. now is SUCH a stark contrast. I miss being excited for new songs, card releases and anime content. It sucks it had to fizzle out this way.
    I think the impact Love Live had on idol culture and 2010s anime culture is often understated. It wasn’t the first, but it definitely paved the way for a lot of successful rhythm games and idol franchises. I’ll stay hopeful that in the future maybe they’ll invest into a new game or anime that’s actually worthwhile. They fumbled the bag so bad 😭

    Strictly speaking, Shizuku Osaka, Emma and Kanata Konoe (as well as he sister Haruka) were not new idols. They were N idols in the School Idol Festival mobile game and existed long before Aquors. Emma didn't have a last name, and only gained the surname Verde sometime later. Apparently the trio won the popularity poll for N characters, and they were then chosen to be idols in Nijigasaki anime. The fans who played the mobile game literally made them the main idols for the Nijigasaki anime.
    Speaking of the Nijigasaki anime, it also included a few other N idols. Some of them were voiced, such as Jennifer, Kasane Hasekura, Sakuya Kurobane, Sakura Kurobane, Christina and if I'm not mistaken Rakshata, among others. There were also a few other N idols that made a cameo but were not voiced, such as Yuri Mido, Sana Yuki, Tsurugi Kadota, Yuuka Kirihara, Coco, Fumi plus several others.

    • @Chaimelo
      @Chaimelo  5 місяців тому +3

      @mapl3mage yes I know they were already in the game. I actually had in my script originally explaining that Nikigasaki was already in the game, but explaining that there were N cards that were just random characters at launch, then turned into idols just seemed like excess info. Coming at the video considering some might watch that didn't play the game, I wanted to make it as cut-and-dry, easy to understand as possible. Thank you for summing it up here, though! I didn't mean to gloss over them the way I did, but seeing as the video ended up being 20-something minutes long I had to trim it a bit haha

    6:47 I think it's important to mention that SIFAS was NOT closed for sif2. SIFAS was a financial failure and was on life support since the 2nd anniversary. Due to players leaving when it was released because of the disappointment of it not being a rhythm game, players getting confused over the teambuilding, and JP players quitting as a form of protest over the Lanzhu arc, the game suffered tremendously and it became obvious when KLab sold the game to MyNet, which was infamous for shutting down games (Which is ironic because they kept the game alive for 2 more years and were pretty generous too.) It was very pay-to-win since you NEEDED powerful cards to proceed with the game and play harder levels before they nerfed the story songs and most of those powerful cards were the limited fes cards, and later the obvious cash grab party cards which were also limited. Event URs were also usually useless. The whole era of SIFAS was very cash grabby and was also around the time SIF stopped doing sets and only released lims. The failure of SIFAS could be a whole video by itself tbh

    • @Chaimelo
      @Chaimelo  2 місяці тому +1

      I appreciate the insight! I think I mentioned it, but I admittedly didn't really understand SIFAS and didn't really play much besides checking in to see the nice artwork. All I know is that it closed and essentially left love live fans with one option, which was miracle live, which was total ass. Also, I'm so curious what the Lanzhu arc is that you mentioned, I need the lore lmao

    • @curepinkie1637
      @curepinkie1637 2 місяці тому +1

      @Chaimelo the lanzhu arc was the entire season 2 of the main story and Lanzhu was an antagonist and basically forced the club to disband and formed her own idol club so that the niji idols would join her. they didn't and turned into a whole rival arc but anyways the jp fans hated lanzhu and the fact that the club was split up so bad that they deleted the game out of protest and the numbers dropped by a huge margin to the point where KLab sold off the game.

    It’s just so sad to see such a monumental game got ridiculed like that, I’m still very salty lol. I had played the game since its release and had amazing time with it until the pair UR came out, completely wiping away the usual “sets”. To me, those sets were one of the biggest charm, it’s always exciting to guess who’s the other pair, and it’s so satisfying getting the 2 URs from the same set to see their splash art… I miss that aspect so dearly
    Though the SIF rhythm game ended tragically, the franchise is still alive and well, with so many upcoming projects and exciting stuffs. And Link like is actually a decent game with love poured into it (and on top of that the cards are gorgeous) so I think having such doomed outlook is not really reasonable? I think

    The initial ssr art is so weird because they were all just taken from magazine scans. Re-using art from other aspects of the franchise like merchandise or SIFAC was a MASSIVE problem and it was so sif could pump out constant 9+ ur sets quickly near the end of its life. It got so bad that the initial liella ssrs were literally just screenshots from the anime.

    • @ianbatplushie
      @ianbatplushie 5 місяців тому +3

      Also I will say it became much easier to build an encore team in the last couple years of sif's life, they would have "wakuboxes" every few months with tons of lim reruns that had only sr+ cards, 10% ur rates and also gave out tickets that let you pick ANY lim from the box. Sometimes you would get one of these tickets for EVERY ten pull you did meaning every pull was a guaranteed lim UR of your choice. Idolizing became easier with seals, often they'd also have boxes you could pull for skill up fodder on with G while the wakuboxes were up. By the end of sifs life I had a full yohane encore team with high skill levels and i never spent anything within those past few years (or if i did and i forgot it was very little)
      Now after this there was STILL powercreep with even stronger encore team cards. And encore is still impossible to understand to a very casual player whos not in the sif discord. It was an extremely weird and broken time- it was fun if you were in it but absolutely alienating if you weren't. And yeah those style of boxes absolutely still sucked for f2p, your best chance was to hope they got reran in a wakubox ticket later

    • @Chaimelo
      @Chaimelo  5 місяців тому +2

      @@ianbatplushie Thanks for your insight! Yeah, the later boxes and rates were good but I think that contributed to even more power creep. I was able to get a few lims and was starting to build an encore team, but even then they just kept releasing stronger and stronger cards to get the people who already had encore teams to whale more. it became a bit pointless.
      And the art situation is crazy. I really think they knew what they were doing and didnt want to put more resources into art than they needed to, in the end.

    I slowly dropped off playing SIF around the time SIFAS came out, the next time I really heard much about the franchise was the whole SIF2 disaster. It's really a shame that the series is in such a rough spot right now, it was the only idol anime I really liked and I got pretty attached to the characters (Nozomi, Rin, Hanayo, Kanan, and Hanamaru, my loves). Hopefully the situation gets a little better in the future.

    Sif was my fav childhood games back in 2015 and i got back in to it in 2020 again . Honestly, Love live was the only reason keeping me sane during the shitty high school years and the pandemic (now i know it does not have the most realistic stories about high school, still their songs about not giving up and following your dreams , although it may sound corny , inspired me to keep me going forward ) 😭 i have a very strong attachment to love live, it helped me through my depression and i still am very grateful for the franchise for existing
    (i watched the anime for the first time in early 2020, and sunshine's story especially really spoke out the me, the fact that aqours and chika still kept striving forward despite failing to save their school and feeling that they had lost everything , i felt so emotional in the scene before their wbnw performance😭😭)
    love live has been a huge part of my life and to see my favourite game from childhood just disappear, makes me sad [i cannot even redownload it to simply play again, its completelygone] (tbf, i did feel like sif was starting to fall when they stopped making ur pairs, still i didnt expect them to completely shut down the game entirely, on top of that make a new shitty game with absolutely no consideration for the fans and purely making it a cash grab is sooo.. ugh) to rub salt on the wound i couldnt even give my final goodbye to the game before it shut down because i had my final exams that time and didnt find about it until after my exams finished :.(
    however i like to end things on a positive note and would like to say that im thankful for love live for existing (esp μ's and aqours, special thank u to honoka and chika my fav orange girlies 🧡) because of them, i still kept going forward and now i am doing a lot better then i was before :D (sorry for yapping lol xd)

      i may sound kinda biased but i feel like love live paved the way for popular music anime rhythm games like pjsekai , bandori and enstars (i mean, the success of love live is why bushiroad created bandori)
      i usually now play bandori nowadays but i cant help but miss sif when i play it😭
      also unrelated but sif was the first game i saw an indian character in an anime (game) , rakshata. although she was an n girl i was still happy to see a character (esp in my fav game) being from the same country as me! (tho i was a bit sad to see her whitewashed in her last n card.. gross)

    I loved your video! It perfectly encapsulates everything I experienced and I played for the same amount of time you did. I'm honestly super sad to see how the game ended up and I can't help but feel like the rest of the franchise was heavily negatively impacted by it, which is a shame.

    As someone who played SIFAS from release, one of the main issues was the crazy power creep that happened the moment festivals were released. It WAS fun- especially when you finally grasp how to build teams and playing around with them. It was so disappointing and it got so demotivating since you knew a whale would always beat you. This was also apparent in SIF, but SIF had its rhythm game to let you just ignore scores and play for the fun of it.
    Even with that I'm still so sad to see both games go :( They were a huge part of my life and I wish it ended on a better note.

    Bro I remember some idol rhythm game where it had a gacha system with cards for each character but two twists are that 1: you could trade cards to other players, and 2: when pulling a really good card, you would also unlock the song chart with it, (the problem was is that one of the rare cards from an event gacha with those song charts in it were so impossible to pull that only a few players had pulled the card and unlocked the song (the chart wasn’t even that interesting btw)

    thank you so much for this video! i love LL so much and have since 2015, it’s so tragic seeing the way the games have gone. i was one of the people who *did* love SIFAS (more than OG sif, even as someone who enjoyed the rhythm game part lol) and seeing both games get ditched for a game as abysmal as sif2 was so so painful. i was even excited for sif2 at the start because i was so sure they’d announce 3D mvs for it. until finally it came out and i stuck with it for one (1) event before uninstalling. i’ll always love the franchise but god it’s so obvious that the games are not their priority even remotely which absolutely sucks for fans who don’t have easy access to concerts or merch.

I wish I could have made a longer piece of this video about sif2 itself, but I honestly barely played it, so I couldn't really give any unique insight. So, I actually really liked All Stars. I enjoyed the stories as well. They weren't groundbreaking, sure, but I just liked hearing the voice actors. I also liked collecting characters from both School Idol Festival and All Stars. I really enjoyed both gameplays and love the songs. You did a great job analyzing how this terrible thing happened because I didn't know all of the reasons why they couldn't simply stop making content for it and keep it up, but I guess they wouldn't keep servers up for that. I really hope you're right about another one coming out. If they pay attention to the more popular rhythm games out now, maybe they can find a fun, unique, and engaging mechanic for a new School Idol Festival.

      @jonhummel4341 Thank you, I'm so glad you liked the video! All Stars was really fantastic in terms of "rpg", like the stories and 3d models, costumes etc. The artwork was SO beautiful compared to sif. I played it until it closed, but not consistently because I just didn't understand the gameplay.
      I would be REALLY surprised if they don't make a new SIF title. Because I really feel like they knew what they had to do all along (make a valid psekai & bandori competitor) and they closed sif2 because of it. I'm hoping their thought process was "save money on upkeeping sif now, use it for a brand new one, from scratch". But that's wishful thinking haha

    Yapping warning, this is a glimpse about how i feel about Love Live back then and now.
    LL SIF was my very first anime game ever despite never knowing what is anime was. And i got into the show (μ's and Aqours) and the game SIFAS later.
    I won't lie that the show itself is indeed kinda "meh" and too trope-y in the plot, characterization and drama wise. But seeing the girls having a huge dream and supporting each others really helped me cope with my horrible highschool times. More emphasized on Aqours because when they literally failed to save their school, they still keep their chin up and win Love Live.
    Nowadays, I'm more into more music animes/games/medias with more believable dramas and characters like MyGO (or Bandori in general), Girls Band Cry, and Project Sekai. Because i feel those kind of stories resonates with me personally more than just cute girls slice of life with occasional dramas then winning the competition.
    That being said, Love Live has a huge part in my life so despite my distaste with the franchise now. I love μ's, Aqours (Chika 🧡), and Nijigasaki (Rina Tennoji is my daughter and she still is 🥹🩷)
    Meanwhile i would never get into Liella and Hasu, i still wish both groups the best.

    when i couldn't grasp the gameplay mechanics, I dropped it and went back to bandori (it was my 2nd most played game next to sif at the time). I got completely attached to bandori cuz it gave me the thrill and sense of challenge I never got from sif, illustrations were prettier too.
    But I was still attached to the love live franchise, constantly following the seiyuus and their concerts and all..but I lost interest after all stars. However those in the EU were not granted this due to their digital privacy laws and WORSE if you had travelled to the EU even ONCE and opened the app you weren’t allowed to use it either. @wyster14 I agree, I think because her design is unassuming she is one of the more relatable characters. I'm a girlie with glasses and was always very shy and unconfident in school, so I latched onto her. She kinda carried printemps too, I love her singing voice 🥰 I'm glad to meet another hanayo fan!

      rambling more here. Love live was my gateway into idol projects and i'm still here nearly 10 years later and i remember going to anime cons in 2016 and seeing so much ll merch and cosplay and feeling community in talking about "idol hell".... thank you for talking about the monumental impact it had on idol community bc people forget how big it was!!!!! sekai fans never forget ur roots!!!

      @@chompinator it was SO huge! People cosplayed them, even made cosplay groups where they'd do dance and song covers, people created fangroups of characters they designed themselves. Merch everywhere, memes everywhere. It really is understated just how much Love Live influenced idol culture today. PSekai has LLSIF to thank lets be real.

      @Bellabeebearee oh wow! Most people I know found the anime through the game, so they like the games. Is there a specific reason you hate the games? I'm just curious :o for research purposes I guess haha

      @@Chaimelo it’s not the games itself! It’s more the developers. I spend a really long time on SIFAS and I was really pissed when they suddenly deleted everything. It felt pointless. It feels like a cash grab now, and I’m just not that interested as I am with other games.

      @Bellabeebearee omg that's so real. I agree with you. It got to a point where it became clear they didn't care about the player base and just wanted the gacha money. Like 0 gameplay updates or innovations, optimization updates or anything. They were always greedy from the start of SIF, it just got worse the longer it went, it seems.

    Like I kinda wish they give us mvs in the next sif game if they make another one. That's what I enjoyed about all stars, so it would be nice if they would implement it in the next game.

      I agree! Rhythm games underestimate just how much the audience appreciates a good music video. I'm a project diva player, and games like project diva f2nd put so much effort and time into cool music videos for each song. I'd love to see something like that for SIF.

    I remember i used to hate this show because most of the girls like it back then, i forgot about it until today! i think (and still) of it as a school boring show of girls, just dancing, no drama no action no good plot, i'm also against sexulize minors now that i grow up and realize this! 😅
    But i do appreciate the clothes design, pretty cool.

      @にこ-c7l that's so sad omg!!! Don't get discouraged if you're behind. If you enjoy the gameplay and like the cards, play for fun 😊 I don't know much about the game admittedly so I don't know how the mechanics work in terms of power scaling. But I hope you can still enjoy the game regardless ;-;
