Look no further, this is the most detailed video of the entire process. Paid $16 on Amazon instead of $73 at dealer and saved $385 labor. Thanks again!
I just attached the new actuator to the old cable instead of pulling off the wheel and paneling to route the new cable. I released the cable from the trunk first, but you can do that without removing any paneling or the wheel. There was also enough slack in the electrical/control connection to remove the old actuator and reattach the new actuator from the outside without any difficulty. I didn't even remove the plastic around the gas tank, just the actuator part. My entire replacement took 5 minutes. Thanks for showing how to get the actuator pulled out using the tabs, the tabs pulled out of the trunk connector, and the actuator electrical connector released! Kept me from ripping everything to pieces. By the way, the cable that goes to the trunk functions as a gas tank door release if for some reason the actuator breaks and you're locked out (you just open your trunk and pull it). Your video was very helpful. I'm thankful that the world is blessed with people like you helping others. Cheers,
As said in another comment, I did not have to take the wheel off or to remove the wheel well. I taped a small rigid electrical cable to the release cable on the new part and fished it through the hole in the trunk and I put the grommet in place. My old actuator was still working but I had several issues in cold freezing weather where the gas door would not open so I decided to change it. The part was 67$ CAD at my local Honda dealer and the job took me about 10 min to complete.
I'm having the same issue. It didn't want to open today at the pump. I. Assuming because the actuator went bad? Though I don't hear any noise. I'm curios if I should attempt to replace it or check the fuse first and check of the actuator is getting power? Or my 2018 Actuator probably needs to be replaced? Ended up breaking that plastic peice on the door trying to open the gas door to fill gas. As I was on empty. Probably froze, but curios if a new actuator will help to avoid that issue in the future?
@@mayeri3083 My actuator was still making noise before I replaced it. We get extremely cold temperatures where I live and since I changed the actuator, the gas door has been working flawlessly. I would order the new part and try replacing it by myself if I was you. My car is a Civic Coupe 2016 with only 64 000km.
@@jog9808 I see a Honda dealership has avlb to be shipped for $32. Debate is whether to be cheap on $16 savings. Or everything is all the same junk. And buy the cheapest I find. Also it's Amazon so I'll get it within a day or two.
I’m very happy that I found your video. I have a 2019 Honda Accord and mine is making that noise and I didn’t know what it was. I think I can change it myself. Thank you for this very detailed video!!!
There's an easier way to do this, and it can be done without taking the wheel off or removing the wheel well. Once you've freed the actuator from the clips, remove the cable from the mount on the side, then tie dental floss to that end and tie the other end of the floss to the looped end of the new cable. Drag the old cable out through the trunk and bring the new one in through the same opening. Just have needle nose pliers on hand to fit the grommet in place within the trunk. Doing it this way only took me about 15 minutes start to finish.
It's going to take me 4 hours just to understand how to get the door off. I'm not mechanically inclined but I'm not paying 400$ for this dumb unnecessary repair.
52fendertelecasster is right. However you can make it even simpler. After you have pulled the actuator out, remove the pull cable from the old actuator and move it to the new one. Manual unlock is now done. Don't go into the trunk at all. Then swap the electric fitting and you are done. The only new piece will be the actuator unit itself. About 5 minutes if you have done it before..
Mine seems to be frozen shut. I'm assuming the actuator of bad. Vs checking the fuse and to see that it's getting power? As it's in theblocked position and I had to manually force the door open. Didn't know there was a pulley in the truck. As they say you live and learn.
To eliminate the sound I removed the electrical connector that was attached to the actuator. I was able to access the connector without removing the tyres. Only replace the actuator if you want the fuel tank cap to have auto lock during the car locked condition.
I just replaced the actuator for a new one was fine for a few months and now the noise is back those actuators are garbage Honda needs to do something about this do some kinda recall don’t want to spend another 45 dollars on a new actuator. And yes I did but an oem Honda actuator.

Do I have to buy an original for $32, or can I buy an Amazon for $16?
@@mayeri3083 I bought the OEM part which was 67$ in Canada.

How did you unclip the actuator?
@@mayeri3083 Thin bladed item that could lift up one of the clips as I pulled the actuator forward.

What honda website did you get this from?
Thank you🙏🏽

Only replace the actuator if you want the fuel tank cap to have auto lock during the car locked condition.
Great video of this fix!
How many pins does it have in the Actuator connector.. 2?
Hello, thanks for the video!
Question - Would this be the same part and process for the 2017 civic?
Unfortunately for the civic itd be a different part..but process would be pretty similar

Don't buy a new actuator use a locking gas cap
You still want to have the door close. Also it's capless so how do I change that?
There’s no reason to lift the car
So how can I fix it 😫😫 I need a vid.
pointless technology lmao gas door does not need this
Lol yea..guess they needed some sort of locking mechanism
Its a capless fueled car. So need some cover that stays locked.
