I believe 60 Royal Marines died in total during the Afghan campaign, which means roughly 15 % of the 404 British servicemen who were killed in action. Marine Sparks was only 19 at the time he died.
Great production of our greatest warriors, sworn to protect her Majesty and her government and people. Yet out there protecting freedom and democratise of ordinary people of a country I had to look up when this first started. A professional, volunteer army is a career like any other. Different people might join it for different reasons, but, whatever their reasons are, it is preferable to have people who go to war on their own free will and fully understanding the risks than people who are forced to do it (like in Vietnam) because they have been drafted by their government.

my gpa is 2.0, I've already come to terms that I won't go to collage just because I can draw, or because I can write characters and stories, or philosophical poetry. By the time I finish highschool that felid will be too competitive and only the best of the best will be successful. And I don't really think my art or writing or my poetry is enough. I'm thinking of joining the military, at least I'll have food and a purpose.
You dont need college to be successful. I never went to college and I make more money now than I did in the service. Just remember infantry does not get paid alot unless you are a commanding officer which you need to go to college to be one and all the other top paying occupations in any branch of the military go to the ones who score the highest on the ASVAB test.
