I´ve listened to many a marvellous Carnatic flautist, and I can honestly say that this man is the best of the lot. Lord Krishna himself would be proud!
To best of my knowledge, have not heard of any definition or restriction to the tempo set in carnatic music, it differs according to a musicians thought and ability to improvise on the composition also depends on the raaga at hand. In this composition the second half is set and normally heard in the second speed. Its extremely difficult to render a raga like naatai at a slow speed... It requires musical capability beyond the dimensions of instrument...he is a musical treasure and I am fortunate to be one of his disciples :-)
Rangarajan Venkatachari : taalam also depends on percussionists and audience. In Carnatic music everyine puts taalam and for a flautist whose two hands are engaged there is a difficulty to control everyone. There are many highly takented flautists whi can control. May be my inability
