  • 3 months ago I wasn't sure if I was going to hang on to the ThermoPro TP27 cooking alarm but I'm happy to report that we still have it. Great functionality, easy to use, great value, and excellent battery life. Other than some minor quirks mentioned in this video (beeping and plastic build), I have no problem recommending or even buying them as gifts for others. Father's Day is coming up! HINT HINT

    Nice follow up review. One thing that would be nice to see is the thermometer in action - during an actual cook. All reviews seen so far only talk about the unit and test the accuracy at high/low temps. Not one that I have seen showcases the unit throughout an actual cool and the result of the cook.

      @HuSmokin  2 роки тому +1

      Hey there. Do you mean tracking the accuracy throughout the cook alongside another unit? I can definitely log some footage of that. For what its worth, the TP27 has continued to perform well alongside my ThermoWorks Signals unit in accuracy throughout my cooks.

      A comparison with another unit would be a bonus and is an awesome idea. However, I was curious as to a review of just this unit while actually performing a cook/smoke - such as a pork shoulder or a meat of your choice.
      I went ahead and snagged this unit and it seems to be fairly accurate. One can also see how their pit fluctuates in temperature during a smoke - mine was surprising and I need to find out why.
      Also, you were spot on with how sensitive the backlit sensors are on each unit. Other than that, this is a great unit for the price when on sale. The range is amazing.
      Thanks again for the review and feedback on this unit.

    This is a must for Traegers that always run way hotter than what’s listed on the dial.

    I want to love this unit, but I will agree the biggest Con is the fact that you can not control and adjust the setting from the receiver. I have to go downstairs and outside to turn off the beeping or adjust the temp of any of the probes.

    • @HuSmokin
      @HuSmokin  3 роки тому

      Actually with my current settings, only the receiver beeps or alerts when the temperatures are hit. So I am able to turn off the beeping from the receiver at least. But I agree that the lack of ability to change the target temps is a big missed feature here!

      So much love in one post. Thank you! Also good info on the Smoke. Was looking at those. Have you thought about upgrading to the Smoke X for more range? Was looking at those for the longer range and the Billows control. Can’t justify the purchase just yet though.

      That sounds like the ideal setup and I can also attest to their good customer service too! I’ll look into the wifi gateway too thank you!

      That's dumb. My new tp826 is the opposite. The probes plug into the small one and the large one is the one that controls the settings. And the range is 1000ft

    • @HuSmokin

      Also an excellent alarm. I don’t think they have one with 4 channels yet. Once they do that might replace my TP27.

    Funny thing. I bought a small Bluetooth temp alarm with two probes for like $27 off of Amazon and it works pretty good but I have range issues. I have since bought other units in the $30 range that have their own receivers, one with 4 inputs and also 500 foot range. I don't have the temp range feature though so I know when I need to tend my fire. I was messing with the app for my original Bluetooth model and son of a gun, it had the temp range feature all this dang time! As Homer Simpson would say, "DOH!" Also I can adjust the range from the app.

    • @HuSmokin
      @HuSmokin  3 роки тому

      Haha!!! Wait so the original $27 unit had the temperature range feature too? That’s great! My Bluetooth alarms have had a pretty limited range overall, but if you don’t need a huge range then that’s great too.

      @@HuSmokin Yeah I have to position my cellphone a certain way to receive it in my room. So yeah I had that feature all this time and I didn't know it. It's that moment when you realize, "I'm a knuckle head!" LOL

    How long are the probe cables? How does the TP27 compare to the TP829 besides distance? thanks....

    • @HuSmokin
      @HuSmokin  2 роки тому

      Hey so sorry about the late response. Hopefully you got it squared, but if not the cables are just over 40 inches on the mesh cable itself. I haven't used the TP829 but it appears to be have better range, a timer, same accuracy but lacks the vibrating alert feature that the TP27 has. If you ended up learning more and actually purchased the 829 let me know. Seems like a superior product for cheaper.

      @@HuSmokin The reviews for the 829 seem to mention a problem with it shutting off after 2 hours. Besides that it seems to be better for cheaper, but I think I'll be going with the tp27. Thanks for the review!
