Guys, we have to apologize. There was a mix-up with the title selection and we didn't realize before walking away from our computers for the day. You are right, this is NOT a VERSUS video even though it was titled as such. Heck, it does sound like you want to see a true old versus new notebook video and we'll listen. There's an old Dell Vostro in the office that would be a perfect candidate. :) We apologize and have since updated the title. Everyone makes mistakes and this one sucked!!! :(
Asus E200ha is a great budget laptop. I know it cant game apart from older games or simple puzzle games but for simple work and watching movies it's battery life is amazing. It's a pretty cool laptop..
Why the hate? The title isn't clickbait since there are benchmark results in the video from both laptops. And changing the title to: ''LG Gram Review'' would make a lot more sense.
They should have made the screen flip to the other side like the Yoga. That way people can actually use the touch screen in a tablet form. I don't think it is possible to use touch in such a light notebook otherwise. You are basically poking it and there is nothing to support it. Body flex could be eliminated by using an all metal housing that would make it heavier, but I think people would like it a lot more. Camera and speaker placement should not be sacrificed on any device. If companies would only LISTEN for once, they would know this by now.
Would love to see something as efficient as this charge off two type-c connectors instead of something proprietary. Really looking forward to the day that you can charge your phone, laptop, wireless mouse, and bluetooth headset all off the same charger and cable(s). Something like my Anker charger could get this charged in less than 2 hours using both ports.
I remember when the MacBook Pro came out in 2008 it was super thin for it's time and featured easily swapped out battery and hard drive. Sad to see that apple has thrown user upgradeability out the window in as short as 2 years (yes you could still have upgraded ram, hdd, ssd, and stuff since they weren't soldered on to the mother board but the loss of the ease and modularity was a shame).
If you used a ThinkPad T510 from 2009 / 2010 the performance diffenrence would be much smaller. You can still do daily tasks quite well with an 8 year old laptop. Just put a SSD inside.
I think that the model with the i5 is pretty interesting in particular for who don't want to spend 1.7k and just want a very good notebook... Will fit perfectly my need for a dev like me ! it was a good review but the VS was a little bit faster as I thought it should have been
the Samsung Notebook 9 (2017) NP900X5N-X01US is really good and its has gen 2 thunderbolt. Please have a look at Samsung Notebook 9 (2017) NP900X5N-X01US
Could you recommend this unit for Photoshop use that is, shall we say, not "light" nor crazy-intensive, either? Specifically, I am in need of an ultra-portable laptop that I can use for work when travelling. I have an Asus ROG 751 that I LOVE, but that thing is so darn heavy... I am graphic designer (no gaming, no video editing).
Ahh not much of a VS since your brick is dead, but the review is pretty good. My old Dell D810 with a Core 2 duo T7700 2.4 Ghz did the Ryzen Blender in 8 min 12 sec. That thing is very slow.
This comparison doesn't make sense. Why are you comparing a low end laptop (relative to its age) to a high end laptop nowadays? That HP was nowhere near $1500 when new.
Why won´t the low voltage processor render 4k video? My 8 year old 1st gen i7 has no problem rendering 4k video, so why would it be a problem for this brand new laptop?
"Screen wobbled every time I tapped on a window" "Lid can be opened with one hand" So is it a good or a bad thing? You want it in a laptop or you don't? Or it should detect what I want to do and change magically?
Although not bad the samsung notebook 9 15 is just better on all levels: Better battery life, better graphic card, better ssd, better screen with less reflections, thunderbolt 3 port and so on (I am talking about the high end model of course)... Yes it has no touch screen and it is a bit heavier, but it's still light as hell and well just all around a lot better and usually even cheaper to get.
The gram is quite interesting, but the lack of information about GNU/Linux compatibility is not that convincing... Both the XPSs and the Thinkpads offer amazing GNU/Linux compatibility, but i can't find anything about the gram...
The problem with this is i would want to buy it for its lightness so i can carry it everywhere and chuck it around. The ruggedness of this just isn't up to life on the road
ya lg gram the whole time except very beginning mentioning the 300 dollar g60. there were plenty of good thins when g60 was out and they costed 1200+ just like gram and battery life of 12 hours was around then as well if you gave up some performance see core 2 solo.
Hell Heaven It really depends on your needs. If performance is important for you, going with the Pro would be ideal. But again that depends on how invested you are into macOS. If you're looking for a solid Windows laptop, XPS 15 or 13.
the title should be something along the lines of "laptops then vs now - lg gram review" or something like that so you dont get the butthurt people triggered edit: oh lol i think they actually listened
tech companies need to realise that were not all pussies. We don't need rediculously small and lightweight laptops me personally give zero fucks about it being mega thin and mega light when it impears things like performance and battery life. I'd rather it be thicker and heavier but have really good and big battery and a much bigger heat sink so the cpu and gpu can work to their full potential. Than it being thin and have horid battery life and throttled performance all in the name of aesthetics.
yes exactly everyone seems that making it a lot smaller and having marginal improvements over the predecessor is all we need when we would rather care about getting a laptop as thick as that old one he had including a bigger battery
"Our new has much more powerful SoC, much more pixels on a brighter screen. It's also 0.5 mm thinner, but battery has half the capacity of previous model. Enjoy!"
Joe Pinder not everyone think like you...I just need a 15inch laptop which I use for browsing, media consumption, photo editing and slight 1080p video works on hitfilm express and school works like prepairing ppt presentation, document editing etc... for my use case I need light laptop for carrying it to and fro college and home, good battery life, easy to handle, same time I need 15inch screen real-estate for my multi windows multitasking works....! I really don't game on laptop and I don't need a hyperthreaded quad core mechine weighing around 2kgs...LG gram Weighing 1kg suites better for me

You call that a brick? Take a look at my 13 year old dell inspiron 9100. Back in 2004 it was praised for being a desktop replacement.
Joshua Shiozawa
guy 1: this water is cold.
you to you: I *must* one up him
you: oh yeah, my water is -800 degrees celcius fight me.
The cinematography is beautiful as always, Eber! It wasn't much of a comparison, but still a great review.
your guys' videos make even dust on shtuff look good
This channel is 10/10. This is what happens when creating good content normally. People flipping out over title mixup lol
old vs new *proceeds to talk about the gram the entire video* This is a review not a VS
"LG GRAM (2017) Review - Thin & Light Notebooks Came FAR in 8 Years!" That doesn't sound like a VS video. It was just a basic talking point.
this is the kind of youtube, what i can call art.
Great review. Watching Laptop reviews aren't really relevant for me, but adding a comparison like this makes it Worth watching.
Good review!
Asus E200ha is a great budget laptop. I know it cant game apart from older games or simple puzzle games but for simple work and watching movies it's battery life is amazing. It's a pretty cool laptop..

Macbook shocked not only everyone but also every-portable thing. Thanks, Jobs.
I had a Compaq that had the same chasis as that HP. It had a dual core Athlon and it was the first laptop that actually wowed me with it's speed.
My wife LOVES her gram. It was the only PC to get her to turn away from mac, and she hasnt looked back since.
We still have that HP laptop at my school. Works perfectly fine!
Now you can talk about upgradability and ease of repair of older notebook due to their thikness. It would be great.
The gram is surprisingly upgradeable, even the 13 inch version. The Ram and ssd are both replaceable.
Yay for the num pad!

I prefer the Brick! It doesnt matter how it looks, matters whats inside ;)
Would love to see something as efficient as this charge off two type-c connectors instead of something proprietary. I'd be interested in hearing about the lesser configurations of the Gram, I suspect they'd even have better battery life.
very nice review!

nice video and nice Notebook!
but what's the wallpaper @4:14 ?
If you used a ThinkPad T510 from 2009 / 2010 the performance diffenrence would be much smaller. You can still do daily tasks quite well with an 8 year old laptop. Just put a SSD inside.
Very cool concept for a video! Good Job!
I think that the model with the i5 is pretty interesting in particular for who don't want to spend 1.7k and just want a very good notebook...

it was a good review but the VS was a little bit faster as I thought it should have been
Agree. For a lot of people, weight is a priority. And this one delivers.
the Samsung Notebook 9 (2017) NP900X5N-X01US is really good and its has gen 2 thunderbolt. Please have a look at Samsung Notebook 9 (2017) NP900X5N-X01US
LG Products.... 15 inch model with i7 is said to have the thunderbolt 3, but the marketing department did not advertise it ..... lol
Holy shit the G60
I had one that died about a year ago. I did a teardown of it and still have the Core 2 Duo that was in it
Could you recommend this unit for Photoshop use that is, shall we say, not "light" nor crazy-intensive, either? Specifically, I am in need of an ultra-portable laptop that I can use for work when travelling. I have an Asus ROG 751 that I LOVE, but that thing is so darn heavy... Maybe you could make a followup comparing the two notebooks..
Just enjoying that Eber watches film riot. Me too sir. Me too...
Ahh not much of a VS since your brick is dead, but the review is pretty good. My old Dell D810 with a Core 2 duo T7700 2.4 Ghz did the Ryzen Blender in 8 min 12 sec. That thing is very slow.
I still use my 2010 Toshiba with 1st gen i5 and a gt330m and I have a decent CSGO and photoshop career from it
This comparison doesn't make sense. Why are you comparing a low end laptop (relative to its age) to a high end laptop nowadays? That HP was nowhere near $1500 when new.
he didnt compare anything ...
Have you even read the title?
"Ultra Thin Notebook vs 8 Year Old Brick"
Why won´t the low voltage processor render 4k video? My 8 year old 1st gen i7 has no problem rendering 4k video, so why would it be a problem for this brand new laptop?
i think they better sacrefice the LG logo position down to chassis above the keyboard..so they can put the cam on top of the monitor
"Screen wobbled every time I tapped on a window"
"Lid can be opened with one hand"
So is it a good or a bad thing? You want it in a laptop or you don't? Or it should detect what I want to do and change magically?
my dad used to own the HP g60 with a pentium and windows vista. he retired it 2015
You have the same sweater as me! :) sweater buddies!!
Heh, that dinky G60 is a brick? I carry a Precision M4700 around. Used to have an Inspiron 8200 back in the day, and that too was pretty darn hefty.

I own the G60 still runs ok. Have a linux OS on it
atm I am forced to work with my old laptop for half the day.
i7 2670 and gt525m is still pretty okay for 3d modeling..
Who would have thought ? :D
marvDE That's a fairly capable machine :)
Any chance you guys are going to review any of new model alienware laptops?
the original macbook air was probably one of the thinnest laptops at the time and definetly not much older than that hp
It's so thin and soft I bet I could my hand through it!
The problem with this is i would want to buy it for its lightness so i can carry it everywhere and chuck it around. The ruggedness of this just isn't up to life on the road
My daily laptop is the high end of that Hp, I use the g70 with nvidia 9600ge
the problem is LG laptops are not available in the UK
I had the exact same laptop!!
ya lg gram the whole time except very beginning mentioning the 300 dollar g60. there were plenty of good thins when g60 was out and they costed 1200+ just like gram and battery life of 12 hours was around then as well if you gave up some performance see core 2 solo.
FREAKING CARBON NANOTUBES *pushes glasses up
thought my speaker was broken at first 20 sec
THAT IS THE REAL REPLACEMENT FOR A MACBOOK AIR !
That moment when a a laptop with windows has more battery life then the new mac's :D
I wonder why big companies like LG or Samsung does not make desktops
Is it coming officially to Canada?
Isn't Macbook air was around 8 years ago?
is this good for video editing?
All of the links for the wallpapers on the LG Gram?
They should probably just rename the video to LG Gram 2017 review.
guys macbook air vs pro ??whats exactly teh difference does the price difference for pro justify it or i should just buy the air ??
Buy XPS15.
Hell Heaven It really depends on your needs. If performance is important for you, going with the Pro would be ideal. But again that depends on how invested you are into macOS. If you're looking for a solid Windows laptop, XPS 15 or 13.
Eber Antony well im a nursning student so i need to do projects , texts, watch videos etc and play league sometimes hehehe
Where is the brick laptop in this vid?
MACBOOK AIR?! just saying...
the title should be something along the lines of "laptops then vs now - lg gram review" or something like that so you dont get the butthurt people triggered
edit: oh lol i think they actually listened
sussey It's Tuesday my dood , get out of here .
... I expected no dongles but then you said I'd need a RJ45 dongle. Whut dude.
Yeah, it's just another laptop. If you've seen one, you've seen them all. I'm more interested in the sponsor, be quiet! product.
why would you need a fullzie sd card reader
How much (g)RAM does it have?
5:16 barely any signs of flex, he says as he proceeds to bend the living shit out of it by applying a small amount of pressure.
I'm watching this in 2009 and I'm deeply offended by your Star Trek remark.
lol I had the Compaq version if the hp and looks like the screen is a common problem
not really subject related, but do you guys know if software for 3d designs benefits alot from good gpu? Or does it mostly rely on cpu?
Verithiell Heavily rely on GPUs :)
So there was 3 'vs' sections, this is a review not a vs *imo*
The LG Gram has a shortened backspace key. Epic fail.
I thought they were gonna legit throw an 8 year old brick at the gram
Dual cores should not be put in $1700 machines, I don't care how fancy.
Wallpaper link for the LG Gram?
Not relly a VS when you only show one side.
No benchmarks comparing the two laptops? If you wanted to review the Gram why even mention the old laptop at all?
No gaming performance review? Dave2D does laptops better.
6:34 Was that a siren?
Whats up with the wobble during typing? I don't think that's supposed to happen and nobody cares?
Not a VS video. This channel's QC isn't great.
Caarbon Naano Tuube!!?
Aren't you scared putting something as expensive as a PC out on your balcony?!?
This is not a vs its a review of the gram wtf, misleading tittle and probably sponsored content.
so... a 1700 dollar notebook to surf internet and check emails... so stupid... i must have it!
geta 5 açıyo mu sen onu söyle
You forgot to stretch the video to 10:01 to add to the clickbait title.
ur awesome
@HardwareCanucks You are Danny Range? kkkkk
Why is a dual core cpu called an i7?? It's crap...
Haha. I got the same laptop in the beginning

"Our new has much more powerful SoC, much more pixels on a brighter screen. It's also 0.5 mm thinner, but battery has half the capacity of previous model. Enjoy!"
But they should still not be completely absurdly big and thick, A fair compramise on girth for better performance is the sweet spot.
Different people different needs, Just because you dont need something doesnt mean others dont want it
Joe Pinder not everyone think like you...I just need a 15inch laptop which I use for browsing, media consumption, photo editing and slight 1080p video works on hitfilm express and school works like prepairing ppt presentation, document editing etc... for my use case I need light laptop for carrying it to and fro college and home, good battery life, easy to handle, same time I need 15inch screen real-estate for my multi windows multitasking works....! change the title
Damn son
