The original plan was to impose Liberalism and soon after make a new revolution to impose Communism. Napoleon spoiled their plans. Many people believe that Liberalism is different or even opposed to Socialism/Communism.
Liberalism is the antechamber of Marxism; it is the one that imposes secularism which then facilitates atheism; it is the one that imposes the anti-national and cosmopolitan mentality which then facilitates internationalism; it is the one that infiltrates all State structures with henchmen of the satanic sect of Freemasonry, which then facilitates the persecution and slaughter of Christians. Liberalism was not created as a complete ideology, because it was an ideology of transition to communism, that is why liberalism only thinks of the economic factor of a society ignoring all other aspects of the human being and his social organisation.

Note that I took college courses on this subject... my history prof had specialised in this era over his long career. Per him and sources he showed us at the time, neither 1788 nor 1789 were particularly poor harvest years throughout most of France, in fact in most of France, 1789 was a bumper grain harvest. What occurred was that due to very strict price controls on the selling of grain, the much of the nobility and merchants shipped their grain out of France to sell to other markets where they could get more money. This was perfectly legal at the time. However, grain imported INTO France was under no price controls... so of course a lot of the grain was shipped to another country's port, loaded onto another ship (or not)... and then shipped into France via a different port as imported grain.

So many persons, conflicting ideals, power plays etc, that I just do not follow easily. You have cleared some of that. I have always suspected that to understand the French from the late 18th century thru early 20th century I would need to become fluent in the French language. I know there is much I have missed. As a Spaniard American it is common knowledge in Spain that Louis the 16 wasn’t running the show. It was his council yet he paid the price. He never liked being king nor did he like to rule. His council always guilt tripped him with “it’s what your your past ancestors would do” and he just went with it. He hated seeing when things went wrong so he’d just lock himself in his room all day and hardly went outside. When things went right he hated it too as the people of France would only expect more of him.
If he had never funded the American revolution he would’ve never had to raise taxes. As the Spaniards also helped the American revolution example (Bernardo de galvez) that help was coming out of France pocket. It was very expensive war support and if France hadn’t supported America would’ve never got independence and king Louis wouldn’t have raised taxes. France at the time owned too much foreign territory that cost money to sustain and funding wars to weaken Britain was ultimately what led its downfall.
Scary that I see America falling into the same path. Country division, spending trillions to support a country to weaken an enemy (russia). Territories like Puerto Rico beginning to ask for independence and it’s only a matter of time until they begin to fight for it.

There was a story I heard regarding a war between France and Spain- whether they had guns?
But this story entails the “middle finger” which later evolved into a curse:
The tale goes- when a French soldier would be captured by the Spanish army (of which their main weapon) was the bow and arrow… the Spanish would cut off the middle finger and then release them: because this finger is the main support pull of the bow string… but when a French prisoner would escape… he would put out his middle finger and say… I still have it!”

In France before the French Revolution, as well as in the rest of Europe, there was a rigid caste like structure in which a privileged ruling class of land-owning nobles and the Church held all political power while the vast majority of the population were peasants/serfs trapped in a feudal system with little ability to control their own fate. Their lives were akin to those other properties of the noble class like herds of cattle, sheep, or even slaves. The abolition of feudalism was a significant change in France and eventually the rest of Europe which has become part of the roots of "Western" values.

For the hopefully helpful benefit of a prior comment by @bideni408 (I hope your handle differs in meaning than implication here in the USA).
Anyway, the primary differences of the American and French revolutions in simplistic terms. Here, colonists (not all of whom supported separation from the crown) was founded on the idea of each state (my family for example at the time were patriots in North Carolina) as independent, but voluntarily joining with other colonies in a united and centralized front. However the French revolution would be a bit like upstate New York saying they had enough of NYC. I genuinely hope that helps you. I'm sure 'll receive hateful replies from those insistent on revealing their ignorance. That said, positive or more instructional comparisons are welcome.

The American revolution was the mean to achieve a goal of freedom from external enemy while preserving people's already existing culture and rights. When the goal was achieved the revolution was put back in the box.
The French revolution evolved as a perpetual mean with endless moving goal posts. The country turned against its own identity with the intent of totally reforming the people and the state. Two empires and five republics later France is still trembling in the wake of this monumental historical cataclysm.
