    This is medial winging. Note:
    1. The person's right shoulder blade is more medially displaced (i.e. shifted towards center/spine) than the left "normal" scapula;
    2. Winging becomes MORE prominent as person is as asked to move the arm forward (shoulder flexion); and
    3. Winging is LESS prominent on raising the arm to the sides (shoulder abduction).
    In comparison, lateral winging will present with:
    1. Shoulder blade being more laterally displaced (i.e. shifted away from center/spine) than the "normal" scapula;
    2. Winging becomes MORE prominent when raising the arm to the sides (shoulder abduction);
    3. Winging becomes LESS prominent on moving the arm forward (shoulder flexion) or overhead.

    For contexts
    Scapula winging is on the left person , as you can see his right scapula sticking out, where your scapula supposed to be not to expose ( the wing scapula sticking out )

    Yo antes lo tenía, lo que hice para solucionarlo fue empezar el gimnasio y aumentar la masa muscular de la espalda. La espalda se vuelve más rigida y la escapula deja de moverse así

    Mine started after I had a cyst removed from my neck. I can’t raise my arm up all the way. I quit yoga because I got tired of my left arm having to do most of the work in the downward positions, planks, downward dog, etc. made keeping up with the classes almost unbearable.

      @@superlol59 I’m still pretty much the same. I recently started going to a place where they do computer assisted resistance training. Looks and functions like weight machines at a regular gym but the machine also keeps the “weight “ at a certain level and then it will let you increase as you get stronger. They have a few other types of equipment there as well. It’s mostly middle age to older people who go there. I hope this helps build up my strength and maybe help reign in my winged scapula. Thank you for asking.

    Is this medial or lateral

    • @FinalCurse
      @FinalCurse 7 місяців тому

      I think this persons scapula is pulled towards the middle of the spine and also towards the nek. which means the serratus muscle isn't working effectively enough to create balance. I wouldn't say its medial winging. but its definitely not lateral. ''its just winging''

      Try single arm dumbbell chest presses on the floor with your chin tucked in a neutral position, over extend your arm as far as you can at the end of the movement- this will engage and strengthen your serratus anterior which is the cause of scapula winging.
      Do this 2-3 time per week aiming for 8-12 reps. Track your progress and make sure to progressive overload with hypertrophy.
      You should see a noticeable difference within a month. Also, be mindful this can take some time to unravel years of dysfunction, so be patient, consistent and you will see change.
