This has nothing to do with this video, but I had a hand recently I wasn't sure what was correct, and I thought asking you would be the right thing to do. I got in tenpai with a hand with 2 triplets, one being a closed yakuhai. It was around the 9th discard (so about middle game). I decided to call Riichi, but I had to choose between 2 waits. One was a good ryanmen (waiting on 7 or 8 tiles), the other was a shanpon (waiting on 4 tiles). Would you say it's still better to call Riichi with the good wait here, or is there a world where I wait on the shanpon for the sanankou chance?
I can't give a concrete answer without knowing the exact situation (e.g. what round is it, what's the score distribution like, etc). So I will give you different answers based on hypothetical scenarios: Riichi on the shanpon if it's still in East round/if the score distribution is relatively flat. Nothing wrong with going for value in the East round. If it's South round and you have a considerable score lead, damaten for the ryanmen wait. If it's South round and you are in last place by a huge margin, riichi on the shanpon since you need to hit your value. If you have at least 2 dora in your hand, take the ryanmen wait. Usually it's correct to damaten for 3han 40fu and above, unless you are very far behind. If your hand is below 3han 40fu, then riichi. There isn't a one-sized-fits-all answer for this question, but the judgement you need to make is how much you want to sacrifice your tile acceptance in order to achieve your desired value.

That wasn't the first time I had this situation, where I had to choose between a chance at value with a bad wait versus a good wait, and I don't think any strategy book I read so far covered this situation, so thank you very much for your insight :D
