Ben I was beyond stoked to meet you at the A-Frame surf shop in Carpinteria a couple of days ago. I just wanted to say thank you again for your time and for being such a humble down to earth guy who represents the surf community so well. You're inspiring so many people young and old alike with your journey myself included. Keep up the great work and stay safe! -Gavin
The 12ft. wooden surfboard made me think about the 9' 6 fiberglass board I learned on in the sixties. Historic ride Ben. Completely different angle on surfing then today's boards.
WOW! Don't know where to begin, except to say that I didn't want this episode to end! ...Kevin Graham is a full on legend...supersonic guy is, well, supersonic! This vlog ! Ambassador of Aloha meet and greets with the groms and fans, Kalani and his crew bringin da stoke, and that kat with the old Mercury and that Blake board, a real throwback to the freewheelin lifestyle of those early days of surfing, Grannis, Blake, Dora et al....and Ben riding that kookbox doin a Soul arch and a quazimoto!! The Sultan Of Stoke delivers again! Mahalo aloha Ben, Jordan and Ryan. Thanks for takin us along...
Learnt to surf on a “12 ft Kook box “ around 1962! They were mainly used by surf lifesavers here in Australia .A lot got built so they were available .Balsa or foam and glass boards were in short supply ,and out of the reach of a twelve year old.We towed them down to the beach on bike trailers.Luckily we only had small to no surf. They had no fins ,so you spent a lot of time going sort of sideways until the rails caught.Upside they could catch any ripple. Thanks for your videos ,really enjoy them .Still surfing longboards, the older I get the better I was…..Cheers
So cool of Brian to let you rlide a few waves on his stick... He's the real deal 4sure...rocking that hat and striped vest on a wooden board.....🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼 Great vid Ben
Thanks for again, being such a great example of the benefits of sobriety, honesty, enjoying the moment, and making things happen. Keep going Ben! Also, finding a wave here in AZ would be awesome, I grew up on a boogie board in Ventura, Carp, and Santa Barbara, but 20 years later and in the desert, my desert suffocating self wants to surf.
It must be fun to see how the stoke is spreading from Your, Jenn & Mackie's hard work! The people that come to events to see you validate it with their ear to ear smiles....Kalani Robb note---I was a manager at the Turtle Bay Hilton back in the late '80's and his Mom worked there...I was a graphic design guy and she hired me to make her son Kalani's first logotype...He was a star on the local scene while he was still in school...They made some stickers with it, but within a month he was getting signed by everybody and he took off like a rocket...He was a great kid and thanks to your vlog I can see he turned out to be a great guy all around...Awesome that you two are such great friends...
Another epic stoke filled episode! Surf Captain on the kook box was one of the coolest parts! Legend! Love to see you interacting with the fans and keeping it real Ben. And Kalani Robb! Love that dude and his antics lol. Cracks me up every time without fail
It’s nice to see you put smiles on so many people’s faces. Watching you ride the kook box, makes me want to build one. Stay stoked! Aloha from Hawaii Ben!🤙🏻
Love to see my hometown come out to support Ben, Jordan and Mack! Actually Ben I could see you and Jordan having a 2nd home in OB. It's your vibe and there's plenty of novelty action along Sunset Cliffs. And plenty of antiques for Jordan and Fashion Valley Mall and UTC mall are within a 20 minutes drive to get her designer freak on... Cali will always be for the Dream!
Thanks for showing me in the vlog y’all, i was cheesin so much in dat purple billabong shirt 🤣. Couldn’t contain the stoke. 🤙🏽🤙🏽Gila monsters for the win ❤️❤️
I remember seeing an interview with an old lady (in her 70's) some years back who was still paddling out in Cornwall, England. She talked about the wooden boards they road in her youth. She said there were people working the beach that would un-nail them after the morning session, let them dry out, re-nail them up again ready to go again.
Thanks Ben for dropping by OB! Steviegirl was super exited to see that she had made it onto an episode of "Nuking" lol. And her dad was super appreciative of the "Hooya!" message on his poster. For the dream!
Love to see you meeting and sharing waves with all the Groms ! Tom Blake from Washburn Wisconsin on Lake Superior, now you got it ! ... the history !!...BITCHEN you made it to Old Mans for some real fine culture connect, and glad to see you got the long board style turn on !....e.
I wanted for years to build a Tom Blake paddleboard! And the old guy (probably my age) is wearing authentic 1940's surfwear! I met a guy at San O 22 years ago who surfed Santa Cruz on leave from WWII--he said they wore wool clothing like that from surplus stores. Great video, thanks.
I love the fact that Ben has celebrity status. He has to work his ass off to produce this much content so he deserves and has earned his way. Keep it up Ben!
Popular mechanics magazine had an article with plans on how to drill one of those boards. I think it is the 1940s. They were more for paddling than for surfing
Hi Ben, haven’t touched base in a while. Dog, your surfing just keeps getting better, more fun to watch, more polished, better waves. Keep doing what you’re doing. Thanks for the waves, the vibes, the video.
my grandfather had his original handmade box paddleboard he made as a teenager hanging in the rafters of his garage along with my aunts gidget era log. he was from santa ana california and was an avid surfer and outdoorsman. i remember him often talking about surfing killer dana prior to it being destroyed.
Fully missed the guy at my Local ! We’ll at least you got to see some of the groms and get a few fun ones ! The grom with the sandwich in his hand is Kingston he’s our favorite up and coming grom ! Salt Creek with Ben Gravy for the dream, Legendary 🤙🏼 Much Love Ben yewww !
Kook Box Goodness WHAT!!!? I'm psyched that you're here this week. I can't forget to mention Jordania, that girl is fire!❤️🔥 Shout out to Kalani and Ryan Mac. The surf wasn't there but the Stoke was in overdrive! For the Dream Bruh! 💙
Ben, just some FYI un-asked-for advice: never let your wife overheat. She'll blow a head gasket or something. Sometimes there is ejecta that can leave a mark. Don't ask how I know. Carry on. Great vid! : ))
Enjoying how Jordan is becoming so much more a participant in your creations as your marriage evolves her as a special partner. Its a great thing. Marriage makes the difference. Enjoy and flourish. 54 years married a 1950 suffer balsa wood first stick.
My claim is to get barreled by your best video ever! For someone my age (60) to be fully nuking?! You guys are the best. Thanks so much for sharing what surfing is all about - FUN! One day at a time...
1:54 Hard Rock! Later, oh shit, more rocks! That's me saying it by the by. I've windsurfed, but never surfed, yet this was the most fun vid of fun vids! Way to much fun you guys even on the smallest waves! Now I'm nearly 70 I think I'll be needing a super large long kook box if I decide to start!
Awwww, the kook box was too long and rather unwieldy for you to perform radical cutbacks, Ben. Our version of one here in South Africa in the late 1950's to early 1960's was called a Finn Anderson, made by them. Probably about 11 feet long. It was very stable in the foam, so you never got knocked of your board easily when straightening out. It had a screw-in, screw out, plastic plug on the nose, in order to drain any water that got through into it's hollow chamber. And most of the time it had to be drained after a few waves. And then of course the modern boards took over soon, and virtually no-one was seen to be riding them anymore.
I'm pretty sure I saw rocks like ......in the lineup ! Come on Ben .......the world needs it's "Living the Dream" ambassador ! Be careful out there bro !
Hey 👋 Ben, I have been a fan of Nub Nation going on approximately 16 years. You and your brother gave me a Nub Nation DVD 📀 at Corsons Inlet back approximately 2006. Why am I not on your Alumni Nub Nation Team? Vic
Long ago a neighbor gave me a simal board that he had built. It had no fin and he called it a paddle board. They used them to paddle outside the break lying down but he claimed you couldn't surf on it. Wish I had kept it! Wondered if you'd hit San O - maybe Oceanside?. Always fun seeing you and Kalani surf together!
There was a guy out at Bells Beach with a Kook Box when I surfed there a while back. I’d never seen one before or even knew what it was called but looks like a lot of fun!

The news guy was good. The good ones always make it easy to do an interview. Especially live.
That guy had the wooden board dialed in.
Awesome to see Brian Bent in the video. He is a great artist and style king.

two of my Favorite internet heroes - Ben and Brian! Would love to shred with you chaps someday.
I used to follow Brent way back when I first got on insta, was trippy seeing him just pop up. So sick to let him sesh that board !
I like it how the hollow board kicks up that jet tail of water behind it.
You lot all messing around, being silly and just having fun. That’s what’s it’s all about. Brilliant to watch ! 😎✌️
I can feel the love all the way here on the Oregon Coast!
the double ride on the kook box with Kalani was ALL TIME!!!!!

Note that everyone is wearing full suits with boots and the guy with the kook box is in a springsuit
Legend
My 3 favorite surfers come together in the ultimate "Kookfecta!"
Kook box looks like it would be a somewhat simple board to build with basic tools, would be cool to do one with a full glassing and built in fin.
Ben, just some FYI un-asked-for advice: never let your wife overheat. She'll blow a head gasket or something. Sometimes there is ejecta that can leave a mark. Don't ask how I know. Carry on. Great vid! : ))

Looks like a blast...Enjoy and keep it shredding for the win🏆
This is why Ben is soo much cooler than Kelly slater. Strait up soul surfer.
UA-cam vlogger isn’t a soul surfer really at it’s heard tho. Huge fan of Ben though
So sick! Always wanted to make a 16ft one of those, maybe some day!
California LOVES you bro!
brain bent is something else on a kook box, also never thought kalani would choose to go to San O
Made me smile so much!
That’s a sick kook box, bring it on down to Folly Beach 🤙🏽
You should try that kook box without the fin because they originally didn't have any.
Nice sunrise - did you get to enjoy the sunset that day? One fir the ages!
Ben, you need one of those 12 foot wooden boards for ferry surfing back in NJ
Ryan Mack your B roll of the sky was on fire!
Great vid. Especially liked great vibe happening in the surfshop
My grandfather told me about those boards back in the day. Pretty rad

There was a guy out at Bells Beach with a Kook Box when I surfed there a while back. I’d never seen one before or even knew what it was called but looks like a lot of fun!
You are now Big time
Congratulations Ben
