    Do you already use your histogram..? 🤔 If not, do you think you'll start using it now? 😁

      I ALWAYS use it! That's how my photo shoots start. Test shots, checking the histogram.

    This is the easiest explanation of how to use histograms I’ve watched, thanks for that!

    I loved this description! Very helpful! Also liked the outtakes... maybe next time, video 'as your right/left and then mirror the video'. I empathize with the challenge of 'your left, my right' stuff, but you did 👌

    Thank you for the great explanation! Never knew how the histogram actually worked, even though it turns out to be extremely handy. I will definitely use it in Lightroom and turn it on on my camera!

    I forget that some people have never shot film before ! Look forward to seeing your photos👍The cost of film is crazy now! I’ve picked up a Fujifilm camera with the film simulations installed and I gotta say it’s amazing! I recommend one to use a nice walk around set up for some casual shooting👍

    Another interesting video, Josh. Like many others, who have commented here, I rarely use the histogram. I will from now on. Thanks!

    After surgery I needed to get out and rehabilitate myself so I bought my first DSLR just 8 months ago, and things have changed since 1982 and my old Pentax k1000. The many functions of my T6S can be confusing but the way you clearly demonstrate things like histogram it's easy for even an old bugger like me to understand without getting into tech-overload. Sharing your art inspires me to be creative again and I want to learn more and more! By better understanding my gear I have a renewed love of photography, In fact I forgot just how much I love outdoor photography which is making me happier and healthier. Joshua I can't Thank You enough for sharing your videos!!! God Bless

    Thanks Joshua, you really did simplify using the histogram. I don’t use it in-camera, just in Lightroom, but I'm going to start to use it in-camera because that's where the picture starts. You explain everything very well and I would love to see more tutorials.

    I haven't used histogram before and after seeing how you explained it, I should.
    I love your video's always much appreciated for going the extra mile and explaining what, how and why.

    Another great video Joshua. Simple, clear and concise. I had no idea that you could still get decent images with the peaks close to the edges of the graph. The amount of times I’ve been pulling out what hair I have left trying to get the peaks near the middle 😊 I’ve now started to experiment with bracketing in those scenarios

    Thanks Joshua another great instructional video. Being a relative beginner to digital photography effects I learned a lot because you explain it so well and you don't get too technical. I will be paying more attention to my histogram in future and will revisit this video. Yes would love a video on colour therapy. Congrats nearly at 10k subscribers

    The histogram is often underrated and a most useful tool. I try and avoid getting any flat spots at the top because this is digital distortion in my mind. I do a lot of audio stuff as well and to me a digital file has the same characteristics when displayed as a graph - even with analogue electronics this holds true. One of my older Canons used to show the histogram in the preview with the over exposed parts flashing on the image. I'll have to look and see if my 2000D has this option. If not, I'll continue to slightly under expose by a couple of stops to be on the safe side. As usual a great informative video.

    I only use the histogram!! It is a true representation of your exposure! It eliminates the disparity of screen brightness issues, and what your eye may think is correct. I ALWAYS start a shoot with taking several test shots, and checking the histogram. I lock in the shutter speed, aperture, and ISO based on what the histogram shows, and use full manual mode for consistency!

    Probably just as important of a take away is a suggestion on what to do with a gray winter day. It's not a subject I can get good search results for. Winter always gets conflated with snow photography.

    there’s ONE major issue using the histogram on most cameras … it’s sampled off of the jpeg representation! so, just by changing this profile in camera, you’re affecting the display of the histogram, and your guidance from that tool becomes unreliable

    • @tomaswmitchellphotography
      @tomaswmitchellphotography Рік тому

      Only if you have your camera shoot in jpeg also. I only shoot in raw so my histogram is based on my raw image.

      @@tomaswmitchellphotography are you sure that in lieu of saving to jpeg, that you see the RAW histogram??? I’m not sure at all…

      @tomaswmitchellphotography Рік тому

      @@mortenthorpe yes I shoot a Nikon D850 and have it set for RAW only when I view the image to check the histogram I am viewing the raw file. There is no jpeg saved in the folder for viewing purposes.

    so do you need to have these 3 high peaks at all times then or not really as long it’s in the middle?

    • @TheJoshuaPeg
      @TheJoshuaPeg  10 місяців тому +1

      Depends on what's in your picture. Anything that isn't touching the edges is generally good
