Ok. Well, if you’re referring to his physical condition, that’s not the perception or paradigm I am speaking of. I am proud of his developing skills. Are you aware I trained with him and his dad pre-Covid at RPBJJ?

Weird to say that in a sport where many old school champions would often win tournaments by taking an advantage or at best a 2-point sweep and then stall…
It's interesting to see how fast paced this match is compared to watching matches with Gordon Ryan, where it appears to be more about control and progressive attacks, rather than these young bloods who are high intensity as if they're looking for a surprise submission.
There is always a difference in pace and style between the higher and lower weight classes. Gordon competes against the big boys at heavy, these guys compete at 154-168. Heavyweight athletes have less range of motion/flexibility, but a lot of isometric strength (and size) so a top-heavy game is often the winning strategy, which requires some patience. The lower weight classes are highly flexible, and fast, and guard retention is so much better, so often the "path" to victory is a mix of top/bottom play & taking more aggressive risks to get a submission. Gordon said himself he could not easily pass Mikey M. His style is suited for beating other big guys like him, get on top, cook them, and break them if you can't get a fast tap. At the lighter classes, float passing and stand passing (instead of tight pressure) seems to be the preferred passing style against the guards of those divisions.
@@chrisalfar I just watched some matches from your channel and you seem more methodical and similar to Gordon in your matches. What weight are you competing at?
@@markbowen8461 I don't know how much BJJ experience you have, but IMO Gordon is technically way ahead of everyone is just about every division, regardless of his strength or roid ability. Keep in mind there is such thing as an absolute division. So if there is someone who is more technical than Gordon, he might try muscling, but the person who is technically and startegically superior to him, will beat is pure strength. He will be beaten, but right now I can't see it happening. Maybe the new generation will be the ones to do that.
Different digital cameras record at different qualities or FPS (frames per second) any time you are looking at a video you are actually looking at still images but they can take so many still images that our brain can’t tell that is what’s really happening. Sometimes when you upload you lose some of that quality and its causes a glitchy look to the video because the quality of the FPS to degrade with the upload due to software or the camera. The glitchy look is the FPS getting slow enough we can actually notice them.
It is good to see these Gi & NoGi guys winning in a format that clearly favours the only NoGi guy. Damian does only NoGi but still Cole comes and beats him in his own game.
Also Cole has been training since he was 3 or 4. Pretty sure Damien only started when he was 18/19 plus came in on short notice. Good competitive match either way.
Something off with the shudder speed or something like that. Looks almost sped up or stop motion at times, very odd filming. Why is it so hard to do anything right?
@@berzerkfury1459That sentence makes no sense. 😂 All players has a favourite game and that is either from the bottom or the top. Super fun match. Props to B-team for always taking last minute matches
Also props to B-Team for sticking to their philosophy of going for 2nd place

Such a focused, composed, well raised and polite young man. I am a huge fan and wish him all the best.
Yeah and Cole also handled hinself well
Damiens leg lock defense and countering is insane
so many cool guard transitions...Cole Abate is so creative. Damien is a beast!
These guys are insanely good at bjj.
This footage seems sped up or its a weird frame rate from the cameras
High frame rate and high shutter speed. Plus they move incredibly smooth
Amazing jiu jitsu on display here.
Cole is so good man
Great to watch Cole develop his game.
Gross. I mean technically he's 18 now, but still.

Amazing match.

I remember the days of when you won, you actually won, and when you lost, you actually lost. This was a draw. There needs to be a change.

Damien caked out.
How this matches are judged without any position points?
id assume its some thing along the lines of most sub attempts and how effect they are and if thats even probably control
WNO prioritizes aggression first, I think. Then sub attempts, then positional dominance. I think.
Can someone tell me who the ref is? I have seen him in many matches and I was wondering. Thanks in advance!

Cole didnt only do gi cole does it his whole life and damien is very high level very good match

so i'm really, really new to BJJ, but why is it when i see these types of matches its all leg lock attempts?
Damien is good scrapper and on feet he would defeat cole so cole plays safe game and his leg locks are good this new generation is full of leg lockers
Why is Flograppling speeding up the video? Its disturbing me

Damien won it but didn’t get the decision

Flo really re-uploaded a bunch of Cole Abate stuff just to try and make "Ice" Cole happen.......
Great match, but I hate how someone can get the judges favor when they're conceding to play bottom, even if their bottom game is exceptional.
It is weird to win when you are mostly playing defense.
Bottom is a losing position no matter how good you are.

Stop speeding matches up it's annoying
how could Cole understand Portuguess?? Isnt he a american?

Nigga what u talkin abt this was rlly competitive matches b team iss on top rn nicky rod is takin over and jay coming up too
Why is the match sped up? Classic Flo grappling garbage. And cool more feet touching, just what Bjj needs “what a match”
15 minutes match time coincides with 15 minutes YT time, and 15 minutes on my timer, so I don't see where you're seeing that this was 'sped up'
Nothing more annoying than watching a match go 50/50 on leg locks. So boring. This is why i enjoy Gi a lot more.
Your first sentence actually describes the current major problem in the Gi Competitions 😂
Boring boring boring… leg attack matches are the worst matches to watch drives me insane
