Hi guys! There is a lot to talk about in this video but firstly I would like to address what happened in my state, Kentucky, over the weekend. The western part of the state was hit hard by a very large tornado that caused extreme destruction and sadly the loss of many lives. I have added a link to the relief fund at the top of the description and I plan to donate as much as I can to help people recover from this tragedy. Im sure any bit will help and as soon as I can learn more about other ways to contribute I plan on doing what I can! Thank you for taking the time to click the link and for keeping those impacted in your thoughts. Secondly, and much less importantly, we do have a new background that is a work in progress! The lighting in this video, as well as the video quality, is pretty terrible but I am working on it! Thank you for your patience! Love ya💖
Thank god u are ok!!!! I live in Alabama and have been waiting on you to post something. It’s completely devastating the wreckage left behind from the nadders.
I remember the one time I went into a Neiman Marcus as a teen (so 25 years ago) and I saw a basic black t-shirt for $50 and I commented on how crazy that was out loud and how I had just gotten one for like $8 Target. The look I got from the sales lady. Lol I'm pretty sure she called me a peasant in her head. Lol
my daughter and I walked through the N M in San Francisco I found a ‘nice’ shirt that was close to $100, looked suspiciously familiar to my $20.00 one from Sizes Unlimited/Layne Bryant store It HAD to have been sewn with gold thread though, Right??
technically, from a legal standpoint, they're not selling the samples. the 'not for sale' on the bottle means you're not permitted to sell it *individually*--in the same way that most sodas that come in a 12-pack and most single-serve chip multi-packs say 'not for sale'. that simply means you can't sell them one by one! it's to keep stores and companies and (in the case of single-serve chips and packs of sodas) baseball stands from getting things at warehouse sample price and marking them up super high. TECHNICALLY what you've paid for here is a selection of samples--which you then are not permitted to turn around and resell, even though those candles are $35 a pop. EDIT: also--as someone from arkansas who was a ten minute drive away from where one of the tornadoes touched down, i am SO glad to see you're okay, and my roommate and i were both incredibly touched that you posted the tornado donation link for your state. i hope everyone you care for is safe 💖
It also has to do with the labels. They have to list the ingredients on cosmetic products. This is usually done on the label. This type of advent calendar has the ingredients for each product listed on the box or on a separate sheet tucked into the box since the products are too small for proper labels. By stating “not for sale”, if anyone has an allergic reaction because there’s no proper list of ingredients, it reduces liability.
If I remember correctly, the "not for sale" marking is simply a shaming tactic. It has no legal basis. It basically boils down to: would you rather buy an item that looks legitimate vs an item that has "not for sale" written on it? It's meant to prevent retailers from buying and selling cheaper products instead of buying a higher priced item from the wholesaler.
I think you have this backwards. The "Sample - not for sale" refers to an agreement between the manufacturer and the retailer. The manufacturer provided the samples free of charge to the retailer and clearly indicated that they are not for sale. Once you, the consumer, receive the sample, by whatever means, you are free to do with it as you wish. The consumer is not a retailer and can sell the samples if they wish to do so. It's the retailer that should not be selling something clearly marked by the manufacturer as not for sale. What you were referring to in your example of buying items in packs (pop, chips, etc) is "Not for individual sale". Those are two completely different things.
When this whole Advent Season is over (and I am NOT rushing it because I love watching these videos!) you should do an ideal advent calendar for like a mid-level pricepoint. What you wish these advent calendars would look like.
If I did all the Advent calendars like Alex, my analytical side would keep a spreadsheet of what products were in them and how many of each. There have been a lot of repeats, like many of the mascaras and Sunday Riley lactic acids (which is a great product LOL).
Happy to see you upload today, I commented on your last video to check on you and your family... This advent calendar was 💩 and they should be ashamed of themselves... I'm sure if someone tried to sue them, they would just say that you are paying for the advent calendar empty. They are giving you the products inside 🙄 l love your videos and can't wait for the next one...
I literally spent about 3 hours looking up every single product to find you prices to get an estimated "value" for this box of basically free samples you would get with purchases and... wow. My range came out to $786.13 - $895.84! (some items I couldn't tell what size you got so I estimated between the two most likely) and overall the biggest contender was the 111skin eye cream worth $150 in the size you got! Diamond powder is in the ingredients list! I will literally send you my google doc (if wanted or needed) with references from where I got prices and my crazy math is everywhere and very hard to follow but yeah holy cow! Still annoying that this "value" came from essentially free items, but yeah, I had to know the overall value of this mystery calendar lol.
I'm so happy you did this! I knew the actual "value" for the box had to be WAY over $300 after seeing the brands. It's crazy expensive for samples but if you buy luxury products already and want to test some different ones, this could actually be a great value.
@@cheyennewilliams5417 I totally agree, I personally do enjoy a good stash of samples when experimenting with my weird skin but when she led off with saying it was an advent calendar full of only deluxe samples I was so surprised. That expensive eye cream would definitely last longer than most other products here and makes up half the $ spent on the box which is nice at least but $300 is so wild I could almost taste her initial disappointment lol. Overall tho good value just tough to use all of those things unless you’re super adventurous and love a challenge. That scrunchie tho really got me in the end holy cow
@@shade247 that's the price for what she has in the calendar (sample sizes). I used the full size prices and cut those down with the product size of the full size vs sample size to get the sample size prices. Very insane. Ex: the 111skin eye cream I mentioned above is $300 for the full size (0.5oz) and she got 0.25oz so $150 worth of cream!
Not for sale means they can’t sell them out of a kit (advent calendar, subscription boxes, or even at Walmart when they do a package of mascara with free eyeliner) they mark them because the business isn’t allowed to individually sale them. For example, Neiman Marcus couldn’t open this calendar and price them all separately and set them out for sale. It’s literally a notice for the company and not consumers. Law says items have to have mandated labeling on individual packages, so when made for a kit like this they can skip that process.
Thanks for telling everyone. I was coming down here to say this exact same thing. If you look closely at most of the items in regular subscription boxes they also have that label.
It also protects against people trying to return the individual pieces of the set for cash value. We had a lot of that around the holidays when I worked in retail.
Out of curiosity, I googled the price of the Guerlain Orchidée Impériale. 1.7 ounces is $480 USD. So, if the sample is .33, you have around $96 worth of cream. Yikes!! As Alexandria has mentioned before, too bad .33 oz will give you little to no benefit since you’ll run out before you get any results. 🤦🏻♀️ Edit: Full size Baccarat Rouge 540 candle is $110….so, $35? Double yikes!
Thanks for looking up the skin cream, I knew at least one of those things was going to be an absurd price per ounce and I suspected it would be that cream.
Yes, as you say, it works out monetary value wise (although how they justify that price poi t is beyond me, does it contain actual magic?) the problem is that the amount in the sample is so smaller is little intrinsic value as there's not really enough to see any results...this is the problem with all these tiny samples in calendars. Deluxe samples are supposed to be a little larger, but some of those looked like 1 or maybe 2 uses. Comes to something when the candles are the most useful thing in a *beauty* calendar. But not everyone likes or can use candles, and they also make sure you can't give the candles as a Xmas gift by plastering "not for sale" on everything too, which is bs. Eta: also, is there even any monetary value assigned to a sample that is usually a free extra given with a purchase, or sometimes even just a sample you can request in store?
In case anyone cares, an emulsion is just a mixture of two or more substances, typically liquid, that don't fully blend together (like water and alcohol) and that also don't completely separate (like oil and water). It's kinda like little bubbles of one liquid suspended in another liquid. I just graduated with a chemistry degree haha
I was looking for your commebt cause i know what emulsion is but no. 1 english is not my mothertongue and describing science have never been my strongsuit in a foreign language and no. 2 the last time i did chemistry was 10th grade 3 years ago
Thanks for explaining! I wish the company explained what the 2 liquids were. Simply saying it is an emulsion explains nothing. What's next, marketing for homogeneous mixtures?
In our neck of the woods, we call the store Needless Markup. These are expensive brands, and if you compare the price per ounce with the full size, I’m pretty sure in theory you came out ahead. But for $300, I’d rather just go and buy a couple of the products of my choosing at full size.
As someone who’s allergic to pretty much everything I look at, I’m convinced your superpower is being able to rub any product into your skin and it still stays rosy and supple!
I went on Neiman Marcus and looked up the day 1 product "Tom Ford Serum Concentrate". The "normal sized" bottle is only 0.68 oz. and costs $350!!!! WHY?! (Also i did the math for the sample: the bottle she got was 0.17oz - which (proportionally would cost $87.50 if you took the normal price)
My guess is that the “not for sale” print means that the item isn’t legally salable as-is because it doesn’t have a UPC/barcode. If the “not for sale” item gets packaged in a box (or in this case, an advent calendar) that has a UPC/barcode, it becomes salable.(edit: it could also be related to the product ingredients not being printed on the packaging)
I roughly calculated the value based on the full size vs the amount you received and it came out to a little over $700. The 111skin product alone was worth $150! Someone has the last candle listed on Poshmark for $75 too.
just because someone is charging $75 for a tiny candle, doesn't make it worth $75 in my opinion. none of these items are worth anything to me. it's crazy - for $300 plus shipping I could get two luxury facials, or a professional microneedling treatment, that would actually do something for my skin instead of this free sample calendar. it only has value if it does something for you, or has worth on it's own. when people buy skincare, you need enough of it to really make a difference. 0.1 ounces isn't enough - it's pointless. here's an example: if I cut a $32,000 car into 10 pieces, then I told you "i'll sell you an item that has a $3200 value for only $2000" and you think, "oh, wow! I'm getting a great deal!" then you get it and realize it's a 1/10 of a car broken into pieces - that doesn't actually have value. you would need the other 9/10 of the car for it to have even a fraction of it's original value. so although I appreciate your opinion, I guess I just respectfully disagree. no hate at all, but these tiny samples are worthless since you can't use them enough to see any benefit, the makeup shades are not for most people, and the candles, scrunchie, ect are massive overpriced. not worth $300 at all. I also just got a free mini YSL lipstick from Sephora this week, and I got a "$100 value" free Barbara Sturm skincare sample as well. I spent a little over $200 and since I have their rewards program, they gave me those items for free. I didn't even have to use my points. I'm just saying - no one should be paying $300 for this.
@@effinyu9554 mmm there are things that help ur skin the problem is the market is filled with crap u don't need like they are literally tricking u for example essential oils/plant extracts is just code for fragrance so when they say it's fragrance free they are lying
Someone might’ve said already but I think the “not for sale” just means that the individual product isn’t packaged for resale. So it doesn’t have the appropriate info on the packaging. Like for food samples they don’t have the nutritional info on them but it’s illegal to sell food without that so they put “not for sale” on the package to get around it
Nope after working with Shiseido,Elizabeth Arden,Clarins,Lancôme,Clinique and many more. These not for sale products are either given out for free or gifts with purchase( that are not sold),or are samples.
Exactly what I was thinking too, Think this whole Series this year was very very sad 😉💭 of the companies but the Chanel No. 5 took the gallon of eggnogg n spilt it on my ChanelNo. 5 Wardrobe that I only Can dream of ever having 😳💭 myself 😃🤣😂❣️❣️
I'm so nervous for the higher end calendars after this and with the chanel controversy. It's such a bummer these companies don't put more care into advent calendars. This is supposed to lead up to happy fun days. I hope one gives you your value
In fact I did the smart choice. Firstly I never knew about the existance of beauty advent calendars until a couple of years ago. What I was familiar with though is the classic chocolate advent calendar. So I spent literally 50 cents on my favpurite bar of chocolate and broke it into 24 pieces. It's cheaper and more worth it and even more exciting knowing I now get to eat a chocolate a day.
These calendars are made for the rich who don't even notice $300, people like Alexandria who unbox on the internet, and people who pretend to be rich so they can flaunt it. The pricepoint really only deters people who weren't likely to buy it anyway. It's a brilliant way for companies to make essentially pure profit. I'm not encouraging the practice (it's super scammy), but they do it because it's very profitable and people continue to buy these products year after year, despite the lack of value.
@@clhs1 these companies are getting away with it because people are buying them. It’s really deplorable behavior. Not on the consumer, I’ve had to restrain myself so much. I believe Sephora did this on purpose, I think they are trying to be the worst. I hope this trend goes away next year, but I doubt it.
Whenever you say De De Peau I think of the cartoon skunk Pepe Le Pew. Makes me laugh every time. I remember my father and brothers watching that and the Road Runner every Saturday morning. I think these fancy products should say how to pronounce them. That is doubtful because they don't even tell you what it is or does. I'm still rewatching your advents because they are the best! 💜💜
@@sumgolfer41 I got mine from Chewy. I copied this from their site - Best Friends by Sheri The Original Calming Shag Fur Donut Cuddler Cat & Dog Bed. The bottom layer section can get flat pretty quick, but I put a pillow in the bottom zipper part and it works great now!
Your advent calendar series is really entertaining. Also, it confirms to me that I should wait until after Christmas to get any advent calendars when they are 75% off or more. These brands are cheeky with samples for $300!
As soon as you pulled that last candle out of its box, I immediately looked at my boyfriend and told him, “that’s the Harrods candle”. Sure enough, you got that candle in the Harrods advent calendar you featured last year. (Also pretty sure that’s the one that had the three pack of the scrunchies too).
Neiman Marcus or as we call it " Needless MarkUps" is a high-end department store. I'm from Dallas and its been around here before I was born. I am glad to hear you are safe. My boyfriend headed to Kentucky to help aid and we loaded his vehicle up with dozens of things to help with food, toys for the children, lots of skincare and etc.
These brands have $200+ items on the low end. I weirdly enough think this is actually worth it. My favorite part is your pronunciation of the brands. It made me smile!
First of all, as a UK resident who has only seen tornadoes in The Wizard of Oz and Twister, I’m so relieved that you were not affected by the tragedy. Regarding this advent calendar, it really was a very expensive box of samples. I did shake my head several times. Yet, it is still far far better than the Chanel advent calendar. Everyone is talking about how bad the contents are. I really hope you didn’t buy that one. Because you will cry when you see the contents. Stay safe sweet girl.
Honestly it isn't...too? Bad? if U are Used to it. i grew UP in TN in the town where one of them hit- it hit ft Campbell ky bt ft Campbell is actually in TN. @@boop6169 I think some people just took the opportunity to make a big deal out of it and claim that it “never happens”. I laughed. I live in GA and it’s like when people say we don’t get snow.
This weekend was extremely uncommon even for the Midwest. We had a storm system that brought tornadoes in (I believe) 7 states. This is super rare, especially in December. Thankfully my town was also unaffected. It is so nice to see a UA-camr bring awareness to the tragedy over the weekend, and I am also glad she was unharmed! Tornadoes are fairly common where I have grown up and I am still terrified of them. They never get easier to deal with. The devastation, the aftermath, the deaths... You may get "used" to the weather, but you don't get used to the grief. It's weird to me that most places don't experience tornadoes, but im sure there's extreme weather or natural disasters that the UK experiences that I never have here!
@@jesskim2119 it was Uncommon with the # of storms at once bt in reference to the one that affected ALexandria in My... Not reaLLy. i LiVed near ft Campbell for oVer 10 yrs. I’m from Kentucky too and my area was affected but not near as bad as some counties. My prayers are with those who lost their lives and the families. Also thank you everyone who is praying and keeping KY in your thoughts 🥰 Kentucky just lost there youngest victim this morning due to injuries, she was only 2 months old 😢
I’ve been trying to avoid the news. I donate blood tomorrow and I hope everyone else who can donate blood get out and do it. It really has me upset. I was born in kentucky but now I live right inside tennessee. My granny hid in her basement and I could barely sleep thinking about her up there. She’s ok but I know too many people out there aren’t.
That little girl who they strapped to her car seat? Oh no! 🥺. I have family and friends all through the state and fortunately, my people were spared, but so many more were impacted. I am doing several donations already through work, church, and friends who live in those areas.
The not for sale just means they are items to be used in the advent calendar and not to be sold separately. It's like when you get items in a multipack that say not to be sold separately. But this calendar just was not worth the money for me! Love you girl! 💖
I am so very sorry for all the lives lost and the many who were negatively impacted by the tornado…. They are all in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you so much for another wonderful video!!! I’m having so much fun watching!!!!!
Oh my goodness my husband discovered Neiman Marcus years ago and they wrap all of your presents for you no charge they shouldn’t charge it’s too expensive to shop there in the first place but I could not get him to stop going there because they would wrap the presents for him. I got some pretty nice gifts those few years too.
So the "not for sale" basically is the equivalent of them saying "not for individual sale" on candy bars that come in a pack. It just means it's not being sold on its own outside of the advent calendar so that if someone was to try and return it to a store they wouldn't get any money for it because its very clear that they did not actually purchase the product on its own. I work at ulta and you can technically still make returns on products we sell in store that you don't have any receipt for.. this would make that impossible because we would be able to see on the bottle that it was definitely not purchased there and we can therefore not give them money for a return of it.
Usually "not for sell" means not for sell as an individual product. "Not for sell" items are very commonly sold as a part of a bundle or inside a package, so it's probably not illegal, just annoying af.
Sale not sell. Included as extra items as part of a bundle is one thing but they are SELLING these "not for sale/resale" items as the entirety of a calendar. These aren't add on items they ARE the items being sold.
yes, you can find "not for sell" on weird things like popsicles inside the package. It is to try to prevent you from buying a large box of something and selling the individual items inside at a mark up.
@@NotMykl actually what they are selling is an advent calendar not the items in the advent calender. you are buying the box, the stuff in the box is free.
I love how you have decorated your room!!!! I think it looks wonderful, and having Ren in the background just makes it perfect. This advent calendar is a crime in progress, and as think any store that does this should be fined for each one they sell. Thank you so much for opening our eyes to their thievery, in such a fun and entertaining way!!!!💜💜
Alexandria, first I'm glad you're safe and sound and I'm sorry to hear about what has happened in Kentucky. On a happier note I wanted to say thank you for these 25 days of advent calendars, I look forward to every single one you post! Stay safe!
I'm from Western Kentucky and luckily we ended up with no damage. A farm was destroyed just 5 miles from us. There is SO much destruction and it is so sad. It is amazing to see communities come together and support each other though.
When samples say not for resale it means that the department store cannot sell it for resale, it doesnt matter who then gets in in a gift with purchase. As for the advent calendar Neiman Marcus more than likely got permission to put together this advent calendar and was able to use these deluxe samples, which are pricey.
I started watching this before realizing it's from last year. Still worth a watch. Other beauty UA-camrs aren't going to tell you about how much cream you're going to need for your haunch.
My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this awful tragedy. Sending my love to the people of Kentucky from Scotland 🏴💖 Alex, please tell me you've seen the Chanel calendar! It's the worst one I've ever seen, and yes, that's including the Sephora one. Omg it's awful. I'd love to see you do a reaction video of an unboxing Unless you've bought it?! I hope not 🤞🏻
God bless Scotland !! Yes I hope Kentucky gets the proper help & care to get back on their feet...Im going to look for a site on Google to donate some money & my niece is a great nurse , she may go to Kentucky if shes needed there. She was in Florida when they had their horrible damage & people hurt & lives were lost..😢🖤 anyways, I can't believe the box!! Not for sale ? Well I don't get it thats a high end store!! They can certainly afford to put good items in that box!!
I think what they really mean is “not for individual sale”. You see that on larger packages of individually packed snacks or chips or bars. I can see that here, that these are not for sale on their own; they are part of a larger set of items. I use several items already from this box. Getting a fewer smaller sizes of them all at once would save me money and let me try some new things. I hope these boxes don’t upset you too badly, Alexandria. We enjoy the openings to see what is in the calendars but as the month goes on you seem to be liking these less and less. I don’t know what else to expect in these boxes but squeezy tubes and little pots.
I hope you and your family and friends are doing ok after last weeks storms. I'm just a few miles south of where everything started forming here in Arkansas, and it was absolutely horrifying to see all the damage that came from it.
Needless Markups. (And that is the name a former employee called it.) Nothing like seeing $300+ dresses on a Z rack so tight that the beading and sequins were getting pulled off. I was disgusted as a teenager.
Side note: A great idea of ways to get rid of/go through all the smaller and deluxe items, as well as help those affected by the tornado, would be to donate items. I know makeup, hair and skin care don't seem like necessary, but hygiene items and others that make you feel anything is "normal". Laundry items are also not thought of but there's so much that needs cleaned.💙🌻
Really loving this more homey feel of a background. Idk why but it's very refreshing to see you in a different background. Regardless, love your content
Just glad that you’re safe and you’re right about those samples at some point they were selling them on Amazon and a lot of people were upset they were like no there’s a sample and not for sale I agree 100%.
Watching your videos makes me smarter! I literally learn so much from your videos with all the different things you look up online! Lol. I love it so much! 😍
I am so sad about the tornadoes the other evening. I grew up in Oklahoma and learned from an early age that tornadoes are a terrible thing. The loss of lives is so sad and I am so glad you are going to help any way you can. I love your new background. Especially the little boy fur baby on the sofa. Your beautiful no matter the lighting. P.S love the curtains , they are much better than Lisa frank folders and a dress. lol
I do notice that and a few of my subscription boxes that they do have sample sizes that say not for resale and it confuses me so much how they can include that as a product
I’m from Central Kentucky originally and I’ve been seeing friends posts about family members who were impacted. I was worried sick about all my family still back in Kentucky. I’m grateful my family is okay but heartbroken that so many others are going through literal hell right now. Thank you for doing this and doing everything you can to assist. 💜
Perricone MD is gold! I’m telling you, I am almost 50 yrs old and it is a magical cream, the cold plasma face and the neck cream.. the best, as well as the Sunday Riley. Great video as usual!
Why am I so obsessed with watching you open these money mishaps of a disguise of an Advent Calendar? I know why... Im broke and enjoy it! Thanks for taking one for the team and buying these so we dont! 🤣 love watching you're videos❤
I’m watching this while sitting in my candle lit (cold) room because the power is out and a nasty storm is raging outside. Thank you for making my night a little less gloomy.
😂 The chaos at the beginning getting the calendar set up on the little table!! So relatable to my daily life! And Wren’s face!! Fantastic … you are my spirt animal Alexandria!! 👏👏😁
I'm not saying it's worth $300 (because it's not) but a good thing about this one is that a lot of the products look really nice to display after you use it/if you don't want to use it.
I'm so sorry about what happened in your state that's terrible this time of year for the families and the people who passed away if I have anything leftover I can give I will love your videos and so glad your ok 🙏
Hey Alex when I read about the $800 Chanel Advent Calendar and the stickers I immediately thought of you.☺️ I've purchased some Advent Calendars this year (You inspired me) and for the items I don't want I have created holiday stockings for my friends who I know would love the items. And I will definitely be making a donation to your state.🧡
That was the first video of hers I saw. I had no idea these were even a thing and now I’m hooked. But what do you with all these different products? I would break out if I used all these little samples
Love the new look of the room! Love seeing Ren all snuggled up back there on the couch❤️ Also happy to see you weren't affected by the tornados that came through here. That night was terrifying! I had all my kids & my mother in the basement & was just praying the whole time. Thankfully we weren't hit but my heart breaks for all those that were. Such a sad time.
I dont know if you'll read this comment, but when the items say "not for sale" it means that the store (or anybody for that matter) cannot sell that small item. Within the calendar is fine but they can't be like "oh I'm just gonna sell this small eyelash conditioner for $20 on its own". Just a little FYI. Also I love your videos, super entertaining, love the energy, thanks for listening to my TEDtalk
Glad that you are safe after the tornadoes. If I wasn’t broke I’d donate to help! Also this came at a great time. Needed a good (terrible?) advent calendar
I been thinking about you and your family and was praying that you & your family are safe🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💖 Sending prayers for all who were affected by this Heartbreaking disaster 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😇🙌
Not for sale or not for resale items are labeled as such during production. So the company or retailer that receives the promotional item cannot sell the product to consumers. And so the product can be used in promotional packages like advent calenders or boxes. Or for example when it is added to another item as a free addition to the purchase of an item. It is clearly labeled to inform consumers. As well as the retailer that this item isn't meant to be sold. So in this situation anyone who isn't under contract with the company for the samples isn't legally required to follow its guidelines. Technically with an advent calendars your not purchasing the items. Instead you are purchasing a calendar. To count down days. With a "gift" in each day. You have no idea what's in it. So you can't claim to have purchased it. And as such it is now a promotional item. And technically gifts. Which means any item labeled not for sale or resale. Would fit within the guidelines. Which is why most calendars don't have an option to buy the individual items on the website or in-store. Like the regular full size items. I hope I explained that in a way you can understand. I've heard it said in a lot of your videos "how is this legal" this is a good example of what they are intended for. Which is why you see it in every calendar...
Really needed this right now! Been having such a rough time today and cannot for the love of god fall asleep, so this is perfect to calm me down before bed since i’ve been so stressed❤️❤️
I took three years of French and have even been to France, but I still had no idea how to prounounce Chantecaille until I went into a Macy’s to see if they had a perfume I’d heard about. The saleswoman was so snotty when I tried to prounounce it and then said, “It’s prounounced ‘Shan-tuh-k-eye.” Geeze - way to make a sale, lady!
The not for sale means not for individual sale outside of the brand or calendar . Like if you saw those products at some vendor you know they’re not supposed to sell it
Hey Alexandria! A lot of times there is a "not for sale" listed on the back of products in a set or advent calendar for a different reason. This is to prevent someone from buying the advent calendar, and then attempting to return all of the items separately at physical stores for a profit. Hope this helps!
Hey babe been thinking about you HARD because of the terrible awful things that just happened in Kentucky where you are…I hope you, your family, your friends, your loved ones, and just everyone you know are okay! I’m just about to watch your new vid and I want to be able to watch it with 100% of my attention! But I had to just come comment this first, you might mention everything going on in this video maybe? It’s the first thing that kinda pops up in your description I think it’s relief aid for the victims. We love you beautiful girl! Sending prayers to all of those affected by the tornadoes. So much Love ❤️
Love ya💖
🙏🙏🙏
Thank god u are ok!!!! I live in Alabama and have been waiting on you to post something. It’s completely devastating the wreckage left behind from the nadders.
I heard about this. So scary. Glad you are okay ❤️
Neiman Marcus should be sued! That calendar is a joke. Thinking of everyone in Kentucky, it is so devastating. Love and prayers ❤
Thank you for linking to this fund!
I think this calendar is a good example of why Neiman Marcus is referred to as “Needless Markup”.
I had never heard that until I started reading the comments! lol
I walked in there once, looked at the price of a shirt, and walked right back out.
Lol
🤣 Yep that’s what we call them and avoid them like the plague.
my daughter and I walked through the N M in San Francisco
I found a ‘nice’ shirt that was close to $100, looked suspiciously familiar to my $20.00 one from Sizes Unlimited/Layne Bryant store
It HAD to have been sewn with gold thread though, Right??
technically, from a legal standpoint, they're not selling the samples. the 'not for sale' on the bottle means you're not permitted to sell it *individually*--in the same way that most sodas that come in a 12-pack and most single-serve chip multi-packs say 'not for sale'. that simply means you can't sell them one by one! it's to keep stores and companies and (in the case of single-serve chips and packs of sodas) baseball stands from getting things at warehouse sample price and marking them up super high. TECHNICALLY what you've paid for here is a selection of samples--which you then are not permitted to turn around and resell, even though those candles are $35 a pop.
EDIT: also--as someone from arkansas who was a ten minute drive away from where one of the tornadoes touched down, i am SO glad to see you're okay, and my roommate and i were both incredibly touched that you posted the tornado donation link for your state. i hope everyone you care for is safe 💖
exactly. and some items look like they available for retail so people cannot return part of the advent with a not for sale label
Im also from Arkansas (Fayetteville) and was thinking the same thing! I was so worried when i saw all the destruction left behind!
I agree that would be great
Love this idea! I envision a cross between TJMaxx and Etsy❤️😎
@@danielllleX I believe will be great… And definitely no deluxe samples involved 🤣🤣🤣
Would that be for regular sized items or these puny sample sizes? If for the sample sizes that’s INSANE and ridiculous
You are a gem for doing all this work!
Thanks for clarifying. Gonna have us all confused and mad.
Thanks for telling everyone. I was coming down here to say this exact same thing. If you look closely at most of the items in regular subscription boxes they also have that label.
Thank you for clarifying! I think more people should know this!
It also protects against people trying to return the individual pieces of the set for cash value. We had a lot of that around the holidays when I worked in retail.
@@gingersnaps2428 yes, this too.
That…that hurt my feelings.
@@MilwaukeeWoman My curiosity got the best of me - 😆 You guessed right!
@@hawkeyescoffee6399 Well said - my sentiments exactly! ✨
I think of mayonnaise as the emulsion everyone knows.
Dude, a Chemistry Degree is so impressive! Congrats on graduating and thanks for explaining emulsion 😀
Well you can have an emulsion of oil and water though... Can you not explain it in more detail
In our neck of the woods, we call the store Needless Markup. These are expensive brands, and if you compare the price per ounce with the full size, I’m pretty sure in theory you came out ahead. But for $300, I’d rather just go and buy a couple of the products of my choosing at full size.
Love the needless markup comment 🤣
As someone who’s allergic to pretty much everything I look at, I’m convinced your superpower is being able to rub any product into your skin and it still stays rosy and supple!
Yup defiantly a super power im alergic to most things too
You know it's gonna be a ride when Alexandria brings up "illegal". Honestly, my guess, $300 is so expensive and most likely never worth
Alex scotch taping a $300 advent calendar to an itty bitty table is just the chaos I come here for!😂
This comment says it all. 100% correct!!!
Well it's not really worth 150.00 since like every oth t cosmetic it doesn't actually do anything to change your skin.
It's interesting how we think we've hit the worst possible advent calendar then the other companies say "Hold my egg nog," and make a worse one.
This comment represents this channel.
Why are you nervous for them…fck ‘em
@@clhs1 Alex is rich though

Your advent calendar series is really entertaining. Also, it confirms to me that I should wait until after Christmas to get any advent calendars when they are 75% off or more. These brands are cheeky with samples for $300!
It’s on sale now for $150! 😁
I love seeing your dog in the background! He's adorable and adds to the fun.

He is so cute! On his little bed and your room looks so good ! Couches and curtains 🥰
OMG STOP!!!!! I was laughing so hard I choked on some hummus! There should be a drinking game every time you say “not for sale”😂
You got GOT!!! I'm very glad you're ok.
@@NotMykl I think they could argue that what they're selling is the novelty of an advent calendar, not the actual products inside.

When samples say not for resale it means that the department store cannot sell it for resale, it doesnt matter who then gets in in a gift with purchase. Not for sale ? Well I don't get it thats a high end store!! They can certainly afford to put good items in that box!!
Again.......thank you, sincerely, for taking one for the team! We appreciate it!! 💕
LOVING the new background and of course “The Boy” 🥰🥰🥰
I hope you and your family and friends are doing ok after last weeks storms. I'm just a few miles south of where everything started forming here in Arkansas, and it was absolutely horrifying to see all the damage that came from it.
I'd love to see you open a lush advent calendar because I've always wanted to try one. You're wonderful btw 🖤
Needless Markups. (And that is the name a former employee called it.) Nothing like seeing $300+ dresses on a Z rack so tight that the beading and sequins were getting pulled off. I was disgusted as a teenager.
Kudos to your parents for raising you to have the smarts and wisdom to notice that! Good on your mama! 😁
I have family in KY and thank God they survived the storms. My prayers go out to all the families who lost loved ones!!!! 😢❤🙏
I love when Alexandria is in a salty mood. 😂
😄😄😄😄😅😅😅😆😆😆😆
OMG! THIS ONE SLAYED ME!! Alex in Rant is my favourite. NM needs to send you your money back...😄
Just glad that you’re safe and you’re right about those samples at some point they were selling them on Amazon and a lot of people were upset they were like no there’s a sample and not for sale I agree 100%.
If you like the smell of Baccarat Rouge 540, Dossier has a very good dupe perfume for $39 or $49. Dossier has almost exact dupes for many good scents.
I’m definitely getting Harrod’s advent calendar vibes from this one.
Perricone MD is gold! I’m telling you, I am almost 50 yrs old and it is a magical cream, the cold plasma face and the neck cream.. the best, as well as the Sunday Riley. Great video as usual!
Ren is just the goodest boy! 🤗 I got the same bed for my kitties and they LOVE it! So happy to see the little guy 🥰
Oh my, "The Boy" is the best background of them all!

Love your reviews. The most honest on youtube. Thank you. Would love to see a worst and best advent calendar you've bought, ever.
Are we gonna gloss over the fact they gave her freaking hand sanitizer?!? Dude.
I love the new background!! I love it! Super comfy! I also love the cute Boy in the background. He is a mood. 🥰
Totally agree with all your thoughts on this one- $300 for samples!? No thank you ma'am!
The first item alone was worth $175 as it's half the size of the full size which is worth $350 sooo yh
They are just samples, yes but from expensive af thing, as someone else said the total of everything was like $500
😂 The chaos at the beginning getting the calendar set up on the little table!!
I dont do makeup or advent calanders and yet in seriously obsessed with this series and your complete adorableness!
Oooh I'm early! I've watched 8 videos of these today to catch up. And that last video, the EMPTY BOTTLE. Had me rolling! 😆
And I will definitely be making a donation to your state.🧡
It was 1300 dollars not $800
@@MrZzToOoFlyY it was 825$
That was the first video of hers I saw.
Aw…my dog has the fur nest and loves it! ❤️ All dogs need one.
As a BTS fan, the “J hook” part made me chuckle. Also can companies stop putting SCRUNCHIES in their advent calendars!
💜
I totally love the couch in the background. Makes the whole room so comfy and cozy feeling :)
I love the new lay out!!! It looks so homely 🧡
Praying for you!
I hope tomorrow is a better day for you. Keep your head up!
Sick and been just watching your videos today. I’ve watched this video a total of three times now. Idk but this one just cracks me up.
Omg curtains! Alexandria, look at you being all adult and stuff lol 😃🤣💖 I am glad you are ok after the tornado outbreak!
Oh I do love your videos! You really make my day 💕
I took three years of French and have even been to France, but I still had no idea how to prounounce Chantecaille until I went into a Macy’s to see if they had a perfume I’d heard about.
But wouldn't they put "not for individual sale" on the items if that was the case?
Hey babe been thinking about you HARD because of the terrible awful things that just happened in Kentucky where you are…I hope you, your family, your friends, your loved ones, and just everyone you know are okay! I’m just about to watch your new vid and I want to be able to watch it with 100% of my attention! But I had to just come comment this first, you might mention everything going on in this video maybe? It’s the first thing that kinda pops up in your description I think it’s relief aid for the victims. We love you beautiful girl! Sending prayers to all of those affected by the tornadoes. So much Love ❤️
