Great comment!! I'm probably your moms age and Princess Diana was the most beautiful lady ever!! When she died, it literally shook the world to its knees. May she be at peace!!🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊
I never knew much about Diana but learning here that she would be so considerate and conscientious with her clothing when visiting certain hospitals, so much as to even wear velvet when visiting the blind so that she would feel soft and comforting... it has just undone me
She also did a lot to combat the stigma surrounding AIDS, when she was seen holding a patient's hand without a glove. She seemed like such a compassionate person, and it's so sad that she died so young.
I remember an interview of Princess Diana's main advisor said that the palace gave Princess Diana as list of charities she can support or be ambassador of. But Princess Diana instead chose bigger causes like AIDS, homelessness, land mines, etc All of which were frowned upon by the palace as they want charities that are perceived as "neutral".
One of the first things I remember hearing about Lady Di was that she visited an AIDS unit and shook the hand of a dying victim, making skin contact at a time when that was very feared and stigmatized. It helped change the public perception of AIDS and HIV. Sometimes I think about what more she could have accomplished if she was still living now.
She was in the middle of a big project of bringing awareness to and funding the removal of hundreds of thousand of land mines in places like Angola, Vietnam etc. She didn’t get to finish that mission unfortunately. It’s such a huge issue even to this day.
Lol her charity work was still minor thing for her, and she didn't sacrifice as much as many other people do to help others. But people still praise famous and wealthy way too much. 🤔 Watch Christopher Hitchens. Please. He had a level-headed view on Diana and royal a-holes. His commentary and the facts he pointed out changes my own perspective a lot
Her sons do alot to keep their mother's memory alive, I suppose the hope is that they have far more of their mother than their father, which seems to be the case
I also love how the final black dress represents the distance she decides to take from the royal family, because during one of her engagement party, she wore a black dress (which is reserved to funerals for royals). She was told by Charles to change the dress but she refused. It can also represent the "death" of her marriage.
I also find it interesting how it makes her look more similar to the other royals, while it is her own style, just like the rest of the family, while at the beginning she stood out a lot more. I felt like it was a reference to the chat between Margaret and Elizabeth saying that she would either "bend" and get used to her new life, or break. She bended, after all.
The revenge dress was also iconic because royal woman don't wear black in public except when mourning, Diana wearing black in a public occasion was a clear signal to royal family Also, I find it really funny that they showed that Diana didn't know in what order to great royal ladies. Her grandmothers of both sides were ladies in waiting to Queen Mother and Diana was an aristocrat. So, she might’ve known how to behave around royalty 😊
Royal women wear black in public often. There are very few rules with clothing. You should look appropriate, and if there is a dress code (black tie, white tie, etc), then you stick to the dress code. Otherwise, wear what you want. No one cares.
The whole not knowing how to greet members of the royal family was similar to the Balmoral thing with thatcher. It most likely did not happen irl, but the idea is to show how inadequate Diana felt, and to be able to build throughout the season this narrative of Diana not being supported or accepted by the royals :)
@@zippogirl At the time it still wasn't usual, which is their point. I remember the press going insane when reporting the rare sighting of a black outfit worn by a prominent royal family member when I was younger, or even in recent years. Even now it's not that common, and black clothes are very rarely adorned.
@@zippogirl yeah, maybe. But I thought - and it's been published widely online, so it might be true (??) that there are rules for what royalty in the UK is supposed to wear, when. E.g. hats, length of dress and type, gloves etc. So Im just saying if that's now, surely it was the case then? 🤔 Not to say they don't break them sometimes, but it's an institution as well as the family/people.
@@daisugoi it's still considered rebellious in the BRF when women wear black. Meghan Markle did when pregnant with her first in a British fashion awards. Head to toe black including finger nails. Press acted as if she slapped the queen. 😂😂😂
It’s funny, the only women I’ve ever heard speak negatively about her have been white now that you mention it. Every single one of my girl friends who are poc and their mums seem to love her.
I saw someone on TikTok suggesting that women of colour often related deeply to the feelings of being unwelcomed or criticised by not only the system of power they grew into, but also their in-laws and their husband's families, and used Princess Diana's story as a way of feeling less alone in their own personal struggles. I tried finding you the link, but it's long lost.
@@alavenderfawn4025 I think that is an important point and this is something people think about now. At the time her charity work wasn't in vogue and she certainly brought the spotlight to many important causes. I'm sure she meant well with a lot of these causes, but she was also naive. Ex: Her work with Mother Theresa. I think she wasn't content with just doing good to territories under the crown, she wanted to try and do something she perceived greater.
I think there's lots of identifying elements: Loving being a mother, loving her children, enjoying giving comfort and love to others who did not have it, enjoying helping out families & communities, being a pioneer through care, being self-less, being soft & warm while surrounded by assholes ,loving fashion, etc And also the darker aspects: Coming from potentially abusive households, being married into a family that follows restrictive and harmful traditions, having to endure horrible men, being cheated on, being told how to be and how to act at all times from a young age, getting married too young, having children too young, etc.
When you described how Diana would choose her wardrobe when meeting children or blind people etc. almost brought tears to my eyes. She was just an overall sweet soul.
It’s only Gen Z that really don’t know about her since she died before that generation existed but even a lot of Gen Zers are starting to research more about her and I love that 🥺❤️
In the 90s I was quite young in one of the apartments my mom and I lived in a friends mother and a friend were very big fans of her. I vividly remember the morning she passed away because the friend called down crying to my other friends mom.
Diana was SO ahead of her time, rewearing dresses to different events, it's interesting because Kate has recently announced she will be rewearing outifts to help the environment and stop waste.
??? Stop making stuff up? Kate didn’t announce anything like that because she’s been rewearing clothes… Her entire life. Princess Anne literally wears clothes from the 70s because she’s kept them and is the same size. It’s not a taboo at all.
dont talk ABSOLUTE rubbish. The RF recycle their clothes a lot... because they are expensive, adn when they have been worn a certain amount of times they sell them
Yeah but that was something very common back in those time im not saying it was correct... But my grandmother had 14 when she meet my grandfather and get married at 16
Yes, people often forget Diana was aristocracy which is why she was seen as suitable wife for the Crown Prince, she would have known the society etiquette and lifestyle stuff, moved in similar circles and probably assumed to expected that Charles could cheat since it was extremely common in those circles and at least not to want a divorce. But times were changing with that and she should have been able to be upset. However she really would have known the etiquette.
That is a bit that's, imho, not meant to be taken as a fact. In that scene, I think they are beginning to build the narrative of Diana feeling inadequate and the royals not being supportive of her/ helping her integrate into the family. She probably didn't mess that up irl, but it's a way to start developing a plot point that is very relevant to the story later! Similar to how thatcher was treated in the Balmoral episode, most likely things didn't happen that way, but they just needed to really show how different both of them were :)
Many things about the show are far fetched ( changed or straight up invented ), that's one of the big problems of the show ( in my mind ) as they aren't clear up front that this is in fact a drama, based on real events, and most definitely NOT a documentary.
If anyone's interested in learning more about Princess Diana, the podcast "You're Wrong About It", did a 5-part series on Princess Diana and it's divine. Michael (one of the hosts) supplements the information from Andrew Morton and Tina Brown's books with outside research and they go from her early years to the aftermath of her death.
My mom told me to grow up like princess diana because she was kind and thoughtful person. So she was my role model ever since. My mom adore her a lot and they both have sadly a tragic lives, but they give their best to the world. Rest in peace,Mom and princess Diana. Thank you for sharing a moment of fashion history.
The Crown is such a strange show to me. It's a historical drama about people who are all still alive. It's not like Rocketman, where Elton John actually worked with the creators to tell his story. It's kinda just like, dramatized fan fiction of people who again, are still alive. Like, what does Prince Harry think of it? Does it bother him to see this depiction of his mother? Does he like it? He seems to hate the media for the way it ruined his childhood, and quite frankly, killed his mother. Again, just, so weird. If they decided to keep going would they include Prince Andrew hanging out with Epstein and assaulting children? It's just, so weird.
There is no evidence that Prince Andrew was part of Epstein's little paedophile group so why would they include it? To do so would provoke a lawsuit for defamation.
Being a 90s british kid, you’re basically indoctrinated from a very young age to have the upmost respect and adoration for the royal family and it’s really only recently that I’ve been unlearning that and questioning the point of monarchy- BUT, that being the case, I still love and respect Diana. Now bear in mind I was born in 1993, so by the time she died I can’t act like I knew who she was or understood the significance of it. But my older sister was devastated, she ended up writing letters on tissue paper about how special and wonderful Diana was in her mourning. Just 90sbritishkidzthingz
No, we aren't indoctrinated from a young age to love the royal family. I hardly knew of the royal family growing up, I was born in 93 too, and my first exposure wasn't until I was 14/15. I even went to a middle-class primary school. I like the royal family because I've done my research into them over the last few years and come to respect them but if you asked me what I thought about them when I was 14 I would have shrugged.
@@peachesandcream8753 tbf on the one hand probably a generalisation on my part but on the other I do think our class and whereabouts in the U.K. will have impacted that. I come from a working class background and lived in the north. I vividly remember tons of news stories all about the royals, my family always getting emotional about the queens speeches, our primary school handing out a gold jubilee coin (and this had a definite impact because years later I did work experience in that same primary school where a little boy there showed that same coin off to say that his dad gave it to him from when he was in primary school). So a lot of working class northern areas do have a sort of national pride that does differ from southern sensibilities and middle class values. But of course these are generalisations, I’m sure while my neighbourhood growing up was brimming with national pride and supporting the monarchy that someone of a similar class rank and area may not have cared or known much. But I’m basing this on my anecdotal experiences that I noticed in my area with my peers
@@MrTwentington I'm from the working class in the South East (I went to a middle class primary and working class secondary) and I don't remember any mention of the royals growing up. Maybe it's a northern thing and we in the South are pretty blasé about them since the South is heavily connected to the Royals? I mean, I literally live a stones throw away from Hampton Court palace. I knew of the historical royal family, since I love history, but I never heard anything about the modern royals. I don't think I ever watched a Queens Speech until I was 15.
I’m a 2000s kid, and I learned about the royals when I was 8- and I was a massive fan of Kate at the time because of how beautiful she was and I wanted to be a royal myself, I guess it’s where you live that creates your impression on them. I mean I live in Scotland and everyone doesn’t care THAT much but they love Diana and seem to love good ol’ Liz but my mother isn’t a big fan of the rest of the royals (not including Diana’s sons and the sons wives) because she hates how queen Liz and the rest of them didn’t want to do anything for Diana after she passed and the fact that they were forced to be upset that Diana died as they seemed to not care. I personally believe that it depends on the area and the people in the area that pressure you or not into admiring the royals.
I vividly remember when princess di passed. My dad and I came home from my softball game and that was the first thing my mom said to us when we walked in the door. She was devastated. She loved Diana and often mimicked her style. I remember she wore a red velvet version of Diana’s revenge dress to my aunt’s wedding and she looked stunning. She also copied Diana’s hairstyle which made her look so much like her.
oh my god i laughed so loud when you inserted that "liar" clip after charles said i love you to diana because that was actually my irl reaction when i first watched the scene from the show
I love the 80s silhouettes and the fabrics in her looks! I see this coming into fashion lately. The dresses are amazing! It was the most depressing season for me. So hard to see the abuse, endless cheating, eating disorders the Princess dealt with. The scene where he screams at her was the worst. Why scream at Di if she was the only one who wanted this marriage to work?
A thank you! Scenes like that one may have happened and may haven’t happened at all and it feels wrong to me how many people take those things as facts and reality
The curator for the Kensington Palace exhibition undoubtedly has a Royal bias in her commentary. For one, it is ridiculous for her to say that we know little of Diana due to lack of footage of her speaking. There are hours and hours of interviews with Diana used for her 1992 biography by Andrew Morton and in the subsequent documentary made, which is now available on Netflix. Of course, Lynn, hired by the Royal family for the exhibition, does not acknowledge these interviews as insight into Diana because it is unflattering for the Royal family. Similarly, Lynn attributes the change in Diana's silhouette preference over the years to a simple aesthetic choice, rather than acknowledging the suffering that played such a huge role in Diana's style evolution - suffering caused by the Royal family.
When those interviews came out meany people at the time said it was the first time they heard her speak. The royals almost never give interviews. To have those kinds of tapes of a royal family member is unprecedented. I don’t think it’s a fair critic when those tapes are all we have. Contrast it to how much we have on any other head of state, for example.
@@orilliavail1380 The tapes were willingly made by Diana as a representation of herself and her life. To say that they are inaccurate or insufficient robs Diana of her agency in their very creation.
Yes, the tapes were willingly made by Diana. No one is denying that she had agency or that they exist however the royal family took away a lot of that agency including her ability to do interviews or do any public speaking. Her first solo interview didn’t happen until after she left the royal family and only took place because a lot of people were willing to go behind the backs of upper management at the BBC (who were in with the royal family). As for the interview tapes you mention: they came out after she died. When the book those tapes were made for came out the book was banned, and she denied having anything to do with it. She was playing a PR game so she could get a divorce. She won. And I think that Charles is with out question a pig, an idiot, and a wealthy spoiled brat and I don’t think he should be king. But it is worth noting that we really don’t have a lot from her and that is by design. The royal family almost never give interviews now, and they give more interviews then they gave back then. That’s Di’s influences, she forced the family to change. But they did have a lot of control over her and they didn’t let her do a lot of public speaking or interviews And to say that a researcher is biased in favour of the royal family because she points out this lack, I just don’t think that’s true.
@@orilliavail1380 1. Compare primary sources on Diana to what we have of any other member of the Royal Family from that era. Diana has them all beat. 2. I gave a number of reasons I think the curator of the exhibition is biased toward the royal family, the main reason as such is 3. SHE WAS HIRED BY THE ROYAL FAMILY. Do you honestly think the Royal Family would hire a curator that wasn't biased toward them? Do you think the curator would ever talk about Diana or her past in a way that was unflattering toward the Royal Family?
another thing to add about ending with the black dress: in the documentary "Diana: in her own words" she also mentioned that she wore a black sweetheart gown to her first public appearance. She felt that black was a very grown up color and wanted to emulate that, but Charles asked her if she was really gonna wear that because only people in mourning wear black. Charles also said that the sweetheart neckline was "revealing" but she didn't find it odd because it's something someone her age would dress. Knowing that, I could see why that would be a color she went back to when she became more rebellious and decided to expose the royal family.
When Diana was in Australia for the tour she went out on a boat ride and my family was also out on the bay. My mother was the only child on the boat and distinctly remembers being waved at directly by Diana. Like one of those waves where you crouch a little and do a little wave so mum knew it was for her. She was so freaking happy!
Something I love about the outfit reproduction at the the start of the season particulary is that they aren't worn in their *famous* contexts (like the pink gingham pants and sweater) but that just makes them feel more like actual wardrobe items, that diana would wear more than once.
Love this analysis, I was born in 92 and my Jamaican mother loved princess diana, she even had a collector’s edition doll of her in our dining room?? Parents of color really do be loving lady di. The editing of charles at 8:32 is the most accurate depiction of charles ever. 😂
The costume design was superb this season, along with the acting. Margaret Thatcher's costumes were amazing too! I was born in 88' so I barely remember Lady Di, but I have a very vivid memory of the day she died: I was watching TV in my grandparents house at night when the news was broadcasted; first I thought it was a joke and then I became sad. I guess that even at 9 years old and from a country far away from the UK I knew Diana was an important and cherised person!
Fellow 1988'er here. I can't say I knew Diana that well either, but I did look up to her, if nothing else because she was a real, living, real life princess. In fact, she was the only one I knew. When she died, it was kind of a reality check for me. Princesses weren't immortal. Princesses, like other people, could DIE. It certainly didn't help that by age 9 I had had 3 kinda close relatives die and would lose another one by the time I was 12. Probably messed me up a bit, now that I think about it.
They're relationship was so sad...it was so sad that the prince and princess of wales could never understand and love each other the way they both needed. Even so however, the costumes in the show adaption are just gorgeous.
THIS! Since that new season has come out all I’ve seen is people just hating on prince Charles (they do have a point but they do forget that it still is a dramatization and not a documentary) when Diana was having affairs as well etc. In the end i always felt like they were just not right for each other
In the beginning of her Royal life Diana tried to only wear British designers and used many different styles. After she began to travel and do engagements on her own, she started only using one or two of her favorite designers and that's how she eventually developed more of a signature style in the 90's that was more of the professional woman look instead of the original 1980's romantic Princess look. I was in junior high then and I remember how much of a worldwide superstar she was.
I’m Australian so the royal family kind of has an impact here and when Diana died my mother fell to the floor in absolute shock. Which says a lot about the impact she had. My mother(she would know she was born in 65) always says she inspired a lot of fashion in the 80s. Also the actor for Charles is like way too attractive to be Charles. Charles was like kind of attractive at best but not that good looking.
I'd love it if you could do an analysis of Queen Elizabeth's first two seasons style! The outfits are really accurate, and like Diana's, they show her personal growth, maturing into the S4 Queen.
I love the way you speak about the way she was treated because so many still forget how the royal family truly mistreated her. I’m 26 so I only learned about her briefly because she died when I was a baby. I learned a lot more about her in high school on my own and now if she was alive today she would be a very important voice in western society in general. Love your videos and the way you really explain things. Best fashion UA-cam channel I’ve watched. Keep it up you are doing great.
I also saw the black and angular "tux" style dress, almost 100% the opposite of the iconic wedding dress, as being a symbol that she is now "married to herself" almost in the style of the famous Elizabeth the First quote. She has now completed both halves of a formal wedding pair at the start and end of the season.
this was incredible! such a thorough account of her fashion choices. whatever the reasons for them, this video was awesome and taught me things i never knew about diana or the royal family. very interesting stuff.
I love it so much, all of your videos feel like home to me. Your style is so nice to look at, your content is knowledgeable and interesting and your voice is so soothing. Thank you for fully convincing me that I love fashion and historical fashion and fashion in media.
I am also a child on the 90's and my mom's style was very similar to Diana's, I did knew about her story and I was very happy to see a nice rapresentation of her and her style that were iconic. Great video =D
I was a child when she died. I still remember the images of her car crashed and all the news about her funeral. It was a sad event, and it was so devastating watching her children in mourning.
Everyone loved princess Diana. Compared to today’s standards we had so little information about her, only what you’d see on the TV. But I remember even my mom, who had almost no interest in celebrities, cried when princess Diana died. She was just a good and noble person over all.
Not everyone loved her. And the media made her portrayal overly sympathetic only after her death. The same media was hating on her a lot while she was alive
My mum said that when Diana died we were out shopping. It came over the radio and apparently you could have heard a pin drop because everyone went silent.
In the UK not everyone loved her. I think that was part of the problem because many, but not all, of those people funded the tabloids who went after her for negative stories. Also you’ve got to remember that a not insignificant part of the population is indifferent to the Royal Family, including her.
I really wanna get into this show. I love how many time jumps it has, abandoning one setting for the next and thoroughly exploring the eras and their aesthetics. It's so odd to see a legit drama so frequently replace its cast.
My dad recently passed away from Cancer at the Royal Marsden and they adorn her pictures everywhere and it would be so lovely to look at her and my dad used to always be so happy that she had done so much for the Marsden, truly an amazing woman!
My mam has her biography and i was obsessed with looking at the photos in it and was devo when i found out she had died. I knew she was a fasion icon and an amazing woman when i was a little girl, that's how impactful Diana was x
Even though I was born in the 90s my mom always talked about Diana if anything remotely similar came up in conversation, she loves her!! The recent reinterest in her life/person has been so nice for her in particular and has been so fun to talk about because she truly was an amazing and strong woman
I grew up as a child and a teenager in the '90s, so I remember Diana very well even though I live in Finland where she wasn't such a big thing as in England. Still, her influence and humanitarian work has impressed everybody very much so no wonder people loved to talk good things about her - not disregarding the scandal mongers, though. I remember when she died I was very sad because it felt like something good has been taken from this world; even now, writing this, I feel the sadness coming, and I am not very emotional person. I haven't watched the third season of The Crown, but the images you showed from the real life events and magazines and the stills and scenes from the drama really epitomise the fashion of that decade to the point. And to get to know that she used fashion to show something to the world that she really wasn't even feeling at all and to make the children be at ease in her presence is very admirable but very exhausting to her, I can imagine. Thank you for this video, it is very informative and interesting.
This whole video made me want to watch this season! Fashion has a significant impact on the message you try to portray. Princess Diana had a massive effect on everyone, not because of how she looked but by her compassion for the people.
I’ve not seen the season but then again having been born the year she was married to Prince Charles I grew up with her sense of fashion of love of others often in the media.
“Thank you all again, I hope you have a lovely rest of your day. **stares into camera** Unless you’re prince Charles.” **stares into camera intensely** It’s like a scene straight out of The Office! I love it! 😂🖤🖤
This analysis is so good- lots of info and explanation not just on the historical implications but also the ones of fashion and film language! I'd love to see you do a video on Sofia Coppola's Marie Antionette x
I am a big Diana fan as well. I can remember being a child and being absolutely *STAGGERED* by her sapphire pearl choker (I grew up to be a royal jewelry maven lol), and I wanted one just like it, LOL. I always appreciated her as an adult because of her clear joy in motherhood (when my own was fraught with so much depression, anxiety and fear), and her willingness to be the not perfect royal, speaking publicly about her eating disorders and anxiety (check and check for myself as well). Diana was also the first royal and one of the first celebrities I ever saw embrace AIDS patients. My own father died from the disease so that holds a special place in my heart. She had this unusual quality about her that the moment I saw her, I could see that all she wanted was to be loved, and as a kid I could relate.
I was born in 1990 and even I remember how hugely influential Diana was back then. I used to think she was the most beautiful woman in the world because she reminded me of my mother.
I was born in 1987, so I was lucky enough to have been alive at the same time Diana was-- I still remember where I was the night she died (my family and I were driving back home from a vacation when they announced over the radio that Princess Di was killed in an automobile accident and it gave me chills, especially since we were driving at night)! She was a truly spectacular woman! You could see from the way she interacted with young William and Harry just how much she adored her sons, and her interactions with others, she just exuded a warmth and approachability not many were used to seeing with royalty. It's obvious that she was a deeply caring person and it's a tragedy she was taken from us too soon! It's funny going back and looking at old media of a young Diana Spencer with Prince Charles with the hindsight we have now, because you could see from her body language that she wasn't comfortable being in the spotlight, or even holding the princess title she got from her marriage. Compared to media of her engaging with "the common folk" where she appeared bright and effervescent, and radiating this comforting warmth... pictures with Charles may have seemed "happy" on the outside, you could see a rigidity in her body that practically screamed just how uncomfortable and overwhelmed she was. You could even see a sadness in her eyes when she was pictured with Charles, even though she put on a brave face, you could see she was in a lot of pain emotionally because she knew about his adultery with Camilla, and that her marriage was essentially a sham. It was a terrible tragedy that we lost her so young, when she still had so much left to give to her sons and the world. She truly was The People's Princess.
I was born the year before she died, so I also don't know much about Diana but I've loved learning about her! it's so cool she thought about who she'd be interacting with when she chose her outfits and wanted to wear things to invite people in.
I was born in late '83, and remember my whole childhood was so full of Diana in the news it was just normal. I even remember the night she died and being in shock that someone that larger than life could just....die. The fallout was enormous, even over here in the states. The whole thing was and is a damn tragedy.

I was born in 99 so I have no idea what she was like but hearing the way you describe her and her fashion choices just makes me wish she was still around so I could get a glimpse of what an ethereal being she was
my mom was, and still is obsessed with Diana and she passed that obsession down to me, seeing Emma portray her so perfectly and seeing that the costume design was so thought out made the season for me, I'd watch it again just for Diana
I just recently found your channel and I must say, it is simply immaculate. I love your unique style and the way in which you speak. You seem like a brilliant young lady and I look forward to your future videos. It is clear that you put a lot of effort into them and your creativity as a whole inspires me, keep it up 💖
I think you're right about the black dress! I also think it could be a reference to the black dress she wore her first public engagement. As she wasn't part of the royal family yet (she had recently gotten engaged but wasn't married yet) she was able to pick her own dress, and she picked a black one as she herself said she "thought it was the grown up thing you could wear at 19" and, to no one's surprise, Charles judged her for wearing black saying it was only for mourning
I don't know if you saw but Netflix just released a UA-cam video about the costume design of this season! It's really interesting! And great video by the way
Wow I didn’t know the reasons behind all those outfit choices! Despite born in 1997 a few months before her death, growing up in Australia I feel like almost every person knows who Lady Diana was and the humanitarian work she did. Although I’m still learning. I haven’t finished the Crown yet but I do hope we get to see more of her kindness and warmth in future episodes.
At 12:07--I have watched and rewatched this episode a number of times and compared it with numerous reports and documentaries on Diana and I truly believe that he is not "threatening her" so much as warning her. In real life, Philip was famously on her side for many of the marital issues.
I'm a huge fan of the podcast "You're Wrong About" and recently they did a deep dive on the life and death of Diana. Highly recommend giving it a listen! But most importantly, great work! I loved this video.
Thanks for mentioning me in your video Mina! BTW - I styled Mina the way I used to look in the 80's - LOL!
No wonder that look reminds me of Diana during the 80's. Classic.

The actress absolutely loves Diana too! I read about it in vogue she’s a huge Diana fan so it’s literally perfect !
And they almost never pick someone similar to real person
British casting directors are amazing at casting. So I’m not surprised.
She looks quite different as a brunette though.
Eleonore Bon totally !! The hair makes it honestly
I assume they are saving the humanitarian looks for next season and making the change ti be more like an arc for dramatic reasons.
She was in the middle of a big project of bringing awareness to and funding the removal of hundreds of thousand of land mines in places like Angola, Vietnam etc. She didn’t get to finish that mission unfortunately. It’s such a huge issue even to this day.
that is so true.
Lol her charity work was still minor thing for her, and she didn't sacrifice as much as many other people do to help others. But people still praise famous and wealthy way too much. 🤔
Watch Christopher Hitchens.
Good points!
The death of her marriage and also possibly the death of who she used to be
I picked up on that as well!
The death of their relationship.
The revenge dress was also iconic because royal woman don't wear black in public except when mourning, Diana wearing black in a public occasion was a clear signal to royal family
Also, I find it really funny that they showed that Diana didn't know in what order to great royal ladies.

The spiritual bondage Diana has over ethnic mothers needs to be explained.
😂😂😂
I think there's lots of identifying elements: Loving being a mother, loving her children, enjoying giving comfort and love to others who did not have it, enjoying helping out families & communities, being a pioneer through care, being self-less, being soft & warm while surrounded by assholes ,loving fashion, etc
And also the darker aspects:
Coming from potentially abusive households, being married into a family that follows restrictive and harmful traditions, having to endure horrible men, being cheated on, being told how to be and how to act at all times from a young age, getting married too young, having children too young, etc.
“i hope y’all have a lovely day unless you’re prince charles” lmao

I have to agree. 80s fashion done by Princess Diana is on another level. Beautiful
That's British production for you , they're so good at that . I LOVED this season .
Right!! She just MAKES all of these 80s clothes that might be tacky or over the top on somebody else look so elegant and classy!
I thought so too, but I really got to like the 80's evening wear/ high fashion
Yeah, I'm actually not a huge fan of a lot of Diana's clothes, but she wears them very well.
When you described how Diana would choose her wardrobe when meeting children or blind people etc. almost brought tears to my eyes. She was just an overall sweet soul.

Yeah but that was something very common back in those time im not saying it was correct... But my grandmother had 14 when she meet my grandfather and get married at 16
But can we talk about Princess Anne’s fashion? Her clothing was on point in season 3 and 4!
Exactly she’s such a baddie
Anne is so underrated
Yeeessss
I find it hard to believe the daughter of an Earl wouldn't know the etiquette of greeting the royal family members. That scene seems far fetched.
But...it's the crown. Almost every scene is a fantasy for metaphor sometimes because they can't mention facts since royalty still exists.

I was thinking the same thing. Apparently the Royals enjoy the show. I also was wondering about how they would portray the Prince Andrew :/

She also copied Diana’s hairstyle which made her look so much like her.
oh my god i laughed so loud when you inserted that "liar" clip after charles said i love you to diana because that was actually my irl reaction when i first watched the scene from the show
all mothers LOVE diana as if she was their childhood friend :’)
Bear in mind it’s fictional
But they did have a lot of control over her and they didn’t let her do a lot of public speaking or interviews
And to say that a researcher is biased in favour of the royal family because she points out this lack, I just don’t think that’s true.
Knowing that, I could see why that would be a color she went back to when she became more rebellious and decided to expose the royal family.
it was not a sweetheart neckline, it was a rather unattactive strapless thing
When Diana was in Australia for the tour she went out on a boat ride and my family was also out on the bay. My mother was the only child on the boat and distinctly remembers being waved at directly by Diana. Like one of those waves where you crouch a little and do a little wave so mum knew it was for her. She was so freaking happy!
Something I love about the outfit reproduction at the the start of the season particulary is that they aren't worn in their *famous* contexts (like the pink gingham pants and sweater) but that just makes them feel more like actual wardrobe items, that diana would wear more than once.

It’s the anti Prince Charles sentiment for me 👌🏼
They're relationship was so sad...it was so sad that the prince and princess of wales could never understand and love each other the way they both needed. Even so however, the costumes in the show adaption are just gorgeous.

Actors are nearly always better looking than the real people lol.

I love your style of clothes and ur so educated on these events it really fascinates me I can't even remember what people say to me 3 seconds ago.
I love the way you speak about the way she was treated because so many still forget how the royal family truly mistreated her.

Everyone loved princess Diana. Compared to today’s standards we had so little information about her, only what you’d see on the TV. But I remember even my mom, who had almost no interest in celebrities, cried when princess Diana died. She was just a good and noble person over all.
they all cried, there is rarity in these kind people that touch the hearts of the people all around the world , she was one of a kind
I felt sorry for her children but honestly I didn't like her. I think she was a good mother.

Ahh that Stars Wars clip at 8:46! Absolutely perfect, and exactly what I thought when seeing that scene!
Diana will always be an icon
This whole video made me want to watch this season! Fashion has a significant impact on the message you try to portray. Princess Diana had a massive effect on everyone, not because of how she looked but by her compassion for the people.
My mother was a fan of Diana, and so I thought I knew alot about her, but didn't think an analysis on her fashion would make me love her even more
I’ve not seen the season but then again having been born the year she was married to Prince Charles I grew up with her sense of fashion of love of others often in the media.
“Unless you’re Prince Charles” I laughed out loud 😂😂😂
“Thank you all again, I hope you have a lovely rest of your day.
**stares into camera**
Unless you’re prince Charles.”
**stares into camera intensely**
It’s like a scene straight out of The Office! I love it!
First time watching the show and every time Diana was on screen I always had a smile on my face!
Your eyebrows and blue eyeshadow are iconic.
I was born the year before she died, so I also don't know much about Diana but I've loved learning about her! it's so cool she thought about who she'd be interacting with when she chose her outfits and wanted to wear things to invite people in.
Omg I only just made the connection that David Emanuel who designed Diana's dress is the same guy from Say Yes to the Dress UK
It’s interesting at first but he does bring up at tad too much in the show I feel.
I was born in late '83, and remember my whole childhood was so full of Diana in the news it was just normal. I even remember the night she died and being in shock that someone that larger than life could just....die. The fallout was enormous, even over here in the states. The whole thing was and is a damn tragedy.
'83 here also! I'm a spring baby
@@victoriadiesattheend.8478 Born on the Autumnal Equinox, the cusp of Virgo and Libra, AND a full moon...my life of cantankerous shenanigans was set! Lol! Also...us '83 babes are just the best - no bias or anything. 🎃👻🐈⬛🪦🧡🖤
Mina, your makeup is always on point! love your brows and colorful eyeshadow😍
I was born in 99 so I have no idea what she was like but hearing the way you describe her and her fashion choices just makes me wish she was still around so I could get a glimpse of what an ethereal being she was
Dude, the next 2 seasons are going to be in the 90s, so we have more outfits to come :)
my mom was, and still is obsessed with Diana and she passed that obsession down to me, seeing Emma portray her so perfectly and seeing that the costume design was so thought out made the season for me, I'd watch it again just for Diana
I just recently found your channel and I must say, it is simply immaculate. I love your unique style and the way in which you speak. You seem like a brilliant young lady and I look forward to your future videos. It is clear that you put a lot of effort into them and your creativity as a whole inspires me, keep it up 💖
I love how the designer took it as an opportunity to reinterpret the iconic outfits as well. Most people don’t mention that.
The Revenge dress is everything! And adore this vid xx
I was lucky to live through the Princess Diana era. Thank you for posting this. A lot of young women looked up to the Princess style and strong will.
I think every single one of our mothers had an obsession with princess diana 💀💀
In real life, Philip was famously on her side for many of the marital issues.
the way i cried with the ending of this video,,,your words were so well put and the research was just amazing! love you mina
I'm a huge fan of the podcast "You're Wrong About" and recently they did a deep dive on the life and death of Diana. Highly recommend giving it a listen!
But most importantly, great work! I loved this video.
Your blush (placement and color) is extravagant!
So well-researched and beautifully written. I was born in the 80s so Lady Diana was my first ever style icon! Along with Joan Collins in Dynasty 🤩
