Always seems to be "just a few more things." Making those trial cuts are always great motivation to continue and get it finished up. Kind of like remodeling a 100 year old house, there comes a point where you need to focus on one room and get it finished. Seeing that kind of progress removes the feeling of "I'm never going to get this done."
Maybe it's time to put some focus on old "Lurch." I got a feeling you are going to need it greatly one of these days. Seeing how you get the steady rests and the tailstock fitted to it should make some interesting video. And, you may want to consider waiting on unloading the LeBlonde, until you have the big Monarch in operation ... just a hunch.

Take the t bolt out of the tool holder and turn it 180 degrees. Your locking handle will turn 180 degrees too I think so you won't have to shim it
That should work. My Dorians have “V” shaped teeth inside the handle that mesh with teeth inside. You remove the nut, washers and thrust bearing, and can lift the handle to reposition it every ten degrees or so.

Not many people could restore a lathe like this as its time consuming and takes a lot of patience, from where you started till now its a beautiful lathe, great job, also it make's a big difference since the lathe was well made in the first place.
I have a 1937 22MB Monarch in my shop, the lower gear box is noisy since it's all spur cut gears,(I have broken it down part way and all is still remarkably tight), though with oiling it quiets significantly. Mine has open gear, yours may be enclosed and running in oil, I don't know. Since I can't afford much down time I've only done a few things to it, but nothing like the restoration you've done.

Glad to see it finally making cuts! I am also glad the bearings worked out Time to get a big bar to face and turn to check for square. Unless the bearings are shot in your taper attachment it shouldn't be a huge job to clean up and get installed. They are heavy though!!

I have always found the "Automotive Stethoscope" invaluable in detecting and locating mechanical "noises", like bearings calling it a day. Inexpensive too.

WOW. So nice to see it up and running. VERY impressive work you have done on it. I watched every chapter, I think.
Was very interesting to follow along on the restore. Those little things will probably drive you crazy until all finished, then you will have something that will last for decades. Likely better than anything made today, but that's why the lathes are so popular even after the time spent in restoration.

Well, My first stumble across you and your channel was one of the midpoint videos of the LeBlond restoration. As such I have an unhealthy emotional attachment to it! (lol) BUT, I already got to watch Blondie get restored and I am confident that whoever is lucky enough to get her will also honor your restoration work. Back in the saddle again!
Very, *very* well done Keith!!! It is so nice to see this machine in one piece and running smoothly. I can only imagine the dedication and determination you must have needed at certain points to carry the restoration through. It has been--and I am sure will continue to be through the final little bits and tweaks--a true pleasure to watch the process step by step.
As a complete novice--worse, as I have never actually even touched a lathe since metal work was not taught at my high school after the second year--I do not know what a taper attachment is, but I look forward to finding out!
If you watch Kieth Fenners' channel, he has done some taper attachment work on his lathe.
Keith Fenners is different, though... It's a "tracer" attachment that does more than tapers, so it's a bit different. Abom has a taper attachment that he used in a recent vid.
It's always nice to get a machine back into operation. Enjoy the feeling and once again enjoyed your video. Keep up the good work.

Congrats, good news. IIRC, there is a 10EE somewhere around. And 3 machines all more or less for the same part size...i would also let the leBlond go to a good new home. Maybe another lathe, which is a lot smaller? On the other hand, there are a few other machines to restore somewhere...there was a planer also, lol.

Cutting metal without the wipers on the saddle! particularly when you have turcite under the saddle, Do American tool suppliers only sell adjustable spanners (wrenches) we call them Nut Rounders in the UK
The moment I hear that intro music, my stress levels drop to safe.
You might want to change the compound retaining nuts to flange nuts or add some hardened washers under those with use the small bearing area on those nuts will wear into the soft cast of the compound. I have a 12CK Monarch that has quite a divot worn there.

Nice to see those first cuts, finally. First thing I thought when you fired it up was, that seems loud. I am no machinist, and have only used a lathe once a few months ago to polish some shafts for a planer rebuild. But watching machining videos, one of the things I picked up on was that Monarchs are suppose to be relatively quiet.

No need to shim the toolpost, simply turn the toolpost bolt around 180 degrees before you slide it into the compound.

Congrats on your progress. My Model K sounds like yours. I will be interested in what you find in the gear box. I just figured it to be noisy because its open at the bottom.
Didn't he already go through the gear box? (Or was that on the LeBlond?)
