I took a lesson with Billy. He's a chill dude and patient teacher, but holy fuck he's killer on the drums. As much as I learned in that one lesson the best thing I learned is that there's an infinite space for improvement.
A few things that attract me to Billy's style is, for one thing, his control. There is an emphasis on timekeeping and structure in his playing, even while it's technical and very punishing in delivery. Moreover, Billy can be subtle; in the hardcore punk section of Good Neighbor, his fills incorporate interesting interplay between ghost notes and driving single strokes. It fits the abrasive qualities of Dillinger, and their shifting moods and time signatures - a machine with human influence.
@BillyRymer thanks dude been looking for a new sound, and i like that one a lot. you have been a really awesome fit with dillinger, congrats on all the success. see you guys in may with the deftones in nyc!
no doubt...if you can't emulate Chris, you dont't get the job... Chris is a way dope drummer. i was lucky enough to see them w/ Chris 3 times... thanks to my friends girlfriends hi-jinx, we got to the show too late, the time Mike Patton was singing for them...arggg
Billy Rymer fucking rules!! Chris Pennie is definitely insanely good no doubt, however Billy is way younger and and is getting exponentially better and better. Just wait to hear/see is drumming in ten years when he's only like 36 or some shit. He's one of the best drummers alive right now.
@Gcontroller I'm starting to dig Billy a LOT more than I did when I first started to watch live videos of him, the drumming on Option Paralysis is amazing, no question but NOTHING will beat the drumming on Calculating Infinity, very unique style Chris had.
@lukerr87 Chris Pennie is the prodigious genius. And Gil recorded on my favorite album. Billy adds some licks that are so much more snappy and hard. I think he is a great addition to the evolution of this group in terms of pushing the heavy end of The DEP.
I kept seeing that girl straight beaming it in the background while watching him play and thought hell yeah girl, I feel you. Turns out it was just a poster.
billy Rymer kills it! Chris Pennie kills it! Gil Sharone Kills it!! Only about 5 drummers can compete with this crew they all killl it.... So nay on nay saying that I hear at every damn show
@Bycle I know i almost put a comment in the video pointing it out i love how Billy is like " dude...wtf are you doing it ain't a diving board and thats not a pool "
I always suspected that they used a double foot pedal for that build up at 3:40. Or am I seeing it wrong? It looks like he's using two kicks but I can't be quite sure. I want to say he's only using one, but then why his is other leg kicking?
I don't mean to come off condescending or anything, but why do you ask this. You see both his feet kicking and there's a pedal under each of those feet, so why do you ask if that's what he's doing?

That black woman on the poster on the background seems to like that awesome drumming work!
Jajajajaj x2 👍
She's the happiest to witness one of the most talented/influential band, at least when dillinger was together!
@adolf hitler thank you. Truth be the journey!
Definitely one of the most original drummers in music.
Absolute insanity. An incredibly phenom of a drummer. Made DEP that much more incredible I’m the later years
Billy Rymer is one of those gems who can play anything on the kit
favorite live band of all time
5:14 "okay dude gtfo my drums"
+Tyler Hushour Hes like WTF are you doing!?
Boy that really wasn't one of Greg's days
The amount of times he hit his snare. And went back and forth between hi hat pedal and bass drum pedal

Knowing a drummer of TDEP you must have a secondary snare ready at all times in case of first snare destruction within the first half of the set
@mordecai52005 Dude... thank you for the kind words, greatly appreciated. Yea that was the first show I used it, absolutely love the thing.
Such a beast of a drummer
@BillyRymer thanks dude been looking for a new sound, and i like that one a lot. you have been a really awesome fit with dillinger, congrats on all the success. see you guys in may with the deftones in nyc!

Liams stage moves are just too epic...
That was crazy.
5:44 the leg cam with the dudes torso freaked me out a little
Yeah, me too! 😄

ILIO is in the house!!!! god Bless Dillinger
@Gcontroller I'm starting to dig Billy a LOT more than I did when I first started to watch live videos of him, the drumming on Option Paralysis is amazing, no question but NOTHING will beat the drumming on Calculating Infinity, very unique style Chris had.
Sick!
@Gcontroller I hear few drummers who can compete... And all drummers/musicians can agree that we are hungry for this cerebral sound - Billy kills it!
Gotta love that smiling face on the top right corner. That's how you listen to DEP, lady!
Now this is some sick shit!
@Rockband2stream NP thanks for watching and supporting us and metal
that 43% burnt outro is sick
HAHA, love the black chick smiling approvingly at the drummer!!
These guys are so energetic, holy fuck.
You fucking said it!!! It was great as anything can be!
@lukerr87 Chris Pennie is the prodigious genius. And Gil recorded on my favorite album. Billy adds some licks that are so much more snappy and hard. I think he is a great addition to the evolution of this group in terms of pushing the heavy end of The DEP.
@allmetaliswelcome Chris Pennie left Dillinger about 2 years ago, was replaced by Gil Sharone for a while, then Billy joined about a year ago.
Oh Ben,,,,you're awsome. 😍😆
1:46 a great jumb from Ben
does anyone know what kind of crash/ride he has? it sounds perfect
Has anyone else tried to transcribe this? I've been working on the intro, but I can't figure out the right hand/cymbal pattern.
I want to, but i can't find anything good ! The intro is very hard to figure out !
man the echo is killing me...
Why so many dislikes? This is top-notch!
So nay on nay saying that I hear at every damn show
@ 5:14 Billy's like " COME AT ME BRO"
@Bycle I know i almost put a comment in the video pointing it out i love how Billy is like " dude...wtf are you doing it ain't a diving board and thats not a pool "

It's definitely double pedal work. You can't get notes out that fast at that volume without using both feet.
I don't mean to come off condescending or anything, but why do you ask this. You see both his feet kicking and there's a pedal under each of those feet, so why do you ask if that's what he's doing?
The Owl- Eyes Of course he's using a double pedal. You can even see him do it in the music video.
Is Jeff throwing one of the tranport boxes into the crowd at 5:40 ?!
Holy shit.
This is pure Mathcore.
@stylerprofyler
Just gunna say, the band have said Billy is the best drummer they've ever had.
I agree!!
@Gcontroller billy kills it hands down.. Only cause I hear few drummers with his intensity + technicality
it has probably been asked, but what is the song playing in the intro?
picture of lady smiling in the back makes this video perfect.
0:22 - one, two, three, four - fuck.
Approving smiling woman above the ride. My face when listening to Dillinger.
43% Bunt is so fucking crazy.
billy rulez
such a great replacement for chris pennie, both are such great and respectable drummers
what is the 1st verse type sig its so fast lol
Controlled chaos :]
Still can't believe bill is only 19
so here he was 17
haha he isn't, stop listening to Greg and Ben talking shit
Dude, Billy's born 1984, he turns 30 this year. No way in fucking hell a 17-year old can be this technical and intricate on the drums haha!
Charlie's Drum Corner Sean Reinert was 18 when he was recording Human by Death so you never know.
Fair enough!
2:14.. Good to see Charlie Sheen out snapping some photos of sick bands.
@sickdrummerdotcom in fairness, joining Dillinger and being pricey about your bass drum would be kind of self defeating
i see one very satisfied face in that crowd....
as incredible as Billy is, I do find myself still missing Chris
@Bycle he's kinda like, "hey man. I'm gonna use this cymbal so you can move or just take it to your shin...."
He's constantly in the crowd ahhaha
Cool as fuck.
@kingvincedrums Well, it is outside :)
Was that Danny Carey in the background? o.O
CHRIS PENNIE was the best drummer Dillinger ever had ! :)
no chris pennie?
@mordecai52005 Its a Zildjian 21" Sweet Ride.
Just discovered Billy and he's a killer player, but wowee momma, thems some rough vocals.
This is an incredibly challenging song to sing at the best of times. The fact that he can do it that good in those circumstances is god tier.
The pest way to wear your limbs out; mix your drumming with grindcore and mathcore. xD
This is herp derp drumming.
@sickdrummerdotcom chris pennie left about 4 years lol
29 ppl have no clue !!!
@howycwap Fixed...
is it farwell or farewell?
@DeusUniversa10 its so distracting haha if that's even possible watching Dillinger
I knew He was sick but not at this level !!! XD
He missed a note at 1:36
He probably broke his voice during the set. It happens.
5:14 "Get off my bass drum!"
lol. no doubt.
@jr0014 i would probably love this band if they didnt have that kind of vocals
Danny Carey is a fan of Dillinger. So is Mike Portnoy.
@xijalx ah ok.
the black woman on the poster is looking into my soul..
@mortandad180 you don't appreciate complexity then.
@sickdrummerdotcom ah ok
well I'm sure it's very difficult to do some clean singing after his harsh vocals.
The only part of this I liked was the 2min mark....never been a fan of calculated spastic noise bands though, I probably just don't get it. lol.
the echo is kind of annoying, but good video
haha at 5:14 i know that look very well and pretty much states GTFO my bass drum
Ignorance is bliss.
haha no ;)
at 5:45, on billy's footcam you can see hi8m getting on top of that thing, just to be awesome and shit ;)
hmmm..i could never get into these guys' music. oh well, awesome drummer though.
google ads sucks take it off!
@ottawadrummer Pennie is a machine..shame he is wasting his talents with coheed and cambria
Dang, Greg's singing is off...
adblock BEEETCH
