Motilal Oswal Nifty Microcap 250 Index Fund, is an open-ended mutual fund scheme replicating/tracking the Nifty Microcap 250 Total Return Index (TRI). It is designed to measure the performance of the top 250 companies, excluding those already present in the Nifty 500 constituents. Motilal Oswal Nifty Microcap 250 Index Fund is benchmarked against the Nifty Microcap 250 TRI, and the Direct Option has a Total Expense Ratio (TER) of 0.40%. The Nifty Microcap 250 index has generated a 52% return over three years, as compared to 38.6% for the Nifty Smallcap 250 Index.

Why active based mutual funds are risk in micro cap?
Usually they say, go for index funds in large cap and mid cap.
And active for small cap, as small cap has more than 250 stocks with more volatility. And only 50 to 100 stocks will be doing good returns in those 250 stocks. So one has handpick those to get a good return. That's why a good fund manager is needed for small caps funds.
That being said, for small itself we need actively managed funds, microcaps which comes after smallcap i.e 501 to 750 rankings.
Shouldn't it definitely get a active managed mutual fund?

Can this fund give higher return than Nifty Microcap 250 Index? My understanding is NO considering there are charges and tracking error. However some websites (like Money Control, etc) are showing higher return (with leap jump) as on 31st Oct 23. This is quite confusing to me. Please clarify.
