I'm glad you mentioned that your customers need them. Because I was thinking that was a lot of lettuce
For one family.
my jaw dropped when you used a bolt (probably from working on a car) to make getting them out of the starter trays so easy. Been watching lots of vids over the past couple weeks but it's just smart. Never thought to push out from the bottom; ppl usually say to grab from stem or leaf
oh how I wish my garden looked that good!
Your garden is absolutely AMAZING! Your rows of lettuce had me astounded lol. I’m just getting started out learning the basics of gardening and this is such an inspiration. Keep up the hard and great work. God bless!
All my lettuce starts are on the brink of death daily. Same with my tomatoes, basil, broccoli, you name it they struggle and all have signs of disease, over-watering, under-watering, nutrient deficiency, and over-feeding. Soil is usually too alkaline or too acidic as well. I really don't understand how so many like Josh make it look so easy. Sometimes I just wanna smack em' cause they're so darn good, lol.
I wish I had a garden field like yours
Gnna send your channel to my mom. She binges garden channels all day.
Awesome. Hope she likes the videos!
Factual, to the point, efficient! Not trying to impress us with your greatness!🙂 Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Oh, how beautiful it's.....your Garden
Thank you so much. Gave me so much insight. Beautiful garden x
Thanks Josh . Your vids are the best man.
Beautiful garden, thanks for sharing and thanks for the info.
Wow Josh, just wow!!
Enjoyed seeing your garden!
I like the trees near by. My garden is interwoven through some trees. Plants still get at least 7 hours of full sun as the shade spots rotate thru the day. In N.C. summers are so hot now it actually saves the plants from long periods of extreme heat. Thanks
Your lettuce rows look insane. Along with your red Russian kale
Thanks Jack. Lettuce is my main crop.
@@JoshSattinFarming I planted in front of house…i spray with hose and eat often, Romaine…beautiful. Will try freeze drying them next! Rabbits and smoothies food!
100k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
congrats. you deserve it. best farming/gardening content around. Aloha
Great work
I love your garden so much. 😍😍😍
Thank you!
Great video! Going to be transplanting some myself today!
Beautiful garden🥰
Thanks for crankin out the content. Much appreciated
You're welcome. Hope it's been helpful.
Man, you keep everything neat as a pin! That's some crazy energy. :) (Whatever you're on, we all need some, dude.)
Just hard work and attention to detail.
Love your tips! Thank you!
You're welcome!
Omg I got 80 lbs from just 6 patty pan plants this past year. Hold on to yr squarshes, this season is gonna be wild!!
Looks great. Hugs
Love your channel !!!
Thank you! Glad you are enjoying it.
Been a new viewer and subscriber and just loving your videos! I have a couple quick questions hopefully that you can answer:
1) how many cells do you use for your larger plants like your cucumbers/squash?
2) do you use a sterile starter or a potting mix? If you use sterile, do you add nutrients when they get to this size?
Thanks so much! You have become my go to channel for small farming :)
This is actually my first year for lettuce. I dealt with the dreaded Squash Beetle last year. But I am growing mine right now in trays and I set up my beds. Im just doing some small beds right now until spring. But your plants are great looking!
Wow nice garden
Thanks for sharing
Beautiful lettuce beds
Great video thx
😍 gorgeous
Nice!!!🙌🙌🙌
What I’ve read about squash beetles is to try vertical gardening. I didn’t even get a single squash or zucchini last year. I’m going to try growing it vertically and trimming off the bottom leaves. Fingers crossed 🤞!!
Which trellis system do you recommend? I saw a neat channel where she had strong post over EACH SQUASH PLANT! Strings and my cukes are a hassle!
Beautiful garden. Lots of planting. Love cucumbers no.1 I likes gardening. My garden name garden of love. Thanks you for sharing. Good work. From Saipan CMNI 670 area code near Guam.
I like your method of making "mixed lettuce varieties". It's far more efficient than trying to grow separate beds.
And it looks pretty
yep, using cell trays for plants that can handle transplanting is an efficient use of space in the plot and time, so you have reliable crops that take least time from tranplanting to harvest.
no repotting and no unreliable seed starting outside.
should move your starter light closer, that's some really bad stretching.
you can grow them a bit bigger too. I have to start my cucumbers and squash early since my season is super short, about a month before I plan to put them out. usually they have 1-2 true leaves before they go out and get set back a little, but they come back nice and strong. been doin it this way for years and my parents did it like that for years before that.
also when you plant them you should bury them up to the first set of leaves so they don't snap, the young stems are delicate.
Thanks for this. What are you using for dirt for the seedlings?
Is there a video on interplanting the basil with the tomatoes? That’s cool! I direct sowed cucumbers and two came up together. Do you think they’re okay to separate?
this is lovely...i want a bed like. this....🤗
Switching to metric makes the tape a whole lot easier with spacing...
So pretty! Does the cucumber need something to grow up?
How come bugs don’t eat all those green salads and everything else?
Just found your videos today... Very good videos! Out of curiosity, do you ever trellis your squash or cucumbers to save space & easier harvesting? Thanks. I'm working with relatively small raised bed gardens 5'x6' or 5'x10' & a few 2'x2' boxes. Appreciate any input of a small backyard "farmer".
I'm curious about this too. I'm translating this week, and will be attempting to trellis my zucchini and squash.
I used the ziplock method for squash and cucumbers. It worked then it grew very good roots so I transplanted them into a cup yesterday. 2 hours later I noticed them droopy and cucumbers leafs got dark green. They only have 2 tiny leafs. Am I on the right direction or did I kill them?🥺
I just transplanted my cucumbers and I'm afraid coz it's just 10days old. Hope it will survive..I planted them directly on the ground too
Are you watering the cucumbers with the overhead sprinklers?
Is it okay that the zuchini looked totally floppy when you planted them?
Very good content!!! How you keep the leach away from your lettuce 🥬 ?
Thank you. I don't have that issue with my lettuce, sorry.
I'm gonna add some chicken manure to my cucumber plant after few days if my transplant will survive.😰... Will it be okay?
I marked what I planted on the seed cell tray, it washed off lol I know what families I planted so I know where and how to plant but I get to be surprised by what the plants put off 😂🤪
How do you avoid transplant shock on your cucumbers? I always do soil blocks for cucumbers because they are often stunted for a week or two by transplant shock.
Part of it is that his cucumbers are really young - the true leaves are just starting. The transplants are well-watered. The bed is well-watered before he starts. And he waters them in well after transplanting.
Adding shade cloth for the first week will help.
I moved the cucumber starts to thin them, to larger cells but they are showing transplant shock and look dead, can i revive them?
James plants “sacrificial” Hubbard squash to attract pests away from cukes and squash.
How far into the summer do you grow lettuce?
Are you starting these in the grrenhouse or indoors?

Hi new subscriber here, how and what are you using to have such dark luscious soil?
Compost
Wow..
dont you have issues with squash borer
Hi, Can we plant the patty pans deep I case they're leggy..mine are around 5 inch leggy seedlings
I don't see why not. I would probably prune off any lower leaves that will get buried before planting. Although if they are leggy going into the ground they might not be successful transplants anyways.
Did you plant these by the moon?
9+18 is, uhhh.. just plant it right here! Lol, cut! Calculator time.
My starts look weak and ugly. Can I or should I water them with a water soluble fertilizer. Second year trying to get into starting my own mini urban garden. Help lol...
It's tough to tell what's wrong here. There are a lot of variables and it also depends on which type of plants you are growing.
@@JoshSattinFarming 4 cabbage, 8 sugar snaps, 1 not growing Jalapenos, 8 small Banana peppers, 4 radishes French, 4 long beans with itty bitty beans I just found. It's been cold unseasonably and more rain than usual. I'm in 6 zone Upstate NY and my nights have and are still 40 degrees at night.
@@JoshSattinFarming BTW thank for ur response. It's so appreciated.
I have a cucumber plant that is growing too close to another one,can I take it out and plant it again a little further?
Hi, I'm not a master gardener, just fairly experienced. I'd say yes, u can, if u can, if they're pretty small yet. Take as much soil with it as u easily can & only if u can avoid damaging the roots of both too much. Fill in void with soil from elsewhere. But u can just leave it, too, as cucumbers don't mind, in my experience. traditionally, they r planted in groups of 3 or so in a "hill" method, in those cases they are a few inches apart, but when they end up closer, i've just left em.
AJ Burton sadly 3 of my cucumber plants died, too much rain, wind and scorching sun. I have 1 left in ground and 1 in a tub that re looking good and weather has gotten just a bit better it thank you for your response.
Nice video .. are those bush cucumbers?
Thanks. We are going to trellis them.
How much water do you add to the bottom tray?
Just enough to cover the bottom of the bottom tray. I just eyeball it. If it's still wet under there then don't add water.
If my cucumbers are a bit leggy can i plant them a bit (or even a lot) deeper?
@Timothy Randolph Thank you but I don't have any sunnier window sills and my plants already are leggy so how to fix it when I'm planting out into the garden?
@Timothy Randolph You don't get what I mean... I have leggy plants and want to make them shorter and stronger initially just before planting outside in full sun.
@Timothy Randolph Look. I didn't ask an open question I just want to know if I can plant cucumbers deeper on not. I know I can plant tomatoes deeper but not 100% sure about cucumbers but thanks I gues I will need ti try anyway because I will not get a straight answer.
Gregory May i planted mine deeper and they grew stronger over night!!
What soil mix do you use for the seed starts??
Sungro Professional Growing Mix
Sweet thanks!
@@apollothealchemist You're welcome!
Get a stick or something cut 18 inches long. Fastest method for accurate spacing.
I have tried that method and it wasn't as accurate for me. It is simple though. If you are off by a little bit each time it multiplies over the course of the bed. It only takes a minute to set up the measuring tape. Lots of ways to do stuff, but this has been working well for me.
At what distance do you space your lettuce?
4 rows on a 30" bed spaces 6" apart in row
Josh Sattin thank you!
@@mischapannell You're welcome!
Do you water after transplanting using your irrigation system or differently?
I used to water everything in by hand after transplanting or direct seeding, but I have been turning on my irrigation system lately to do this. It's mainly to save time. We haven't been getting very much rain here so I have to irrigate a lot.
Thank you for your reply! I found your videos today and subscribed after the first one! Now I’m trying to catch up on all the amazing information I’ve missed!
Hopefully not together!
