We've been using this recipe for long years and we love it . The only changes I made is I use tapioca starch not the arrowroot and I double everything ( my family is like wood chippers they need a double amount :) fedandfit.com/paleo-blueberry...

OMG..When I was little, I am 58, we celebrated St. Nicolas Day the same way. We would get a bag with a small toy, fruit and candy. My grandma would do it for me and my sister. We originate from Czechoslovakia. Brings back good memories. Love your decorations and your videos.💖
In Greece and Australia our Greek community also celebrate Saint Nicholas on the 6th of December

In Germany we celebrate the 6.12. too🥰 it s called Nikolaus
We celebrate St Nicholas day in the Czech Republic as well :) he comes with the “devil” and angel to children’s homes and gives little presents like sweets and fruit to those who were good :) we hang a stocking on the window for St Barbara who comes on 4th :) I love those traditions and hope to keep them alive for my daughter even though we live abroad. Beautiful decoration!
I am so amazed and delighted to see a Christmas mini sack that just includes minimal presents. In England kids expect designer clothes foot wear, computers , iPhones.etc. It’s a nightmare for parents. You have go it so right. Beautiful home. Gorgeous ideas. Thank you. Our family is German and we had our kids put out shoes for St. Nicholas day too! Even when they knew about Santa Claus it is still fun to do

Some of my fondest childhood memories are from Christmas. We use to use popcorn and cranberries to make garland.When my children were elementary age I would make salt dough ornaments to give to their classmates. Now I do that for my granddaughter's class. Your decorations are beautiful. Very festive.

Hi Noemi! I made your cookies yesterday! I eat gluten free and am not a very confident baker because of that, so I scooped the cookies instead of rolling out and cutting them. I used a small cookie scoop (1 T?), and the recipe made 25 cookies. I baked at 350 F for 10 minutes. They have the BEST texture, like chewy candy almost. If anyone out there needs to count carbs, it came out to 21 g carbs for each cookie. SO YUMMY!!! Thank you for sharing this recipe, Noemi! Mmmm.

I had no idea St Nicolaus was a thing in Hungary aswell, we celebrate it in Germany pretty much the same way! If anyone is interested, the story behind it is that St Nicolaus would always help all the poor and orphan children and bring gifts. The 6th of December is the nameday of Nicolaus/ Nicolas in the Catholic calender, so all the kids get presents. Traditionally it would be candy and fruit, as much as can fit into their boots (that's why Noemi mentioned cleaning the boots and putting them out). In Germany he doesn't have lots of little helpers, but only one big one, called “Knecht Ruprecht“ or Rupert in an angicized version. He has a naughty/ nice list and if you were nice, you get all the good stuff. If you were naughty, you would get a pack of coal. (No idea whether that ever happened to any child, but that's what they warn you of).
If that story rings bells, you won't be surprized that in the anglicized tradition St Nicolaus changed to Stanta Clause and instead of boots he fills stockings and was simply included into the existing christmas traditions...
Thanks for the story. I'm in the states but my fathers family was from Germany so we got treats in our shoes as you described. Our friends thought it was strange but I liked being different. My son grew up with a stocking (fits more) but I'd also stuff something in his shoe.

In Lorraine (France) where I come from, we also celebrate La Saint Nicolas on December 6th. With treats like chocolate and sweets for the children, and also a beautiful Saint Nicolas parade in the streets. I love all these traditions. Your videos are so lovely, thank you!

My fathers family was German and my moms family was Hungarian. We used to get the treats in our shoes also. My friends thought it was strange. I never had an actual stocking until I was given one by my college boyfriend. Your tree is lovely. Decorated with love!

Is the little devil Krampus? Having lived in Germany when I was a child, I has happy to see you continue the custom. I even continue the Advent calendar with my very grown children. I fill a holiday shopping bag up with little gifts and hand it to them after Thanksgiving...then every day until December 24 they get to pick out one treat.

Beautiful home and ideas! Putting yummies on the tree reminds me of my mom's childhood Christmases in Yugoslavia. She said the tree always had treats on it. I'd love to do that but our dogs would ruin it. Lol. We do but a candy pack from Aldi and hang those chocolates from the tree from santa. Also, I'm so envious that your decorations fit into 2 small boxes. We have 3 totes! I wanted to get it down to 1 but hopefully I can at least get it down to 2. Thank you for sharing!!
