      @kayyywild  4 місяці тому

      Hey @Itsheeriye! I’d have to say their momos as they can come in a variety of types, but their half steamed/half fried buffalo ones were absolutely Mazaydar 🤤🤤🤤

    Newari are one of the indigenous communities but trust me Newari food is way overrated. I mean sometimes in festivals they do have great varieties of foods maybe 100+ but these ones you tried they aren't even that great, also sometimes certain food is such that it only appeals their eating habits and tendencies, and it may straight up come off as what the fuck is this gross thing. Sekuwa, Choilaa are good. Try Thakali dish in Jimbu Thakali, try very famous spots for momo like authentic Sandaar momo, Sekuwa in 'Bajeko Sekuwa'. Try Laphing and Keema Noodles around the Boudha stupa. Panipuri & Chatpatey in famous spots. Try the Samosas in TipTop sweets

      Newari dishes are authentic and made in the same way since thousands of years. So they are perfect for the palate of Newar community. It'll take some experimentations to twist their composition and balance to fit outsiders like you and foreign tourists.
      The so-called good foods you mentioned are all newly made dishes that have been experimented much more in modern times.

      Thakali set is simply a modern Nepali Thali with each items randomly borrowed from everywhere.
      Momo is mostly bad without Buff meat and that Buff meat combination was started by Newars so you can say modern momo you eat in Nepal are Newar food.
      Laphing is bad without noodles and chips.
      Keema noodles are not authentic as well as they use buff meat which weren't available in Tibet.
      All these buff influences in food are from Newars.
      Panipuri, Chatpate both came from India and Samosa from middle east via India.
      You said Newari food is overrated but couldn't recommend a single authentic non-Newari dish in your comment.

      @@aa6eheia156 Momo evolved from dumplings which can be dated all the way back to China. Buffalo meat is actually consumed in almost every subcontinent, so the Newars definitely did not invent eating buffalo, even the majority of buff meat consumed in the valley are imported from outside valley because the quantity does not meet the demands. I like Newari culture, but do you think all 100 of your items or cuisines are delicious? that would be an absurd and stupid delusion. Majority of the foods are not even that distinct from each other, some are so similar and there are just so many items revolving around just buffalo 'organs', how original. So instead of trying 100 Newari items, how about trying the 7 best signature foods that Newari people make? wouldn't that give a better impression of Newari food. So, i am just suggesting very distinct delicious popular foods in Nepal. I know a lot of foods are derived or borrowed but our people still put their own spices and ingredients making them standout even more than the original. Chaurasi Byanjana Khana is original authentic Nepali dish which even newari foods immitate, Puri Tarkari, Sel Roti , Jerry, Sukuti, Thukpaa , Ghongi of tharu community, Gundruk Chamrey, Anarasa, Sya Phaley. You yourself know that not all of Newari food is uniquely tasty, and some are difficult and weird to consume and only appeal to newari people for example Senla Mu. Which is better The Yomari? or some unheard of dried overcooked buffalo organ item that only appeals to some people? Obviously the Yomari which is original and tastier, loved by broader audience. Thats my point highlight the best foods not all of them
