I never noticed how unique Filipino song instrumentations really were until I got at ease with a lot of Western songs and finally made comparison with teleserye OSTs. Before that it all felt like I couldn't point it out but I knew there was something different lol
That kind of instrumentation is literally almost every Filipino ballad. And yes, it does sound weird even to me, a Filipino HAHAHHA. Nevertheless, Filipino ballad is beautiful.
haha me too @Mielle Tan, guess what whenever I try to sing(just basically shouting) our dog barks at me, almost like he's competing against me, but he's probably just telling me to stop and he's got this "not again" look on his face too 😂
Johann Daño The fact that the dog made a dead stare, that means you clearly have to stop! 😂 Like don't even try doing that again 😂😂 Oh god. I just wish I had a great singing voice 🤣🤣
There are times in life when you catch someone at the peak of what has been a lifetime of preparation, and it is beautiful to witness. I had no idea a human could sing this freely, she has a new fan for life.

The transition is not perfect though. I know that whistle and the modal register are disconnected. But there is a pretty huge gap when she did that transition.
that sound you're not used to literally embodies almost all filipino love songs.... Once you start hearing that particular type of instrumentation, with the violins and the smooth beats....you already know that filipino love song is going to be intense and the vocals normally need to be just as intense, if not more. That's why I LOVE filipino love songs....it strikes you a bit harder in your soul than the love songs in the US.
happycat85 the song talks about a person begging her loved one to be hers instead. "Akin ka nalang" means "please be mine instead"😂 I dont think that'll fit in any disney movie😂
Oh, and also on Wish bus, Rhett Lawrence has an interview about him taking on producing songs for Morissette with Capital Records, so she will be coming to the states big time. For those who are not familiar with his name, he was the writer/producer who started Mariah Carey and Kelly Clarkson's carriers, among many others.

Terri Bora same thought....when someone reacts on this cover...im actually waiting for their comments how she was able to sustain that loooooonnnngggg high solid notes....i really cant see how and logically speaking and "mortally" speaking it seemingly impossible...
It's because her voice is compressed to achieve that belt tone - very little to no air is passing across her vocal cords (Altho she's pushing from the abdom at great velocity). It's called glottal compression and ye it's literally like holding your breath while you sing :)
Gurl we have fiestas and singing contest local and big ones so yea that is the reason, because we as filipino's have very high standard for singers here in the Philippines.
Idk how many times I've watched this reaction video. I love Mori. Never fails to gives me goosebumps and pulls at my heartstrings. Jon Earl Manansala I agree with you. I love how he pauses the video to explain it. It was just a minute ago that I have realized the instrumentation. I think that is one of OPM distinct characteristics.

Noticeably different between what she does (tongue is behind the front teeth but low) and what you demonstrate (tongue is on the bottom teeth starting to push forward, which is better IMO, but the tongue is arched). This live performance of her song is way better than the studio recording of the same song she did 4 years ago.A sign of her big improvement for the past couple of years
Mori is my most favorite singer in the whole world after I have seen all her performances. She is a living legend in the making at such a young age. New subscriber here. You are a very smart reactor! You know how to analyze a performance.
MrsG87 Filipino songs didn’t grow out of the 90s. Filipino pop songs, rnb and ballads still has those elements until now. I don’t know, maybe Filipino songwriters had a concensus about that background music or something coz that’s always the case.

when she first auditioned to the voice ph, she barely got a coach to turn their chair. she's average at best during that time. she has improved so much in a short period of time. we all now she didnt do it by herself. credit to those brilliant vocal coaches in bringing out the best in her.
*Cocabhej* she did improve alot but she was already really good for her age, it's just that she sounded generic to alot of philipino that she didn't stand out. Remember when she was also considered as the next Sarah Geronimo. Things like that probably didn't help her case.
I kind of picked up on the same observation as you coach that Morissette's a bit nervous as well. She may have done it successfully many times over but I think that whenever tasked with a LIVE performance that requires whistle notes (especially on radio broadcast), she can't help but still be a little bit more anxious as compared to tackling a song which doesn't require any. This is so because there's no room for error (nor second takes). She has humbly admitted before that she's no stranger to whistle note fails. That's why I commend her for being one of the few (if not the only one) who's gutsy enough to consistently deliver on whistle note attempts live in public performances. There probably are a good number of vocalists capable of executing whistle notes but few dare do it in situations where the public's perception of their efficiency is on the line.
Oceanic Vibes yeah but using you 100 percent voice still different. Having that extra 30-20 percent is HUGE. It only means you cam do much much better while standing
