- Rocky Mountain National Park can be a dangerous place to visit in the winter if you are not prepared. Most of the popular trails are covered in thick ice from mid-October until mid-May. On almost every day of the week during the winter period, you'll find visitors who are completely unprepared for the icy trails. In this video I discuss how you can hike these trails with ease and safety.

Totally extended my hiking season, microspikes are a must have. Thanks, Erik!!
They really do make a real difference. Thanks for watching Michelle! Fun to see you on here!
Great tip! Great video!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks again for f great video! We wore our spikes on all our hikes during the last of Oct. and the first 12 days of Nov. Made our hikes much more enjoyable.
That’s great Sherry!
I highly recommend those micro spikes! We bought some for a winter trip to the park and they worked so well on icy trails. We've even had to use them in May! Totally worth buying or renting!
Totally agree. :)
Hi there is this video in the past weeks? I am planning to go there Dec 1-2 and wondering if the park is still accessible?
Yes, this was filmed just last week. From Bear Lake upward you can expect snow and ice. Below that it is mostly snow free at the moment.
