I love my morning coffee. I can’t do without it. For me I start the day with a double espresso, then a couple cups of really great black coffee. My current espresso machine is big and clunky and I’ve kind of decided that the espresso it makes just isn’t working for me any more, so I decided to explore some new options. That’s when I decided to buy the DeLonghi Nespresso Essenza Mini to see if it would fit the bill. I’ll tell you about my experience with it, what it can do, how it works and the pros and cons after having it in my home for a week.
DeLonghi Nespresso Essenza Mini review
Initially I was not into Nespresso, but a couple things changed my mind: after staying with friends (pre-pandemic) that both have Nespresso machines I found out I like the coffee and it’s a very quick and easy way to get espresso. Then I got to review a manual espresso pump for travel and camping. Nespresso pods are actually great for travel because there’s no grinding, and no mess. Sold on those aspects, I decided to get a Nespresso machine to see if it would fit into my daily coffee routine.
I chose the Essenza Mini because it’s small and unobtrusive, and because it offers two sizes of coffee. I don’t add milk to my coffee so all I wanted was something for straight up espressos.
Set up: DeLonghi Nespresso Essenza Mini
The set up of this machine is virtually non-existent; plug it in and power on. It’s ready to go immediately. The kit I bought also included a sample pack of Nespresso capsules, which was a nice way to try some new roasts.
When it comes to the specs, this machine gives you 19 bars of pressure from its high pressure pump and has a 20 ounce water tank. It’s super small and weighs almost nothing (about 5 pounds).

DeLonghi Nespresso Essenza Mini: Adjustable drink sizes
Though I didn’t realize it at the time, and the instructions don’t say so, you can actually program the exact size of drinks you want your Essenza Mini to make, for both the small size and the large. It comes out of the box programmed for a single shot from the small button, and then a five ounce pour for the large.
By pushing and holding the button while it;’s making an espresso, then letting go when you’ve got your desired amount, you are creating a new saved setting. Nest time you just touch the button your custom drink volume has been saved. I set mine so that the small button pours a single and the large a double.
Nespresso coffee & pods
We could get into a whole thing here about the environmental impact of pods. For the most part neither aluminum Nespresso pods, not plastic Keurig K-cups are recyclable in a lot of city’s recycling programs; they’re just too small. But I will say this about Nespresso; they encourage you to recycle the aluminium pods by including a pre-paid return bag with your order. I cracked on Keurig when I recently reviewed one of their machines, because they had no such program. Nespresso does, and I’m using it, so I do feel better about thier lineup.
When it comes to the coffees and their taste, there’s lots to enjoy. I find the coffees, packaged in their little cups to be fresh, and with the stunning number of different roasts, tastes, flavours and options, you’re bound to find some you like. I have a list of a few favourites already. Bottom line here, the coffee is good.
DeLonghi Nespresso Essenza Mini is very quiet!
By the way, both of the machines my friends have are loud and make a weird buzzing noise, but this machine is so quiet! I definitely don’t need to worry about waking anyone in the house up when I make my espresso.
Overall I’ve been really wowed by how much I love this machine. It’s super small, and takes up hardly any space in my kitchen; it’s about a quarter the size of my current machine, a Jura. The coffee it makes is delicious, hot, thick and with a beautiful crema, and I love that I can customize the sizes so it’s perfect for me. The water tank is plenty big enough so that I don’t feel like I’m refilling it constantly. For those who want a bigger water tank, there are larger machines out there with more features.
If there are any downsizes to this machine, for some it might be that you can’t adjust the water temperature, but for me this was not an issue. Others may point to the environmental impact of aluminum pods.
Overall, I am in love with this machine. It’s been an awesome addition to my coffee routine and I can definitely recommend it for you. The DeLonghi Nespresso Essenza Mini sells for about $179CAD though I have seen iton Amazon for about $149 CAD, or about $139USD. - Наука та технологія

Thank you I watched several reviews, yours was by far the best, looking forward to getting my Essenza
Thank you for the compliment 😊😊
I didn’t know the customized volume feature! thanks! I love your reviews!
So nice to hear, thanks for watching!
I recently bought this machine and the size is perfect for my kitchen. I chose the Nespresso because I wanted to use compostable pods and they have the recycling programme. Although I will be using compostable pods the majority of the time.
Are you a professional news reporter??? If not you definitely SHOULD be, great review!
Thank you! :)
I agree such a strong presence and nice voice, thank you for the lovely review 👍
Wow, I was wondering the exact same thing!
Awesome Erin! It’s nice to have a tiny coffee machine. 👍🏻👍🏻
It really is!
i just bought one at Costco. There is a sale on for $140 with the frother. The frother alone is about $99. So glad to hear you love your coffee. I so need this when I am on early calls first thing in the morning. Will put this in my coffee. Love that it is fast and so convenient. Thank you so much for the great review.💞
My pleasure Ana!
Thanks Erin, just watched your review and purchased one off eBay here in Australia. Looks to be exactly what I need. Cheers.
Glad I could help! Cheers!
Finally a review with watching giving me everything I need to know, I'm buying it tomorrow with the geothermal yay!!!
Fantastic, thank you! And enjoy!
Thanks Erin for the great review. It will be perfect for the motorhome. Much appreciated!
Agreed Gillian!
over in the UK you cal also get 3rd party capsules in supermarkets which can be more convienient and offers other flavours / brnds such as Starbucks or Carte Noir.
I've had this machine for about a year and I love it. I had Tassimo before, but it can't compare!
So glad to hear that!
Great review. Very informative, efficient and smooth presentation, just like Nespresso coffee :) Thanks.
Haha! Thank you!
Many thanks for your balanced review!
My pleasure!
This is so helpful!! Thank you!
You're so welcome!
Thanks Erin I just purchased this machine 1/2 hour ago! I couldn’t find where to get the used capsules out… but I can see it in the video. The machine is perfect for me and I just add milk a zap in the microwave for 1 minute to make a perfect flat white. I paid $159 NZ $. Rachel ☕️
Hope you enjoy it! Would love to hear your own feedback after you try it!
You would make a good newscaster. good review!
Nice video fun and informative, superbly done, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
best video i have found so far!
Wow, thanks! ☺️
Thank you for the review. This machine is coming tomorrow. I sold my Breville espresso machine as I just couldn't get the hang of it and get a consistent cup of espresso. Quick question. When you say you press and hold for a single or double shot - what constitutes that? How many seconds do you press and hold for each? Thanks!
Great review! Is it possible to get just hot water by pressing the button and not having a capsule inside?
Good, straightforward and informative review
Very good information!!
Glad it was helpful!
Great vid!
Thanks!
Hi Erin, hello from Australia! Loved the review! Thank you for putting in the time and effort!
This looks like a great tiny espresso coffee machine. 1 year later - do you have a long term use review/feedback on the machine? :)
Thank you so much for the compliment. I’m glad the video helped. Yes I still have this machine and use it about twice daily. It’s a great little workhorse and I can definitely still recommend it.
@@ErinLawrenceTV Awesome, thanks for getting back to me! I will give this a try then!! :) cheers!
hi! does this machine only brew espresso with both buttons? or does the tiny cup brew espresso and the big cup brew black coffee?
I got one today. Comparing to the old one, Essenza is really small and cute xxxx.
Great!
How does it result in comparison with the wacaco. I’m confused 😕
I bought it after your review👌🏽
You like it?
@@ErinLawrenceTV love it it's what I needed👍 easy to work with and makes good coffee
Try also freddo cappuccino (the Greek version)
The manual pump is intriguing
It works great actually... especially for travel. It's just nice to have the automation too. (I'm lazy like that)
Thank you for the video, you have a nice voice and attractive way of speaking, you should be on tv
Thanx again
Thank you! 😃
Order In!
I'd love to hear if you like it!
i bought one, and it's useful
Great to hear!
How's the temperature in Celsius?
how in the world do you get it to heat up the water?
Thanks Erin.
You are so welcome!
Thank you 👍
You bet!
How to adjust double size?
Thanks for the text of the video.
You're welcome
Adjust the water temperature in a capsule system can screw up your coffee completely... That is why they are not adjustable...
Does it come out very hot and can you use milk instead of water in the tank
Yes, it's good and hot. No you can't put milk in the tank.
What pods do you use to get a 5 oz espresso coffee? I'd like a slightly longer espresso but I don't want it watery :)
I just use the regualr Original Pods. I make a double shot each morning and it's perfect with just one pod.
@@ErinLawrenceTV to make a double espresso i think you need 2 pods
Cool
I have the Nespresso Expert made by Breville. It has five temperatures and four sizes including Americanco and a separate water spout. Not too big.
Good tip!
Hello! How do you customize the amount of coffee the Essenza Mini pours?
Did you watch the video ? 🧐
@@ErinLawrenceTVI am not the person who asked the original question, but I have watched the video and am still unsure of what to do exactly. I am going to watch it again a few times. Maybe that will help.
Ok I watched again and the thing that confuses me is the single shot for the small and double shot for the large. I understood that the machine uses all of the coffee in the pod and just adds more water for the large, so therefore the large size would be a weaker coffee. Can you possibly clarify what you mean. Sorry - new to coffee machines
thanx for review, i thought delonghi did quit in business
Did they??
@@ErinLawrenceTV wel, i haven's seen there products for 4 years here in the Netherlands
Great review! Can I make a regular 230ml cup of coffee (that tastes good 😁)
What pod size does it use?
The regular/original ones.
Lol, they are not recycled when you send them back. They have been caught throwing them in landfill
That's not good.
excuse me but you looking beautiful
Iam a bit of a coffee snob lol
