Faucet backflow preventer removal

Backflow preventer failure was evident by consistent spraying out of the vent holes upon turning off the faucet after regular use under regular conditions. When you turned the faucet off, water sprayed out of the vent holes and made a watery mess! The backflow prevention nozzle (adapter thing) was locked onto the faucet threads by this screw whose head was snapped off intentionally by design. I used an 1/8 inch carbide drill bit and applied general purpose oil whole drilling it the locking screw. I stopped drilling when I saw the hose threads through the hole I drilled. Then I used a channel-lock pliers, and removed the backflow preventer nozzle from the faucet.

Thanks for making this video. We moved into our home almost 4 years ago and it has 3 of these backflow preventers (1 in the garage) and they spit out water when I shut the spigot down. WHY? I'm looking to take them off of replace the spigot all together.

I actually just removed mine last night. Thought about drilling but was worried about messing up the threads to the bib. Used my angle grinder and just carefully “shaved” down the area where the set screw is. The screw eventually just fell out on its own when I got close to the threads if that makes sense. then used channel locks to unscrew the rest of the vacuum breaker

I think it similarly loosened up when the drill started to get close to the threads. I've used the faucet many times since and there's been no problems with threads or sealing or anything like that.
