Master is the Head of the College and leads the fellows. Each college is a self governing foundation which supports the university, they are NOT 'departments' of the university.
Some Colleges call the end of Term review 'Handshaking' because you don't shake hands, unless you have done so badly the Master shakes your hand 'goodbye'.
