Only Dublin was English for 800 years (and it was a Scandinavian town before that). The rest of the country wasn't conquered until about 1607 after the defeat of Hugh O'Neill and allies, and the flight of the Earls. So more like 320 years of oppression... For most of the country. More for our pre-Good Friday agreement Northern cousins...
@Ahimsa Bräu Sure, but the original beyond the Pale Normans were feudal knights who carved out territory for themselves and their families, not for their King (as they were supposed to). By the end of the 1300s they were more or less completely Gaelicised. When Henry VII arrived in 1487 only Dublin was considered English and only the Pale considered English territory. Thirty miles west of Dublin was considered "by West of English law". So my original point does still stand on the grounds of the original posters assertion of 800 years of 'cultural oppression'. There was no significant cultural oppression outside of Dublin until after the defeat of the Earls.

WHO WOULD WIN?
- 800 years of cultural oppression
- Na buachaillí seo
Only Dublin was English for 800 years (and it was a Scandinavian town before that). The rest of the country wasn't conquered until about 1607 after the defeat of Hugh O'Neill and allies, and the flight of the Earls.
So more like 320 years of oppression... For most of the country. More for our pre-Good Friday agreement Northern cousins...
Sorry couldn't help shticking the history lesson in there.
Mo freagra - 'Na buachaillí seo.'

Fuck me, I didn't see the bastards coming
A black car hidden on the hill and them inside
No chance at all they'll get my bag of MD,
Because I have a party tonight and the RUC aren't welcome.
And without a doubt, I'm excited
Going down on the snuff again and again,
And I won't stop until morning because I don't settle down
And I got a big bag of ket instead of my rent
You're not fucking listening to me, this is a fucking joke
I'm trying to be at the part with you eating a few yokes,
Doing a couple of lines of the fine white powdered coke
And the end of the night will come and we'll all be going for a smoke.
But if we're caught today it's us who'll have out eyes down
Because the big furious pigs are on our tracks
And the dull people of Maghaberry will be on our asses
I told you, that's the reason for the Balaclava
They can walk. Walking they'll change nothing.
I have the best 'gear' in Belfast for a long time,
Coke, speed and marijuana
Coming in from the Connamara mountains.
Partying with Tinky Winky and Seamus Barra,
I won't stop from winter to spring
I sell snuff to your granny, your son and your friends
That pays off my holidays in Falcarragh.
There's no town that we're not in right now,
Cork, Derry, and even D4
Destroying the place to be rich
Then doing white stuff with the stars of TG4
So get going now, and let's hurry,
Because I'm too sober right now,
And we'll be going until morning with Rónán Mac An Rí,
Because fuck the rules at RTÉ
Chorus x2
R.I.G.H.T.
I don't give a fuck about any Garda
A lit joint, I'm too fast,
You won't see me standing too long.
Micí Mire and us were taken on the way
Because I gave the dirty Garda a smack,
I had to run through the town and hide
Because I had 10 kilos of coke taped to my chest.
That's not to say that I was scared
Sure I don't pay my toll on the M50,
And we'll continue on until every tear is finished,
Legal grass in fucking United Ireland
“Young man we caught you damaging public property,
And you are coming to the station so we can talk properly”
You're talking to Kneecap we couldn't care less,
I do be on your mother's Facebook wanking like fuck,
Struggling with my breathing because your sister is wet
Giving your dad a battering and me naked.
Because for a long time now I've been out of my mind,
I'll do a little bit in front of you,
Whoever happens to be part of your life,
I break every rule except 'broad with broad'.
Brilliant folks Kieran from Cork 💯💪🙏

Hello from MC Ghost, a fellow Celti Rapper. Smooth rhymes. I DJ quite regular and Kneecap are up there on the list. Great to see the gaelic language in use, well done guys. All the best 3CAG
Just finished this tonight, I’m English and proud, i hate when people call me a Brit, im not. But I got all the references and I know history. Having a Irish wife also helps, I get reminded of the potato famine every week, and the stuff the British army did over there. So, good on the boys for a. rapping in their own language and b. Making the lyrics as controversial as you can get.
Fucking love it. My grandpa would get hammered and speak broken Gaelic. Shout out from your favorite plastic Paddy from across the pond!!!
Love and support from America!
‘Brisim achan riail seachas focan caol le caol’

Alix O’Kane i hardly have any Irish, what does that mean?
It’s kind of an Irish grammar joke. It means ‘I’ll break every rule except fucken thin with thin’ hard to explain, it’s one of those ‘if you know you know’ things
